Color change in single-crystal, yellow, red, purple, and colorless cubic zirconias (CZs) was investigated as a function of annealing in vacuum and air atmosphere at $800-1400^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, for development of a damascene process of plugging a precious metal paste at the elevated temperature. Coloring-element contents of the CZs were evaluated using WD-XRF, and the color change determined visually by naked eye, and using a digital camera and UV-Vis-NIR color analyzer. WD-XRF showed that all of the CZs had cubic-phase stabilizer elements and coloring elements. All CZs that underwent vacuum annealing exhibited a slight color change at $<900^{\circ}C$, while their colors began to change to black at $1100^{\circ}C$, and became opaque black at $1400^{\circ}C$. After air annealing, there was almost no color change up to $1400^{\circ}C$. Since red and purple CZs showed greater color difference (CD) values than the others, the degree of CD is likely to depend on the original color of the CZ due to the different stabilities of their coloring elements during annealing. Based on our results, it is suggested that annealing in air at $<900^{\circ}C$ is advantageous, and assorted colored CZs can be used for precious metal damascene.

Purpose When a surgeon examines the morphology of skull of patient, locations of craniometric landmarks of 3D computed tomography(CT) volume are one of the most important information for surgical purpose. The locations of craniometric landmarks can be found manually by surgeon from the 3D rendered volume or 2D sagittal, axial, and coronal slices which are taken by CT. Since there are many landmarks on the skull, finding these manually is time-consuming, exhaustive, and occasionally inexact. These inefficiencies raise a demand for a automatic localization technique for craniometric landmark points. So in this paper, we propose a novel method through which we can automatically find these landmark points, which are useful for surgical purpose. Materials and Methods At first, we align the experimental data (CT volumes) using Frankfurt Horizontal Plane (FHP) and Mid Sagittal Plane(MSP) which are defined by 3 and 2 cranial landmark points each. The target landmark of our experiment is the anterior nasal spine. Prior to constructing a statistical cubic model which would be used for detecting the location of the landmark from a given CT volume, reference points for the anterior nasal spine were manually chosen by a surgeon from several CT volume sets. The statistical cubic model is constructed by calculating weighted intensity means of these CT sets around the reference points. By finding the location where similarity function (squared difference function) has the minimal value with this model, the location of the landmark can be found from any given CT volume. Results In this paper, we used 5 CT volumes to construct the statistical cubic model. The 20 CT volumes including the volumes, which were used to construct the model, were used for testing. The range of age of subjects is up to 2 years (24 months) old. The found points of each data are almost close to the reference point which were manually chosen by surgeon. Also it has been seen that the similarity function always has the global minimum at the detection point. Conclusion Through the experiment, we have seen the proposed method shows the outstanding performance in searching the landmark point. This algorithm would make surgeons efficiently work with morphological informations of skull. We also expect the potential of our algorithm for searching the anatomic landmarks not only cranial landmarks.

In order to form focused inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) images of a non-uniformly rotating target, rotational motion compensation(RMC) should be performed. Prominent point processing(PPP), one of the most representative RMC methods, is used to compensate nonlinear rotation motion by exploiting the phase signals of scatterers. In this paper, we propose a new RMC method based on the integrated cubic phase function(ICPF). The ICPF requires only one-dimensional(1-D) maximization to estimate the phases of multi-component signals. Simulation results using a point scatterers model in the absence of dominant scatterers validate that PPP based on ICPF can achieve well-focused ISAR images in real time.

An approximate representation of discrete functions {f$_{i,j}\mid$|i, j=-1, 0, 1, …, N+1}in two variables by a fuzzy system is described. We use the cubic B-splines as fuzzy sets for the input fuzzification and spike functions as the output fuzzy sets. The ordinal number of f$_{i,j}$ in the sorted list is taken to be the out put fuzzy set number in the (i, j) th entry of the fuzzy rule table. We show that the fuzzy system is an exact representation of the cubic spline function s(x, y)=$\sum_{N+1}^{{i,j}=-1}f_{i,j}B_i(x)B_j(y)$ and that the approximation error S(x, y)-f(x, y) is surprisingly O($h^2$) when f(x, y) is three times continuously differentiable. We prove that when f(x, y) is a gray scale image, then the fuzzy system is a smoothed representation of the image and the original image can be recovered exactly from its fuzzy system representation when it is a digitized image.e.

Traditionally, polynomials have been used to approximte functions with prescribed values at a number of points(called the knots) on a given interal on the real line. The method of splines recently developed is more flexible. It approximates a function in a piece-wise fashion, by means of a different polynomial in each subinterval. The cubic spline gas ets origins in beam theory. It possessed continuous first and second deriatives at the knots and is characterised by a minimum curvature property which es rdlated to the physical feature of minimum potential energy of the supported beam. Translated into mathematical terms, this means that between successive knots the approximation yields a third-order polynomial sith its first derivatives continuous at the knots. The minimum curvature property holds good for each subinterval as well as for the whole region of approximation This means that the integral of the square of the second derivative over the entire interval, and also over each subinterval, es to be minimized. Thus, the task of determining the spline lffers itself as a textbook problem in discrete computer programming, since the integral of ghe square of the second derivative can be obviously recognized as the criterion function whicg gas to be minimized. Starting with the initial value of the function and assuming an initial solpe of the curve, the minimum norm property of the curvature makes sequential decision of the slope at successive knots (points) feasible. It is the aim of this paper to derive the cubic spline by the methods of computer programming and show that the results which is computed the all the alues in each subinterval of the spline approximations.

The objective of this study was to develop and validate secondary models that can predict growth parameters of L. monocytogenes Scott A as a function of concentrations (0-3%) of a commercial potassium lactate (PL) and sodium diacetate (SDA) mixture, pH (5.5-7.0), and temperature (4-37DC). A total of 120 growth curves were fitted to the Baranyi primary model that directly estimates lag time (LT) and specific growth rate (SGR). The effects of the variables on L. monocytogenes Scott A growth kinetics were modeled by response surface analysis using quadratic and cubic polynomial models of the natural logarithm transformation of both LT and SGR. Model performance was evaluated with dependent data and independent data using the prediction bias ($B_f$) and accuracy factors ($A_f$) as well as the acceptable prediction zone method [percentage of relative errors (%RE)]. Comparison of predicted versus observed values of SGR indicated that the cubic model fits better than the quadratic model, particularly at 4 and $10^{\circ}C$. The $B_f$and $A_f$for independent SGR were 1.00 and 1.08 for the cubic model and 1.08 and 1.16 for the quadratic model, respectively. For cubic and quadratic models, the %REs for the independent SGR data were 92.6 and 85.7, respectively. Both quadratic and cubic polynomial models for SGR and LT provided acceptable predictions of L. monocytogenes Scott A growth in the matrix of conditions described in the present study. Model performance can be more accurately evaluated with $B_f$and $A_f$and % RE together.

Image resampling is of particular interest in digital radiology. When resampling an image to a new set of coordinate, there appears blocking artifacts and image changes. To enhance image quality, interpolation algorithms have been used. Resampling is used to increase the number of points in an image to improve its appearance for display. The process of interpolation is fitting a continuous function to the discrete points in the digital image. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the seven interpolation functions when image resampling in digital periapical images. The images were obtained by Digora, CDR and scanning of Ektaspeed plus periapical radiograms on the dry skull and human subject. The subjects were exposed to intraoral X-ray machine at 60kVp and 70 kVp with exposure time varying between 0.01 and 0.50 second. To determine which interpolation method would provide the better image, seven functions were compared; (1) nearest neighbor (2) linear (3) non-linear (4) facet model (5) cubic convolution (6) cubic spline (7) gray segment expansion. And resampled images were compared in terms of SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) and MTF(Modulation Transfer Function) coefficient value. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. The highest SNR value(75.96dB) was obtained with cubic convolution method and the lowest SNR value(72.44dB) was obtained with facet model method among seven interpolation methods. 2. There were significant differences of SNR values among CDR, Digora and film scan(P<0.05). 3. There were significant differences of SNR values between 60kVp and 70kVp in seven interpolation methods. There were significant differences of SNR values between facet model method and those of the other methods at 60kVp(P<0.05), but there were not significant differences of SNR values among seven interpolation methods at 70kVp(P>0.05). 4. There were significant differences of MTF coefficient values between linear interpolation method and the other six interpolation methods (P< 0.05). 5. The speed of computation time was the fastest with nearest -neighbor method and the slowest with non-linear method. 6. The better image was obtained with cubic convolution, cubic spline and gray segment method in ROC analysis. 7. The better sharpness of edge was obtained with gray segment expansion method among seven interpolation methods.
In the course of working on the preconditioning of $C^1$-bicubic collocation method, one has to deal with the $C^1$-bicubic splines. In this paper we are concerned with $C^1$-bicubic spline interpolant for a given function. We construct a basis for the space of $C^1$-bicubic splines for a given partition and find the $C^1$-bicubic spline interpolant for a given function defined on a set.
In this paper we present a new family of identities for parametric Euler sums which generalize a result of David Borwein et al. [2]. We then apply it to obtain a family of identities relating quadratic and cubic sums to linear sums and zeta values. Furthermore, we also evaluate several other series involving harmonic numbers and alternating harmonic numbers, and give explicit formulas.
To develop the efficient numerical optimization method for the design of an airfoil, an evaluation of various methods coupled with two-dimensional Naviev-Stokes analysis is presented. Simplex method and Hook-Jeeves method we used as direct search methods, and steepest descent method, conjugate gradient method and DFP method are used as indirect search methods and are tested to determine the search direction. To determine the moving distance, the golden section method and cubic interpolation method are tested. The finite volume method is used to discretize two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, and SIMPLEC algorithm is used for a velocity-pressure correction method. For the optimal design of two-dimensional airfoil, maximum thickness, maximum ordinate of camber line and chordwise position of maximum ordinate are chosen as design variables, and the ratio of drag coefficient to lift coefficient is selected as an objective function. From the results, it is found that conjugate gradient method and cubic interpolation method are the most efficient for the determination of search direction and the moving distance, respectively.
