  • Let $I{\in}C^{1,1}$ be a strongly indefinite functional defined on a Hilbert space H. We investigate the number of the critical points of I when I satisfies one pair of Torus-Sphere variational linking inequality. We show that I has at least two critical points when I satisfies one pair of Torus-Sphere variational linking inequality with $(P.S.)^*_c$ condition. We prove this result by use of the limit relative category and critical point theory on the manifold with boundary.

  • This paper analyzes the subsurface stress at the spherical contact using Hamilton equation, and with that data, calculates the fatigue limit under the variations of friction coefficient using fatigue theory. After rough surface being made, this paper figures out the random load generated by contacting to the rough surface, analyzes the stress of its subsurface, and calculates the fatigue limit of the rough surface using fatigue theory. The three parts of the fatigue theory are applied, which are critical plane theory, stress invariant theory and mesoscopic theory.

  • We consider a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with critical frequency, (P𝜀) : 𝜀2∆v(x) - V(x)v(x) + |v(x)|p-1v(x) = 0, x ∈ ℝN, and v(x) → 0 as |x| → +∞, for the infinite case as described by Byeon and Wang. Critical means that 0 ≤ V ∈ C(ℝN) verifies Ƶ = {V = 0} ≠ ∅. Infinite means that Ƶ = {x0} and that, grossly speaking, the potential V decays at an exponential rate as x → x0. For the semiclassical limit, 𝜀 → 0, the infinite case has a characteristic limit problem, (Pinf) : ∆u(x)-P(x)u(x) + |u(x)|p-1u(x) = 0, x ∈ Ω, with u(x) = 0 as x ∈ Ω, where Ω ⊆ ℝN is a smooth bounded strictly star-shaped region related to the potential V. We prove the existence of an infinite number of solutions for both the original and the limit problem via a Ljusternik-Schnirelman scheme for even functionals. Fixed a topological level k we show that vk,𝜀, a solution of (P𝜀), subconverges, up to a scaling, to a corresponding solution of (Pinf ), and that vk,𝜀 exponentially decays out of Ω. Finally, uniform estimates on ∂Ω for scaled solutions of (P𝜀) are obtained.

  • The integrity of the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) is affected by the neutrons bombarding the vessel wall leading to embrittlement. This irradiation-induced embrittlement leads to reduction in the fracture toughness of RPV materials. This paper presents a comparative study of typical Optimized Power Reactor (OPR)1000 reactor pressure-temperature (P-T) limit curves using the pre-2006 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) editions used in the power plant and the current ASME edition of 2010. The current ASME Code utilizes critical reference stress intensity factor based on the lower bound of static, while the Pre-2006 ASME editions are based the critical reference stress intensity factor based on the lower bound of static, dynamic and crack arrest. Model-Based Systems Engineering approach was used to evaluate ASME Code Section XI Appendix G for generating the P-T limit curves. The results obtained from this analysis indicate decrease in conservatism in P-T limit curves constructed using the current 2017 ASME code, which can potentially increase operational flexibility and plant safety. Hence it is recommended to use ASME code edition after 2006 be used in all operating nuclear power plants (NPPs) to establish P-T limit curve.

  • To guarantee the safety of rice cake production, the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points system was applied to the production process. The purpose of this study was to analyze the microbiological hazards of the manufacture of rice cakes, and establish critical limits in the process of the manufacturing rice cakes. To control the microbiological hazards, the sterilization process was set to a critical limit. The process of manufacturing rice cakes can reduce these microbiological hazards during the steaming process. A microorganism test for each specimen was conducted three times and compared with before and after steaming processes. The finished product was conducted by microbiology experiment and the validity of the steaming process was verified. The results were determined to be capable of reducing the biological element of Critical Control Point via the steaming process. Microbiology such as aerobic plate count, coliform, Escherichia coli(E. coli), Listeria monocytogenes, Enterohemorrhagic E. coli, Salmonella spp., Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium perfringens was evaluated by the experimental method of Korean Food Standards Codex. Aerobic plate count was reduced by steaming process, and no microorganism were detected. All rice cakes in the finished product were judged to be safe for both the Escherichia coli and general bacteria. In conclusion, it suggested that a HACCP plan was necessary for management standard and systematic approach in the establishment of critical limit, problem resolution, verification method, education, and records management. Based on this study, it is intended to provide a baseline for improving quality control standards and improving hygiene levels for small manufacturers.

  • We get a theorem which shows the existence of at least four $2{\pi}$-periodic weak solutions for the bifurcation problem of the Hamiltonian system with the superquadratic nonlinearity. We obtain this result by using the variational method, the critical point theory induced from the limit relative category theory.

  • Let $Lu=u_{tt}+u_{xxxx}$ and E be the complete normed space spanned by the eigenfunctions of L. We reveal the existence of six nontrivial solutions of a nonlinear suspension bridge equation $Lu+bu^+=1+{\epsilon}h(x,t)$ in E when the nonlinearity crosses three eigenvalues. It is shown by the critical point theory induced from the limit relative category of the torus with three holes and finite dimensional reduction method.

  • We give a theorem of existence of six nontrivial solutions of the nonlinear Hamiltonian system $\.{z}$ = $J(H_z(t,z))$. For the proof of the theorem we use the critical point theory induced from the limit relative category of the torus with three holes and the finite dimensional reduction method.

  • This paper presents a novel method for real-time malfunction detection of plasma etching process using EPD signal traces. First, many reference EPD signal traces are collected using monochromator and data acquisition system in normal etching processes. Critical points are defined by applying differentiation and zero-crossing method to the collected reference signal traces. Critical parameters such as intensity, slope, time, peak, overshoot, etc., determined by critical points, and frame attributes transformed signal-to symbol of reference signal traces are saved. Also, UCL(Upper Control Limit) and LCL(Lower Control Limit) are obtained by mean and standard deviation of critical parameters. Then, test EPD signal traces are collected in the actual processes, and frame attributes and critical parameters are obtained using the above mentioned method. Process malfunctions are detected in real-time by applying SPC(Statistical Process Control) method to critical parameters. the Real-time malfunction detection method presented in this paper was applied to actual processes and the results indicated that it was proved to be able to supplement disadvantages of existing quality control check inspecting or testing random-selected devices and detect process malfunctions correctly in real-time.

  • The effects of room temperature and strain aging treatment are discussed on the critical condition for the onset of growth of non-propagating cracks on 0.15% C low carbon steel, with special emphasis on the length of the critical non-propagating crack and on the crack opening displacement(COD) at the crack tip. It is found from the experimental analysis that room temperature and strain aging of a fatigue pre-cracked specimen introduced the closure of a crack tip of the pre-crack and the reduction of crack opening displacement at the wake of crack, together with an improvement in crack growth resistance of the microstructure. This may cause an increase in the endurance limit of the specimen, through the enhancement of effective stress for the onset of growth of the critical non-propagating crack.
