  • The article aims to present findings of a study which has examined the ability of elementary school mathematics teachers and of teacher-trainees in other disciplines to solve irregular challenging problems of sequences in general rather than numerical sequences only. The findings show that mathematics teachers succeed to cope with unusual assignments when the requirements of the problems presented to them are analogous to irregular problems. However, when the problems require a change in the thinking procedure in the direction of creative thinking, there is a considerable decrease in performance. Another finding shows that, although teacher-trainees succeed less in solving the presented problems, they give incorrect solutions which do indicate creative thinking. An inevitable conclusion based on the research findings is that teacher training institutions should enhance and reinforce multi-directional. branching out and creative thinking competences.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the creativity of nursing college students who should act as professional nurses in the future. In order to carry out this research, the data collected through structured questionnaires were analyzed for 209 nursing college students who were approved by the IRB of K University. The results of this study showed that the creativity and self-efficacy(r=.374, p<.001), thinking ability(r=.347, p<.001), and school environment perception(r=.246, p<.001) were found to be positively correlated. In addition, the factors influencing the creativity of nursing students were self-efficacy(${\beta}=0.249$, p=.001), thinking ability(${\beta}=0.152$, p=.043), school environment perception(${\beta}=0.188$, p=.005) and the explanatory power of these variables was 21.2%. In the future, it will be necessary to develop educational methods for creativity development of nursing college students.

  • This study was to examine the differences of behavioral characteristics between scientifically gifted students and ordinary students. The subjects were 40 scientifically gifted students (27 males and 13 females) and 38 ordinary students (21 males and 17 females). The study specifically analyzed the several characteristics including logical thinking, science process skills, creativity, earth science creativity, self-directed learning, and cognitive style. The results were as follows; First, while 94.74% of scientifically gifted students reached the formal stage, only 36.36% of ordinary students reached it in logical thinking. Second, scientifically gifted students gained higher scores than ordinary students did in science process skills (average 8.11), creativity (average 8.27), earth science creativity (average 6.73), scientific attitude (average 10.79), self-directed learning (average 21.60). Third, 70% of scientifically gifted students and 60.53% of ordinary students showed to have the characteristics of field independent thinking. These results implied that the behavioral characteristics of scientifically gifted students should be included in science gifted education for the pursuit of the essential gifted education and maximization of its efficiency.

  • Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effect of product creativity on the financial performance of new product in the food industry. In addition, the applicability of creative thinking method for the development of creative new food product is examined. Methods: In this study, OPA(Originality-Practicality Analysis) method is applied to evaluate the creativity of 32 new food products of 'H' food company in Korea. Effects of product creativity on the financial performance are analyzed using t-test and logistic regression analysis. In order to examine the applicability of SIT(Systematic Inventive Thinking) for the new product development process, each subject are classified according to five SIT tools. Results: The product group belongs to creative area(CA) shows the highest financial performance among the quadrants of OPA matrix. The products are divided into two groups whether the product can be classified by SIT tools or not. The products belonged to SIT group show higher creativity than non-SIT group. Conclusion: From the result, it can be concluded that product creativity has effect on the financial performance of the new food products, and SIT can be used as a powerful tool in developing creative new food products.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the validity of a creativity measurement tool and to discover the creativity characteristics of creative gifted students by assessing the difference in the creativity characteristics of creative gifted students, who were selected from gifted students in elementary and middle schools through the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking(TTCT), according to school level and the type of the students (gifted student in mathematics, gifted student in science). To this research purpose, creative gifted students were selected by the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking(TTCT) on 594 students, who had applied for super gifted education, from 17 gifted students institutes under the jurisdiction of Jeollabukdo office of education, Then, t-tests and multiple regression analysis were performed to analyze the creativity factors between elementary students and middle school students and between mathematics-gifted students and science-gifted students. From the research, the following results were obtained. Although TTCT is effective in distinguishing gifted students with and without creativity, correlation coefficient values between creativity factors(the correlation coefficients between 'fluency' and 'originality' and between 'fluency' and 'elaboration' were .78 and .50 respectively) suggested the possibility of low uniqueness of creativity factors. In addition, compared with elementary students, middle school students showed significantly lower fluency (circles), elaboration(picture construction, picture completion), and the abstractness of titles(picture structure). In the meantime, science-gifted students displayed significantly higher originality(picture construction), and elaboration(picture construction, picture completion, circles) than mathematics-gifted students. Therefore, continuous study is required to enhance the validity of the test for the selection of creativity gifted students. Besides, efforts should be made to find ways to enhance the creativity of gifted students and to resolve the problem of decreasing creativity with student academic level increasing.

  • This study examined the impact of variables(collaboration, convergence motive, convergence thinking) on the creativity problem solving of engineering college students. 522 students among engineering colleges in Pusan and Ulsan were sampled. For the statistical analysis, analysis of covariance structure by AMOS 18.0 was applied. Results from structural equation modeling analyses indicated that a hypothesized model produced a better fit to the data than a comparative structural model. The hypothesized model shows the following results. On the basis of the hypothesized model, collaboration effected to directly convergence motive and creative problem solving, and convergence motive effected to directly convergence thinking, convergence motive effected to directly creative problem solving, convergence thinking effected to directly creative problem solving, and collaboration effected to indirectly convergence thinking by convergence motive. Therefore this study suggested the collaboration, convergence motive and convergence thinking are significantly variables to facilitate the creative problem solving for knowledge fusion in engineering.

  • In this study, the instrument of mathematical creative problem solving ability test were considered the differences between Korean and American sixth grade students in mathematical creativity ability and mathematical thinking ability. The instrument consists of 9 items. The participants for the study were 212 Korean and 148 American students. SPSS were carried out to verify the validities and reliability. Reliabilities(Cronbach ${\alpha}$) in mathematical creativity ability is 0.9047 and in mathematical thinking ability is 0.9299 which were satisfied internal validity evaluation on the test items. Internal validity were analyzed by BIGSTEPS based on Rasch's 1-parameter item response model. The results of this study can serve as a foundation for understanding the Korean and American students differences in mathematical creativity ability and mathematical thinking ability. Especially we get the some informations on mathematical creativity ability for American's fifth grade to seventh grade students.

  • Mathematical creativity is a main topic which is studied within mathematics education. Also it is important in learning school mathematics. It can be important for mathematics teachers to view mathematical creativity as an disposition toward mathematical activity that can be fostered broadly in the general classroom environment. In this article, it is discussed that creativity-enriched mathematics instruction which includes creative problem-solving and problem-posing tasks and activities can be guided more creative approaches to school mathematics via routine problems.
