Portland cement concrete, which has higher strength and stiffness than asphalt concrete, has been widely applied on pavements. However, the brittle fracture characteristic of cement concrete restricts its application in highway pavement construction. Since the polypropylene fiber can improve the fracture toughness of cement concrete, Polypropylene Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (PFRC) is attracting more and more attention in civil engineering. In order to study the effect of polypropylene fiber on the generation and evolution process of the local deformation band in concrete, a series of three-point bending tests were performed using the new technology of the digital speckle correlation method for FRC notched beams with different volumetric contents of polypropylene fiber. The modified Double-K model was utilized for the first time to calculate the stress intensity factors of instability and crack initiation of fiber-reinforced concrete beams. The results indicate that the polypropylene fiber can enhance the fracture toughness. Based on the modified Double-K fracture theory, the maximum fracture energy of concrete with 3.2% fiber (in volume) is 47 times higher than the plain concrete. No effort of fiber content on the strength of the concrete was found. Meanwhile to balance the strength and resistant fracture toughness, concrete with 1.6% fiber is recommended to be applied in pavement construction.

Demand for new nondestructive evaluations is growing to detect tensile crack growth behavior to predict long term performance of materials and structure in aggressive environments, especially when they are in non-visible area. Acoustic emission technique is well suited to these problems and has drawn a keen interests because of its dynamic detection ability, extreme sensitivity and location of growing defects. In this study, we analysed acoustic emission signals obtained in tensile test of high strength fire resistance steel for frame structure with time frequency analysis methods. The results obtained are summaries as follows ; In the T and TN specimen consisting of ferrite and pearlite grains, most of acoustic emission events were produced near yield point, mainly due to the dislocation activities during the deformation. However, B specimen under $600^{\circ}C$ - 10min had a two peak which was attribute to the presence of martensite phase. The first peak is before yield point the second is after yield point. The sources of second acoustic emission peak were the debonding of martensite-martensite interface and the micro-cracking of brittle martensite phase. In $600^{\circ}C$-30min to $700^{\circ}C$-60min specimens, many signals were observed from area before yield point and counts were decreased after yield point.

In the aerospace industry, Cold expansion has been used the most important method that is retarded of crack initiation from fastener hole surface. Cold expansion method(CEM) is that a oversized tapered mandrel goes through the hole in order to develop a compressive residual stress as the passing of the mandrel around the hole. Therefore, because of characteristic of mandrel inserting, Residual Stress Distributions (RSD) are differently generated form Entry, Mid and Exit position of the plate. Also, it is respected that RSD are changed as distances between holes. In this paper, It is performed a FE analysis of RSD by CEM and it is respectively shown RSD in the Entry, Mid and Exit position. It is compared residual stress results form the cold expansion in these two cases: the concurrent CEM and the sequential CEM. From this research, it has been found that compressive residual stress of Entry position is lower than other positions. Also, the concurrent CE of adjacent holes leads to much higher compressive residual stress than the sequential CE. In addition, in the sequential CE case, a compressive RSD of 1 step's hole around is lower than compressive RSD of 2 step's hole around.

The flow of remote field eddy current energy is studied at nonmagnetic coaxial tubes by using both experiments and finite element calculations based on commercial software package. The results showed that remote field eddy current energy at coaxial tubes flow along over the outer surface of external tube, not through the gap between internal and external tubes. This means that the through wall transmission characteristic of remote field eddy current testing (RFECT) is still valid at tube in tube configurations and the RFECT could be potential nondestructive technique for crack detection, spacer location and gap sizing at the coaxial CANDU fuel channel tubes.
l2wt%Cr Steel has been applied on turbine bucket and nozzle partition material of power plant. Turbine bucket and nozzle get damaged by solid particle within steam, therefore they are protected by surface treatments such as ion nitriding, boriding and chrome carbide HVOF spray coating. In this study, solid particle erosion(SPE) characteristics after these surface treatments are examined at operating temperature 540$^{\circ}C$ and 590$^{\circ}C$ of fossil power plant and the mechanism of damage was studied. Erosion of 12wt%Cr steel is originated by micro cutting and that of boriding and chrome carbide HVOF spray is originated by these mechanism - repeating collision, crack initiation and propagation. As the results of SPE test at 540$^{\circ}C$ and 30$^{\circ}$ impact angle that is the most commonly occurred in power plant, Boriding had the best SPE -resistance property, Cr$_2$C$_3$-25(Ni20Cr) HVOF spayed and ion nitrided samples were also better than bare metals(l2wt%Cr Steels). At 590$^{\circ}C$ and 30$^{\circ}$ impact angle, Boriding had also the most superior characteristic and HVOF spay sample was better than bare metal.

In hot forming process, the dies in which excessive worn or crack occurs is reused after repair. Generally hot forming dies are recycled through a welding repair method. Welding repair methods are highly dependent on the skills of engineer. It causes process defects such as dimensional defects and structural defects. Recently, the metal 3D printing method has been applied to the repair of used dies. The aim of this study is to evaluate the wear characteristics of AISI H13 tool steel repaired by 3D printing method. Three kinds of wear specimens were fabricated by using 3D printing, welding, and initial material. A pin-on-disk wear test was carried out to evaluate the wear characteristics. From the result of wear test, the wear characteristics of 3D printing method was superior to that of the welded material, and was similar to that of the initial material.

The growth of GaN on the patterned substances has proven favorable to achieve thick, crack-free GaN layers. In this paper, numerical modeling of transport and reaction of species is performed to estimate the growth rate of GaN from tile reaction of TMG(trimethly-gallium) and ammonia. GaN growth rate was estimated through the model analysis including the effect of species velocity, thermal convection and chemical reaction, and thermal condition for the uniform deposition was to be presented. The effect of shape and construction of microscopic pattern was also investigated using a simulator to perform surface analysis, and a review was done on the quantitative thickness and shape in making GaN layer on the pattern. Quantitative analysis was especially performed about the shape of reactor geometry, periodicity of pattern and flow conditions which decisively affect the quality of crystal growth. It was found that the conformal deposition could be obtained with the inclination of trench ${\Theta}>125^{\circ}$. The aspect ratio was sensitive to the void formation inside trench and the void located deep in trench with increased aspect ratio.
The damage in concrete structures generally starts with microcracking and thus it is important to find and explore these microcracks in concrete in order to ensure appropriate safety and serviceability. The purpose of the present study is to identify the damage characteristics of concrete structures due to cracking by employing the acoustic emission techniques. A comprehensive experimental study has been done. The cracking damage under tensile and flexural loadings have been identified and the bond damage between steel and concrete have been also characterized. It is seen that the amplitudes and energy level of Acoustic Emission(AE) events are found to be relatively small for bond cracking damages and large for tensile cracking damages. The characteristic equations of the AE events for various cracking damages have been proposed based on the present test data. The internal microcracks are progressively developed ahead of a visible actual crack and the present study clearly exhibits these damage mechanism for various types of cracking in concrete. The present study provides useful data which can be used to identify the various types of cracking damages in concrete structures. This will allow efficient maintenance of concrete structures through monitoring of internal cracking based on acoustic emission.

In this work, an experimental research has been performed on Steel Fiber-Steel Reinforced Concrete (SFSRC)specimens subjected to four-point bending tests to evaluate the feasibility of mutual replacement of steel fibers and conventional reinforcement through studying failure modes, load-deflection curves, stiffness of characteristic points, stiffness degradation curves and damage analysis. The variables considered in this experiment included steel fiber volume percentage with and without conventional reinforcements (stirrups or steel fibers) with shear span depth ratios of S/D=2.5 and 3.5. Experimental results revealed that increasing the volume percentage of steel fiber decreased the creation and propagation of shear and bond cracks, just like shortening the stirrups spacing. Higher crack resistance and suturing ability of steel fiber can improve the stability of its bearing capacity. Both steel fibers and stirrups improved the stiffness and damage resistance of specimens where stirrups played an essential role and therefore, the influence of steel fibers was greatly weakened. Increasing S/D ratio also weakened the effect of steel fibers. An equation was derived to calculate the bending stiffness of SFSRC specimens, which was used to determine mid span deflection; the accuracy of the proposed equation was proved by comparing predicted and experimental results.
