This study was conducted in cut rose cultivation field in Goyang to evaluate pesticide exposure of farmers and the relationship between the exposure and work environment/method for cut rose farmers. Dermal exposure was assessed with patch (thin chromatography layer paper), cotton glove by body parts during mixing and spraying works in which pyrethroid, organophosphate, carbamate pesticide were used in 4 cut rose greenhouses located in Goyang province, checking characteristics of environment/working method at the same time. Body parts assessed were as follows ; glove : hand, patch : head, neck(front/back), chest, back, shoulder(right/left), upperarm(right/left), forearm(right/left), thigh(right/left), shin(right/left). Pesticides were analyzed using gas chromatography(NPD/FID) after extracting with ethyl acetate. Exposure amount differed according to pesticide type. But after standardizing with total net weight of pesticide sprayed, there were no significant difference among pesticides. There were significant difference in exposure amount among body parts(especially exposure amount of thigh, shin were more than the others), which means exposure happen not by pesticide dispersion in air but by contact with cut rose(leaf, branch) indirectly. Walking forward during spraying made farmers more exposed than waling backward, these results means contacts with leaves/branches made exposure happen in cut rose greenhouse also. As a result, pesticide exposure in cut rose greenhouse was related with contact of leaf/branch which pesticide remained in, which made exposure pattern (especially exposure amount) differ by body parts
In order to determine the possibility of artificial cultivation of Ganoderma lucidum, a study was carried out to optimize the medium composition used for bed culture. Sawdust spawn of medium composition for optimal growth was found to be the combination of 75% oak-sawdust, 10% cotton-seed meal, and 15% beet pulp. The optimal conditions for the formation of fruiting bodies were shown to be a temperature of $28-30^{\circ}C$, light intensity of 1,000-1,500 lux, and $CO_2$ concentration of 1%.
Spent mushroom substrates is composted organic material remaining after a crop of mushroom is harvested. The raw materials of mushroom substrates are same feed ingredient as corncobs, rice brown, wheat brown, cotton seeds and beet pulp. During the mushroom cultivation process, the mushroom substrates was used 15-25% by mushroom and 75-85% of mushroom substrates was remained in the SMS. Among of the spent mushroom substrates, spent mushroom substrates of pleurotus eryngii, Pleurotus ostreatus and Flammuliua velutipes is can be use the energy feedstock of animal feed. The cellulose content of spent mushroom(pleurotus eryngii) substrates containing the sawdust was high and total digestible nutrients (TDN) values was low. The spent mushroom(pleurotus eryngii) substrates fermented with cellulase and xylanase producing bacteria is may be used as an ingredient of feed in TMR for Hanwoo steer.

Assessment for operator's dermal and inhalation exposure to acetamiprid during cultivation of water melon in greenhouse was carried out. For dermal exposure measurement, whole body dosimetry (WBD) was performed as the first trial in Korea. WBD consists of cotton/polyester outer clothes and cotton inner clothes. Hand exposure was measured by washing of nitrile gloves and hands while head exposure was monitored by face/neck wipe technique. Inhalation exposure was monitored with personal air sampling pumps and IOM sampler (glass fiber filter). Analytical limit of quantitation was 2.5 ng/mL. Good reproducibility (C.V < 8.7%), linearity ($R^2$ > 0.99) and recovery (70~119%) were obtained. Field recovery of acetamiprid was 77~95%. During mixing/loading, hand exposure of acetamiprid was about 10 times ($229.7{\mu}g$) more than that of application case ($20.9{\mu}g$). During application, total dermal exposure was $1207.4{\mu}g$. Exposure of lower legs was $1132.1{\mu}g$, which is 93.8% of the total dermal exposure. Inhalation exposure during mixing/loading and application was not detected. Margin of safety (MOS) was calculated for risk assessment using male Korean average body weight (70 kg) and acceptable operator exposure level ($124{\mu}g/kg/day$) to give 140, suggesting that health risk of operator during treatment of acetamiprid for water melon in greenhouse could be safe.
This studies investigated the effect of concentrations of sodium chloride (NaCl) on occurrence and growth of fruitbody in oyster mushrooms, Pleurotus spp. Our experiments divided into two parts. When the water contents in substrate were added with sodium chloride solution in cotton waste box cultivation as a first experiment, the growth of mushroom was damaged as the concentration was increased, even though there was a little difference according to the strains. The yield in 1.0% NaCl solution was decreased to 72% compared to non-treated plot while that in 3.0% solution was only 2% of the non-treated plot. Morphological characteristics of mushrooms cultivated in substrate with the different concentration of the solution showed different results. For example, the size and thickness of pilei were not influenced by NaCl concentration, but the length of stipes and individual weight were much influenced. In plastic box cultivation filled with cotton waste, watering treatment with the different concentrations of sodium chloride solution, the second experiment, did not show any difference according to the concentration until 1.0% solution but there was a little difference according to the strains. The productivity of fruitbody started to decrease at 2.0% of the solution and the yield and quality of mushroom in 3.0% solution treatment were generally low. After the second flush, days for mushroom sprouting were generally prolonged in proportion to the solution concentration. Taken altogether, the second experiment did not show a clear effect as the case of the first experiment.
This research is aimed to investigate the cultivation method of oyster mushroom[Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq. ex Fr.) Kummer] at the non-sterilized medium with $Ca(OH)_2$ treatment. Therefore, experiments were carried out to develop non-sterilization method of medium by addition of $Ca(OH)_2$ for omission of heat sterilization progress of medium. General components, minerals and amino acid in Jiri wild type No. 1 (Pleurotus ostreatus) and production cost were analyzed. For the purpose of omission of heat sterilization progress, treatment ratio of $Ca(OH)_2$ (purity 95%) was 5%(w/w) of dry medium. Initial pH of this medium was 11 and then the pH was changed by 9 after the uniform mixing of the medium for half an hour. The various germs occurred 50% and 100% at pH 8 and pH 7 of the non-sterilized medium, respectively. Production of oyster mushroom increased by $2,030\;ton\;ha^{-1}$ when the main raw material used corn pith instead of waste cotton. The time required of mycelium culture was 30 days when hypha was cultured at the non-sterilized medium, and pinhead occurred when 2 or 3 days was passed after the time required of mycelium culture. Occurrence of pinhead was most rapid at the condition of $22{\sim}26^{\circ}C$, 65% humidity and pH $6.5{\sim}7.0$ and required of $22{\sim}28$ days at $70{\sim}80\;mm$ thickness of non-sterilized medium. Ca content in 1st harvest oyster mushroom was higher than that in 2nd harvest one, and its difference was $30.3\;mg\;kg^{-1}$. Amino acid content by stipe thickness of oyster mushroom was ranged from 411.2 to $343.9\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ both in a pileus and a stipe of 1st harvest mushroom, and from 402.4 to $498.2\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ and from 442.6 to $470.4\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ in those of 2nd harvest one, respectively. The results of the present study suggest that the non-sterilization medium by addition of $Ca(OH)_2$ is usable with the cultivation of oyster mushroom.

Bacillus amyloliquefaciens M27 was isolated from the cotton-waste compost for cultivation of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus). B. amyloliquefaciens M27 is a biocontrol agent with antagonistic activities against a wide range of fungal pathogens. The aim of this work was to evaluate the possibility of exploiting antagonistic bacteria, B. amyloliquefaciens M27, in the biological control of the cucumber powdery mildew fungus, Podosphaera fusca. In greenhouse tests, the isolate was found to be very effective to control powdery mildew on cucumber leaves showing 4.0% diseased area, whereas diseased area in the control was 80.5%. The filtrate of the isolate cultured on MH and LB media were more effective for control of the disease than those cultured on TSB, NB, and KB media. When two, five, ten, 20, 50 and 100-fold diluted culture broth of isolate on LB media were treated, disease areas were 0%, 0%, 0%, 1.3%, 3.1% and 5.0%, respectively, whereas diseased area in the control was 60.0%. The filtrate of the isolate cultured on LB media was treated to cucumber plants on July, October and December just before the outbreak of the powdery mildew occurred. When 10-fold diluted filtrate of the isolate was treated, control efficacy was 88.9~98.9% in the treated seasons. The results showed that the culture filtrate of B. amyloliquefaciens M27 was very effective to control powdery mildew of cucumber.
Analysis of genetic characteristics of Flammulina velutipes showed that strains have a range of 85% in genetic distribution diagram. According to this result, we divided these strains into five groups. In experiment of determinating the optimum media and condition in cultivating F. velutipes, we found the optimum temperature and pH range for hypha growth were $25^{\circ}C$ and 6.0 to 7.0, respectively. in addition, the best media for growth of that in plate was MCM (Mushroom Complete Media) which have a growth length from 68 to 83 mm. In vivo test, we observed that fast growth and good density of hyphae in mixture media of douglas fir sawdust, cotton seed meal and beet pulp (6:2:2 V/V). Also when we cultivated F. velutipes in this media, we harvested high yield of fruiting body.

Natural Bokbunja is used as a material of oriental medicine which it obtains from Rubus or Raspberry. Natural Bokbunja Rubus has natural odor and taste, natural color, and pharmaceutical & chemical characteristics. This experiment tested antimicrobial experiment against microbe and dye experiment against fiber using natural Bokbunja extract. Some conclusions from this characteristics experiment were obtained as follow. The result of antimicrobial experiment could know that ATCC-001(staphylococcus aureus) does not show nearly from 72hrs after cultivation test and ATCC-002(aspergillus niger) shows to propagate continuously according to passage of time. Also, the result of dye experiment could know that cotton and silk using alum mordant($Al_2(SO_4)_3{\cdot}13-14H_2O$) against fiber shows in direction of light beige color. The result of instrument analysis ascertained inorganic components of K(221.100ppm), Mg(17.920ppm), Ca(5.129ppm), Na(2.940ppm), Si(0.638ppm) etc from Bokbunja with ICP/OES, and ascertained organic components of boric acic(1.711), silane(2.142), pyrazole(3.481), propyl isothiocyanate(2.565), furfurole(11.521) etc from Bokbunja with GC/MSD.
Background: Nosocomial infection control is one of important means to assure the quality of medical care in the hospital, however, it has been neglected by most of the hospital personnels. Of nosocomial infections, urinary tract infection is the highest incidence, which is related to the indwelling catheter. It is, therefore, necessary to pay primary attention to the patients with the indwelling catheter in intensive care unit in order to control nosocomial Infection and to improve the quality of medical care in the hospital. Methods : The subjects of this study were patients with indwelling catheter who were admitted to the ICU of Pusan Paik Hospital from March 1994 to May 1995. The author calculated UTI rate among the subjects through the cultivation of the urine, identified the related factors of the UTI through brain storming of study team and head nurses working at ICU, and analized the effectiveness of the proposed approaches through comparing the infection rates of before and after activities. Results : The major activities carried out by the study team were to conduct in-service education programs for the staffs working at ICU about the importance of the nosocomial infection control in QA, and nursing intervention to reduce the UTI rate among the patients with indwelling catether. 1. The major nursing interventions that the study team had implemented were as follows ; 1) Drainage system was changed from partial open system to completely closed system. 2) Bladder irrigation which was routinely practised in all patients stopped among the noninfected patients. 3) Bladder irrigation set was changed to the disposable one. 4) Catheter was inserted under the anesthesia for patients to be operated. 5) Male patient receiving wrapped with gauze after perineal care was not wrapped. 6) Clamp which had not been before was newly attached to drainage tube. 7) Urine bag which had been packed into a lot of pieces was done into each piece. 8) The interval of change of indwelling catheter had regularly been four weeks, however it was used continously until it worked well. 9) Catheter was attached well at the defined site. 10) Paper towel was used instead of cotton towel. 11) Mats at the entrance were removed and cleansing of wards was enhanced. 2. The UTI rate by month was 34.4% in maximum and 9.8% in minimum during the period of this study, however it had gradually decreased. After 6 months from initiating infection control activities, the trend of rates was relatively stable. It was identified that UTI rate was different by season 12.5% in winter and 27.2% in summer. 3. Utilization rate of indwelling catheter was maintained at under 50%, but it was increased above 57% from April 1995. 4. The number of bladder irrigation sets used per day was 33.3 sets in maximum and 2.8 sets in minimum. The number used per day were also remarkably deceased. Conclusion : It was found that a program to control UTI could contribute to nosocomial infection control, and it was, in turn, a mean to assure the quality of medical care in the hospital. The nursing interventions which this study team had implemented were effective in the reduce of UTI rates.
