  • In this paper, we study the characterizations of two-sided best simultaneous approximations for ℓ-tuple subset from a closed convex subset of ℝm with ℓm1(w)-norm. Main fact is, k* is a two-sided best simultaneous approximation to F from K if and only if there exist f1, …, fp in F, for any k ∈ K $${\mid}{\sum\limits_{i=1}^{m}}sgn(f_{ji}-k^*_i)k_iw_i{\mid}{\leq}\;{\sum\limits_{i{\in}Z(f_j-k^*)}}\;{\mid}k_i{\mid}w_i$$ for each j = 1, …, p and 𝐰 ∈ W.

  • Let E be a reflexive Banach space with a weakly sequentially continuous duality mapping, C be a nonempty closed convex subset of E, f : C $\rightarrow$C a contractive mapping (or a weakly contractive mapping), and T : C $\rightarrow$ C a nonexpansive mapping with the fixed point set F(T) ${\neq}{\emptyset}$. Let {$x_n$} be generated by a new composite iterative scheme: $y_n={\lambda}_nf(x_n)+(1-{\lambda}_n)Tx_n$, $x_{n+1}=(1-{\beta}_n)y_n+{\beta}_nTy_n$, ($n{\geq}0$). It is proved that {$x_n$} converges strongly to a point in F(T), which is a solution of certain variational inequality provided the sequence {$\lambda_n$} $\subset$ (0, 1) satisfies $lim_{n{\rightarrow}{\infty}}{\lambda}_n$ = 0 and $\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}{\lambda}_n={\infty}$, {$\beta_n$} $\subset$ [0, a) for some 0 < a < 1 and the sequence {$x_n$} is asymptotically regular.

  • Let K be a nonempty closed convex subset of a Banach space E. Suppose $\{T_{n}\}$ (n = 1,2,...) is a uniformly asymptotically regular sequence of nonexpansive mappings from K to K such that ${\cap}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ F$\(T_n){\neq}{\phi}$. For $x_0{\in}K$, define $x_{n+1}={\lambda}_{n+1}x_{n}+(1-{\lambda}_{n+1})T_{n+1}x_{n},n{\geq}0$. If ${\lambda}_n{\subset}[0,1]$ satisfies $lim_{n{\rightarrow}{\infty}}{\lambda}_n=0$, we proved that $\{x_n\}$ weakly converges to some $z{\in}F\;as\;n{\rightarrow}{\infty}$ in the framework of reflexive Banach space E which satisfies the Opial's condition or has $Fr{\acute{e}}chet$ differentiable norm or its dual $E^*$ has the Kadec-Klee property. We also obtain that $\{x_n\}$ strongly converges to some $z{\in}F$ in Banach space E if K is a compact subset of E or there exists one map $T{\in}\{T_{n};n=1,2,...\}$ satisfy some compact conditions such as T is semi compact or satisfy Condition A or $lim_{n{\rightarrow}{\infty}}d(x_{n},F(T))=0$ and so on.

  • Let X and Y be two normed spaces and D a nonempty convex subset of X. Let $T : X \ to L(X,Y)$ be a mapping, where L(X,Y) is the space of all continuous linear mappings from X into Y. And let $C : D \to 2^Y$ be a set-valued map such that for each $x \in D$, C(x) is a convex cone in Y such that Int $C(x) \neq 0 and C(x) \neq Y$, where Int denotes the interior.

  • Mixed H$_{2}$/H$_{\infty}$ robust control synthesis is considered for finite dimensional linear time-invariant systems under the presence of diagonal structured uncertainties. Such uncertainties arise for instance when there is real perturbation in the nominal model of the state space system or when modeling multiple (unstructured) uncertainty at different locations in the feedback loop. This synthesis problem is reduced to convex optimization problem over a bounded subset of matrices as well as diagonal matrix having certain structure. For computational purpose, this convex optimization problem is further reduced into Generalized Eigenvalue Minimization Problem where a powerful algorithm based on interior point method has been recently developed..

  • Let V be an arbitrary system of weights on an open connected subset G of ${\mathbb{C}}^N(N{\geq}1)$ and let B (E) be the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Banach space E. Let $HV_b$ (G, E) and $HV_0$ (G, E) be the weighted locally convex spaces of vector-valued analytic functions. In this paper, we characterize self-analytic mappings ${\phi}:G{\rightarrow}G$ and operator-valued analytic mappings ${\Psi}:G{\rightarrow}B(E)$ which generate weighted composition operators and invertible weighted composition operators on the spaces $HV_b$ (G, E) and $HV_0$ (G, E) for different systems of weights V on G. Also, we obtained compact weighted composition operators on these spaces for some nice classes of weights.

  • In this Paper, the notion of $\varepsilon$-Birkhoff orthogonality introduced by Dragomir [An. Univ. Timisoara Ser. Stiint. Mat. 29(1991), no. 1, 51-58] in normed linear spaces has been extended to metric linear spaces and a decomposition theorem has been proved. Some results of Kainen, Kurkova and Vogt [J. Approx. Theory 105 (2000), no. 2, 252-262] proved on e-near best approximation in normed linear spaces have also been extended to metric linear spaces. It is shown that if (X, d) is a convex metric linear space which is pseudo strictly convex and M a boundedly compact closed subset of X such that for each $\varepsilon$>0 there exists a continuous $\varepsilon$-near best approximation $\phi$ : X → M of X by M then M is a chebyshev set .

  • Let E be a uniformly convex Banach space with a uniformly $G{\hat{a}}teaux$ differentiable norm, C a nonempty closed convex subset of E, and $T:C{\rightarrow}{\mathcal{K}}(E)$ a multivalued nonself-mapping such that $P_T$ is nonexpansive, where $P_T(x)=\{u_x{\in}Tx:{\parallel}x-u_x{\parallel}=d(x,Tx)\}$. For $f:C{\rightarrow}C$ a contraction and $t{\in}(0,1)$, let $x_t$ be a fixed point of a contraction $S_t:C{\rightarrow}{\mathcal{K}}(E)$, defined by $S_tx:=tP_T(x)+(1-t)f(x)$, $x{\in}C$. It is proved that if C is a nonexpansive retract of E and $\{x_t\}$ is bounded, then the strong ${\lim}_{t{\rightarrow}1}x_t$ exists and belongs to the fixed point set of T. Moreover, we study the strong convergence of $\{x_t\}$ with the weak inwardness condition on T in a reflexive Banach space with a uniformly $G{\hat{a}}teaux$ differentiable norm. Our results provide a partial answer to Jung's question.

  • Let X be a closed convex subset of a Banach space B and T:X.rarw.X a lipschitzian rotative map, i.e., such that ∥Tx-Ty∥.leq.k∥x-y∥ and ∥T$^{n}$ x-x∥.leq.a∥Tx-x∥ for some real k, a and an integer n>a. We denote by .PHI. (n, a, k, X) the family of all such maps. In [3], [4], K. Goebel and M. Koter obtained results concerning the existence of fixed points of T depending on k, a and n. In the present paper, the main results of [3], [4] are so strengthened that some information concerning the geometric estimations of fixed points are given.
