Multivariate cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts for simultaneously monitoring both means and variances under multivariate normal process are investigated. Performances of multivariate CUSUM schemes are evaluated for matched fixed sampling interval (FSI) and variable sampling interval (VSI) features in terms of average time to signal (ATS), average number of samples to signal (ANSS). Multivariate Shewhart charts are also considered to compare the properties of multivariate CUSUM charts. Numerical results show that presented CUSUM charts are more efficient than the corresponding Shewhart chart for small or moderate shifts and VSI feature with two sampling intervals is more efficient than FSI feature. When small changes in the production process have occurred, CUSUM chart with small reference values will be recommended in terms of the time to signal.

Growth charts are curves or tables that facilitate the visualization of anthropometric parameters, and are widely used as an important indicator when evaluating the growth status of children and adolescents. The latest version of the Korean National Growth Charts released in 2007 has raised concerns regarding the inclusion of data from both breastfed and formula-fed infants, higher body mass index (BMI) values in boys, and smaller 3rd percentile values in height-for-age charts. Thus, new growth charts have been developed to improve the previous version. The 2006 World Health Organization Child Growth Standards, regarded as the standard for breastfed infants and children, were introduced for children aged 0-35 months. For children and adolescents aged 3-18 years, these new growth charts include height-for-age, weight-for-age, BMI-for-age, weight-for-height, and head circumference-for-age charts, and were developed using data obtained in 1997 and 2005. Data sets and exclusion criteria were applied differently for the development of the different growth charts. BMI-for-age charts were adjusted to decrease the 95th percentile values of BMI. Criteria for obesity were simplified and defined as a BMI of ${\geq}95th$ percentile for age and sex. The 3rd percentile values for height-for-age charts were also increased. Additional percentile lines (1st and 99th) and growth charts with standard deviation lines were introduced. 2017 Korean National Growth Charts are recommended for the evaluation of body size and growth of Korean children and adolescents for use in clinics and the public health sector in Korea.
This paper proposes a curtailed-sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) control chart. For using the conventional SPRT control chart, the number of items inspected in a sampling point should have no restriction since items in a sampling point are inspected one by one until an SPRT Is terminated. The number of observations taken in a sampling point, however, has an upper bound since sampling and testing of an item is time-consuming or expensive. When the sample size reaches the upper bound without evidence of an in-control or out-of-control state of a process, the proposed chart makes a decision using the sample mean of all observations taken in a sampling point. The properties of the Proposed chart are obtained by a Markov chain approach and the performance of the chart is compared with fixed sample size (FSS) and variable sample size (VSS) control charts. A comparative study shows that the proposed chart performs better than VSS control charts as well as conventional FSS control charts.
In most statistical process control(SPC), control charts are used in which samples are taken and a suitable statistic is determined and plotted. In these control charts, control limits, ${\mu}{\pm}textsc{k{\sigma}}$, from which a decision is made are mostly ${\mu}{\pm}3{\sigma}$ and current literature in control charts are mainly concerned with detecting a shift in the mean. Therefore, when $\sigma$ is increased considerably after a long time, using control limits set at the first time causes a great deal of economic loss. In this paper the solutions to determine new control limits which maximizes the profit per unit produced and reduce $\sigma$ to economically optimal level for a certain cost when $\sigma$ is increased due to process deterioration are proposed. By applying new control limits, $\alpha$ error decreases considerably compared to apply initial control limits when $\sigma$ is increased due to process deterioration. Therefore, false alarm investigation cost drops down to the level of initial a error. And also this solution provides useful information regarding replacement of a process when the process is reviewed regularly.
This paper investigates the economic design of synthetic control charts. The synthetic control chart has been proven to be statistically superior to the $\bar{X}$-control chart, but its economic characteristics have not been known. We develop an economic model of the synthetic control chart, based on Duncan's model. The synthetic chart has one more decision variable, the lower control limit for the conforming run length. In addition to this, the significance level and the power of the synthetic chart are more complicated than those of the $\bar{X}$-chart. These features make the optimization problem more difficult. We propose an optimization algorithm by adapting the congruent gradient algorithm. We compare the optimal cost of the synthetic chart with that of (equation omitted)-control chart, under the same input parameter set of Duncan’s. For all cases investigated, the synthetic chart shows superior to the $\bar{X}$-chart. The synthetic control chart is easy to implement, and it has better characteristics than the $\bar{X}$-chart in economical sense as well as in statistical sense, so it will be a good alternative to the traditional control charts.
Variable sampling Interval (VSI) control charts vary the sampling interval according to value of the control statistic while the sample size is fixed. It is known that control charts with 2-state VSI scheme, which uses only two sampling intervals, give good statistical properties. Variable sample size (VSS) control charts vary the sample size according to value of the control statistic while the sampling interval is fixed. In the VSS scheme no optimal results are known for the number of sample sizes. It is also known that the variable sampling rate (VSR) $\bar{X}$ control chart with 2-state VSS and 2-state VSI scheme leads to large improvements In performance over the fixed sampling rate (FSR) $\bar{X}$ chart, but the optimal number of states for sample size Is not known. In this paper, the VSR Χ charts with multi-state VSS and 2-state VSI scheme are designed and compared to 2-state VSS and 2-state VSI scheme. The multi-state VSS scheme is considered to, achieve an additional improvement by switching from the 2-state VSS scheme. On the other hand, the multi-state VSI scheme is not considered because the 2-state scheme is known to be optimal. The 3-state VSS scheme improves substantially the sensitivity of the $\bar{X}$ chart especially for small and moderate mean shifts.

Performances of variable sampling interval(VSI) multivariate control charts with accumulate-combine approach for monitoring mean vector of p related quality variables were investigated. Shewhart control chart is also proposed to compare the performances of CUSUM and EWMA charts. Numerical comparisons show that performances of CUSUM and EWMA charts are more efficient than Shewhart chart for small or moderate shifts, and VSI chart is more efficient than fixed sampling interval(FSI) chart. We also found that performances of the CUSUM or EWMA chart with accumulate-combine approach are substantially efficient than those of Shewhart chart.

Some switching properties of multivariate control charts are investigated when the interval between two consecutive sample selections is not fixed but changes according to the result of the previous sample observation. Many articles showed that the performances of variable sampling interval control charts are more efficient than those of fixed sampling interval control charts in terms of average run length (ARL) and average time to signal (ATS). Unfortunately, the ARL and the ATS do not provide any information on how frequent a switch is being made. We evaluate several switching properties of two sampling interval Shewhart and CUSUM procedures for controlling mean vector of correlated quality variables.
Control chart is most widely used in SPC(Statistical Process Control), Recently it is a critical issue that the standard control chart is not suitable to non-normal process with very small percent defective. Especially, this problem causes serious errors in the reliability procurement, such as semiconductor, high-precision machining and chemical process etc. Procuring process control technique for non-normal process with very small percent defective and perturbation is becoming urgent. Control chart technique in non-normal distribution become very important issue. In this paper, we investigate on research trend of control charts under non-normal distribution.
Markov chain method to evaluate the properties of control charts with variable sampling intervals(VSI0 for simultaneously monitoring several correlated quality characteristics under multivariate normal process are investigated. For comparing the efficiencies and properties of multivariate control charts, we consider multivariate Shewhart, CUSUM and EWMA charts in terms of average time to signal(ATS) and average number of samples to signal(ANSS). We obtained stabilized numerical results with Markov chain method when the number of transient state is greater than 100.
