  • A shape data is used one oi most important feature for image retrieval as data to reflect meaning of image. Especially, structural feature of shape is widely studied because it represents primitive properties of shape and relation information between basic units well. However, most structural features of shape have the problem that it is not able to guarantee an efficient search time because the features are expressed as graph or tree. In order to solve this problem, we generate curvature-based morphological graph, End design key to cluster shapes from this graph. Proposed this graph have contour features and morphological features of a shape. Shape retrieval is accomplished by stages. We reduce a search space through clustering, and determine total similarity value through pattern matching of external curvature. Various experiments show that our approach reduces computational complexity and retrieval cost.

  • Recent worldwide trends show that tunnel length is getting longer, and the demand for longitudinal ventilation system with jet-fans in highway tunnels has also increased mainly due to the economic reasons. Improvements in vehicle engine subsequently reduced required ventilation rate(Qreq) which is the decisive factor in choosing the optimal ventilation system. Qreq contour map is a graph that defines the relationship among tunnel length, grade and required ventilation rate. It is important to understand the variation of Qreq in order to evaluate the characteristics of ventilation system with jet fans. Therefore this study aims at studying a graphical method for determining the characteristics of jet-fm ventilation system using Qreq contour map. Also, this study focuses on traffic composition on local highways.

  • A rigorous field analysis by the non-decaying mode and the contour graph method is presented for dielectric-rod loaded cylindrical cavity resonators. Resonant frequencies and the lowest order modes for this resonator are calculated. The mode charts are presented to design the resonators. TE mode(transverse electric or H mode, having no Ez), TM mode(transverse magnetic or I mode, having no ㎐) and HEM mode(hybrid electromagnetic mode, having non-zero Ez and ㎐) are analyzed in detail using non-decaying mode method. The mode charts are completed. The validity of the theory is confirmed by experiments. The results were on the whole satisfactory. Experimental measurements show excellent agrement with the numerical results. The average error of TE, TM, and HEM mode is about 0.20 %, 0.14 %, and 0.28 %, respectively.

  • The value of daily heating degree hour(described as DH hereafter) is essential for calculating the heating load of a greenhouse during the winter months. Many researchers have so for proposed different models for estimating DH value. Models for estimating DH have been investigated DH(unit, ℃·h·year-1) in this paper. The comparisons of standard and existed DH values were made to know the estimation error of each model proposed so far. The standard DH values and other proposed DH values have were obtained for the inside setpoint temperatures of 9, 13, 16 and 20℃ in greenhouse, estimated based on meterological data from 1961 to 2000 according to locals, and standard DH values were independent and existed DH values were dependent. Among the various model, the one developed theoretically by Mihara modified to author was the best fitting for standard DH values. The DH values were obtained for the inside setpoint temperature of 9, 13, 16 and 20℃ by Modified Mihara's model. A new DH contour line graph was proposed using Modified Mihara's model. Using the DH contour line graph, the DH values can be obtained easily for any setpoint according to local.

  • Background: In this study, microwave extraction was used, which is an effective method to extract useful bioactive substances as it requires low quantities of solvent and short time periods. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal extraction conditions for Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb. Methods and Results: The independent variables were ethanol concentration, microwave power, and extraction time, each of which had five levels. The dependent variables were total polyphenol and total flavonoid content, and DPPH radical scavenging activity. To determine the optimal extraction conditions for bioactive compounds, a response surface methodology was employed. Contour maps were generated from polynomial equations. The optimal conditions were then assumed by superimposing these contour maps. Based on the resulting graph, the optimal microwave extraction conditions for Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb were determined as 42 - 48% ethanol concentration, 240 - 280W microwave power, and 13 - 20 min of extraction time. Conclusions: Ethanol concentration had a significant effect on microwave extraction, in terms of total polyphenol and total flavonoid content, as well as DPPH radical scavenging activity. Microwave power and extraction time influenced the total polyphenol content, but not the total flavonoid content or the DPPH radical scavenging activity.

  • In this paper an efficient algorithm to estimate the volume and surface area and the reconstruction algorithm for 3-dimensional graphics are presented. The graph theory is used to estimate the optimal quantitative factors. To improve the computing efficiency, the algorithm to get proper contour points is performed by applying several tolerances. The search and the given arc cost is limited according to the change of curvature of the cross-sectional contour. For mathematical model, these algorithms for volume estimation based on polyhedral approximation are applied to the selected optimal surface. The results show that the values of the volume and surface area for tolerances 1.0005, 1.001 and 1.002 approximate to values for tolerances 1.000 resulting in small errors. The reconstructed three-dimensional images are sparse and consist of larger triangular tiles between two cross sections as tolerance is increasing.

  • Dynamic stability of rotating blade considering gravity effect is investigated in this paper. Equations of motion for the beam is derived by employing hybrid deformation variable method and transformed into dimensionless form. The present modeling method is verified by RecurDyn. Stability diagrams are presented to show the influence of the configuration of the beam and angular velocity on the dynamic stability by applying Floquet's theory. Since the natural frequencies are varied when the blade has rotating motion, it is found that relatively large unstable regions exist approximately 1.1 times as high as the first bending natural frequency and half of the sum of first and second bending natural frequency.

  • Traditionally, aerial images have been used as main sources for compiling topographic maps. In recent years, lidar data has been exploited as another type of mapping data. Regarding their performances, aerial imagery has the ability to delineate object boundaries but omits much of these boundaries during feature extraction. Lidar provides direct information about heights of object surfaces but have limitations with respect to boundary localization. Considering the characteristics of the sensors, this paper proposes an approach to extracting buildings from lidar and aerial imagery, which is based on the complementary characteristics of optical and range sensors. For detecting building regions, relationships among elevation contours are represented into directional graphs and searched for the contours corresponding to external boundaries of buildings. For generating building models, a wing model is proposed to assemble roof surface patches into a complete building model. Then, building models are projected and checked with features in aerial images. Experimental results show that the proposed approach provides an efficient and accurate way to extract building models.
