  • The strain localization of concrete is a phenomenon such that the deformation of concrete is localized in finite region along with softening behavior. The objective of this paper is to develope a consistent algorithm for the finite element modeling of localized zone in the analysis of the strain-localization in concrete. For modeling of the localized zone in concrete under strain localization, a general Drucker-Prager failure criterion which can consider nonlinear strain softening behavior of concrete after peak-stress is introduce. The return-mapping algorithm is used for the integration of the elasto-plastic rate equation and the consistent tangent modulus is derived. Using finite element program implemented with the developed algorithms, strain localization behaviors for the different sizes of concrete specimen under compression are simulated.

  • In this paper, at first, we investigate existing algorithms for finding the minimum infinity-norm solution of consistent linear equations and then propose a new algorithm. The proposed algorithm is intended to includes the advantages of computational efficiency as well as geometric explicitness. As a practical application example, optimum trajectory planning for redundant robot manipulators is considered. Also, an efficient approach avoiding discontinuity in trajectory is proposed by resolving the non-uniqueness problem of minimum infinity-norm solution. To be specific, the proposed method for checking possible discontinuity does not need any other algorithms in checking the possibility of discontinuity while previous work needs specially designed checking courses. To show the usefulness of the proposed techniques, an example calculating minimum infinity-norm solution for comparing the computational efficiency as well as the trajectory planning for a redundant robot manipulator are included.

  • Bayesian MAP-EM approaches have been quite useful or tomographic reconstruction in that they can stabilize the instability of well-known ML-EM approaches, and can incorporate a priori information on the underlying emission object. However, MAP reconstruction algorithms with expressive priors often suffer from the optimization problem when their objective unctions are nonquadratic. In our previous work [1], we showed that the use of deterministic annealing method greatly reduces computational burden or optimization and provides a good solution or nonquadratic objective unctions. Here, we further investigate the convergence of the deterministic annealing algorithm; our experimental results show that, while the solutions obtained by a simple quenching algorithm depend on the initial conditions, the estimates converged via deterministic annealing algorithm are consistent under various initial conditions.

  • Due to the complicated character of the hemming process for automobile panels, it is very difficult to setup a consistent and reliable die design guide rule that require subtle decision of experienced experts and multiple trials during hemming die design and making. In this paper an automatic die design system of hemming units is pursued by presenting some algorithms, in which geometric data and constraints of the hemming units were converted to formula. The geometries and kinematics of all part for two kinds of hemming units, 2-link type and 4-link type were analysed kinematically to build the design algorithm. The algorithms were verified by automatic drawing used AutoCAD VBA program in example for the hemming unit design of a bonnet.

  • A DEM(digital elevation model) is generated from a SPOT panchromatic stereo-pair using automated algorithms over a 8 km$\times$10 km region around Mokpo city. The aims are to continue the accuracy assessment over diverse conditions and to examine the applicability of a SPOT DEM for coastal disaster monitoring. The accuracy is assessed with respect to three reference data sets: 10 global positioning system records, 19 leveling data, and 1:50,000 topography map. The planimetric error is 10.6m r.m.s. and the elevation erroer ranges from 12.4m to 14.4m r.m.s.. The DEM accuracy of the flat Mokpo region is consistent with that over a mountainous area, which supports the robustness of the algorithms. It was found that coordinate transformation errors are significant at a few meters when using the data from leveling and topographic maps. The error budget is greater than the requirements for coastal disaster monitoring. Exploiting that a sub-scene is used, the affine transformation improves the accuracy by 50% during the camera modeling.

  • The machine-vision based structural displacement measurement methods are widely used due to its flexible deployment and non-contact measurement characteristics. The accuracy of vision measurement is directly related to the image resolution. In the field of computer vision, super-resolution reconstruction is an emerging method to improve image resolution. Particularly, the deep-learning based image super-resolution methods have shown great potential for improving image resolution and thus the machine-vision based measurement. In this article, we firstly review the latest progress of several deep learning based super-resolution models, together with the public benchmark datasets and the performance evaluation index. Secondly, we construct a binocular visual measurement platform to measure the distances of the adjacent corners on a chessboard that is universally used as a target when measuring the structure displacement via machine-vision based approaches. And then, several typical deep learning based super resolution algorithms are employed to improve the visual measurement performance. Experimental results show that super-resolution reconstruction technology can improve the accuracy of distance measurement of adjacent corners. According to the experimental results, one can find that the measurement accuracy improvement of the super resolution algorithms is not consistent with the existing quantitative performance evaluation index. Lastly, the current challenges and future trends of super resolution algorithms for visual measurement applications are pointed out.

  • Land surface temperature (LST) is a one of the key variables of land surface which can be estimated from geostationary meteorological satellite. In this study, we have developed the three sets of LST retrieval algorithm from MTSAT-2 data through the radiative transfer simulations under various atmospheric profiles (TIGR data), satellite zenith angle, spectral emissivity, and surface lapse rate conditions using MODTRAN 4. The three LST algorithms are daytime, nighttime and total LST algorithms. The weighting method based on the solar zenith angle is developed for the consistent retrieval of LST at the early morning and evening time. The spectral emissivity of two thermal infrared channels is estimated by using vegetation coverage method with land cover map and 15-day normalized vegetation index data. In general, the three LST algorithms well estimated the LST without regard to the satellite zenith angle, water vapour amount, and surface lapse rate. However, the daytime LST algorithm shows a large bias especially for the warm LST (> 300 K) at day time conditions. The night LST algorithm shows a relatively large error for the LST (260 ~ 280K) at the night time conditions. The sensitivity analysis showed that the performance of weighting method is clearly improved regardless of the impacting conditions although the improvements of the weighted LST compared to the total LST are quite different according to the atmospheric and surface lapse rate conditions. The validation results of daytime (nighttime) LST with MODIS LST showed that the correlation coefficients, bias and RMSE are about 0.62~0.93 (0.44~0.83), -1.47~1.53 (-1.80~0.17), and 2.25~4.77 (2.15~4.27), respectively. However, the performance of daytime/nighttime LST algorithms is slightly degraded compared to that of the total LST algorithm.

  • Improving the speed of image processing is in great demand according to spread of high quality visual media or massive image applications such as 3D TV or movies, AR(Augmented reality). SIMD computer attached to a host computer can accelerate various image processing and massive data operations. MAMS is a multi-access memory system which is, along with multiple processing elements(PEs), adequate for establishing a high performance pipelined SIMD machine. MAMS supports simultaneous access to pq data elements within a horizontal, a vertical, or a block subarray with a constant interval in an arbitrary position in an $M{\times}N$ array of data elements, where the number of memory modules(MMs), m, is a prime number greater than pq. MAMS-PP4 is the first realization of the MAMS architecture, which consists of four PEs in a single chip and five MMs. This paper presents implementation of image processing algorithms and performance analysis for MAMS-PP16 which consists of 16 PEs with 17 MMs in an extension or the prior work, MAMS-PP4. The newly designed MAMS-PP16 has a 64 bit instruction format and application specific instruction set. The author develops a simulator of the MAMS-PP16 system, which implemented algorithms can be executed on. Performance analysis has done with this simulator executing implemented algorithms of processing images. The result of performance analysis verifies consistent response of MAMS-PP16 through the pyramid operation in image processing algorithms comparing with a Pentium-based serial processor. Executing the pyramid operation in MAMS-PP16 results in consistent response of processing time while randomly response time in a serial processor.

  • In this paper we discuss the elements which must be considered for collaboration- aware application design and their effcets on user interfaces. Collaboration-aware applications have inter-user and user/system interaction features besides generic real-time distribution system features and this restricts the design freedom with the requirement of consistent user interfaces. Programmers, therefore, must provide uniform and logically consistent user interfaces to user and, for this end, they should consider main design features such as concurrency control algorithms, system topology and object replication scheme. Among the design factors concurrency control algorithms have relatively significant impact on user interfaces and we consider the impact of concurrency control agorithms along with that of thesystem to pologyand the objectreplication scheme. Coshed/SAS, a groupeditor, is given as an example of application of the factors.

  • Data quality management is an important issue these days. Improve data quality by providing consistent metadata. This study presents algorithms that facilitate standard word dictionary management for consistent metadata management. Algorithms are presented to automate synonyms management of database metadata through web dictionary crawling. It also improves the accuracy of the data by resolving homonym distinction issues that may arise during the web dictionary crawling process. The algorithm proposed in this study increases the reliability of metadata data quality compared to the existing passive management. It can also reduce the time spent on registering and managing synonym data. Further research on the new data standardization partial automation model will need to be continued, with a detailed understanding of some of the automatable tasks in future data standardization activities.
