  • In this paper we consider the two tangent lines of isogonal and isotomic conjugates of the line at both vertices of a given triangle. We find the necessary and sufficient condition for the two tangent lines of isogonal or isotomic conjugates of the line at both vertices and the median line to be concurrent. We also prove that every line whose isogonal conjugate tangent lines at both vertices are concurrent with the median line intersects at a unique point. Moreover, we show that the three intersection points correspond to the vertices of triangle are collinear.

  • LiDAR systems are usually incorporated a laser scanner and GPS/INS modules with a digital aerial camera. LiDAR point clouds and digital aerial images acquired by the systems provide complementary spatial information on the ground. In addition, some of laser scanners provide intensity, radiometric information on the surface of the earth. Since the intensity is unnecessary of registration and provides the radiometric information at a certain wavelength on the location of LiDAR point, it can be a valuable ancillary information but it does not deliver sufficient radiometric information compared with digital images. This study utilize the LiDAR points as ground control points (GCPs) to adjust exterior orientations(EOs) of the stereo images. It is difficult to find exact point of LiDAR corresponding to conjugate points in stereo images, but this study used intensity of LiDAR as an ancillary data to find the GCPs. The LiDAR points were successfully used to adjust EOs of stereo aerial images, therefore, successfully provided the prerequisite for the precise registration of the two data sets from the LiDAR systems.

  • To adjust the discrepancy between Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) strips, previous researches generally have been conducted using conjugate features, which are called feature-based approaches. However, irrespective of the type of features used, the adjustment process relies upon the existence of suitable conjugate features within the overlapping area and the ability of employed methods to detect and extract the features. These limitations make the process complex and sometimes limit the applicability of developed methodologies because of a lack of suitable features in overlapping areas. To address these drawbacks, this paper presents a methodology using area-based algorithms. This approach is based on the scheme that discrepancies make complex the local height variations of LIDAR data whithin overlapping area. This scheme can be helpful to determine an appropriate transformation for adjustment in the way that minimizes the geographical complexity. During the process, the contour tree (CT) was used to represent the geological characteristics of LIDAR points in overlapping area and the Iterative Closest Points (ICP) algorithm was applied to automatically determine parameters of transformation. After transformation, discrepancies were measured again and the results were evaluated statistically. This research provides a robust methodology without restrictions involved in methods that employ conjugate features. Our method also makes the overall adjustment process generally applicable and automated.

  • This study presents a Bayesian multiple change-point detection approach to segment and classify the observations that no longer come from an initial population after a certain time. Inferences are based on the multiple change-points in a sequence of random variables where the probability distribution changes. Bayesian multiple change-point estimation is classifies each observation into a segment. We use a truncated Poisson distribution for the number of change-points and conjugate prior for the exponential family distributions. The Bayesian method can lead the unsupervised classification of discrete, continuous variables and multivariate vectors based on latent class models; therefore, the solution for change-points corresponds to the stochastic partitions of observed data. We demonstrate segmentation with real data.

  • The inverse problem of determining unknown inlet temperature in thermally developing, hydrodynamically developed two phase laminar flow in a parallel plate duct is considered. The inlet temperature profile is determined by measuring temperature in the flow field. No prior information is needed for the functional form of the inlet temperature profile. The inverse convection problem is solved by minimizing the objective function with regularization method. The conjugate gradient method as iterative method and the Tikhonov regularization method are employed. The effects of the functional form of inlet temperature, the number of measurement points and the measurement errors are investigated. The accuracy and efficiency of these two methods are compared and discussed.

  • This study presents an automatic matching method for generating a dense, accurate, and discontinuity-preserved digital surface model (DSM) using multiple images acquired by an aerial digital frame camera. The proposed method consists of two main procedures: area-based multi-image matching (AMIM) and stereo-pair epipolar line matching (SELM). AMIM evaluates the sum of the normalized cross correlation of corresponding image points from multiple images to determine the optimal height of an object point. A novel method is introduced for determining the search height range and incremental height, which are necessary for the vertical line locus used in the AMIM. This procedure also includes the means to select the best reference and target images for each strip so that multi-image matching can resolve the common problem over occlusion areas. The SELM extracts densely positioned distinct points along epipolar lines from the multiple images and generates a discontinuity-preserved DSM using geometric and radiometric constraints. The matched points derived by the AMIM are used as anchor points between overlapped images to find conjugate distinct points using epipolar geometry. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated for several different test areas, including urban areas.

  • A problem of choosing units for the series system and the 1-out-of-2 system from k available brands is treated from a decision-theoretic points of view. It is assumed that units from each brand have exponentially distributed life lengths, and that the loss functions are inversely proportional to the reliability of the system. For the series system the 'natural' rule is shown to be optimal. For the 1-out-of-2 system, the Bayes rule wrt the natural conjugate prior is derived and teh constants to implement the Bayes rule are given.

  • A relatively simple method of locating the saddle point is presented. In this method a single determination of the saddle point location by constrained energy minimizations for points selected on the assumed saddle surface provides us with the structure, location and energy of the TS, the reaction path at the saddle point and characterization as the TS. Some examples were given.
