A Study on the Concept and Spatial Organization of Bifurcation (분기(Bifurcation)의 개념과 공간조직에 관한 연구)

  • This study is focused on the concept and spatial organization of bifurcation. After discussing the concept of bifurcation used in Borges' literature and Deleuze's Fold philosophy, case examples in contemporary architecture are analysed to comparatively investigate the relationship between the concept and space. In Deleuze's philosophy, bifurcation as well as pleats, inflection are used to form the world of fold that goes to infinity while, in Borges' literature, the structure of bifurcation is the key method to create the labyrinth of time. There are various projects in contemporary architecture based on the Deleuzian concept of bifurcation. Rem Koolhaas's Two Libraries for Jussieu University and UN Studio's Arnhem Central are selected and researched for further comparison study. In Jussieu project, the bifurcating spatial organization is 'intentionally' used to construct the indeterminant space whereas in Arnhem Central, bifurcation can be found in both the ever-bifurcating design process as well as the final spatial organization'unintentionally'generated from the process. This study is concluded with the comparative analysis between the representation and actualization of a concept that are crucially different.

Operational Concept Design and Verification for Airborne SAR System (항공탑재 SAR 시스템 운용개념 설계 및 검증)

  • Airborne SAR system is the imaging Radar system that is loaded on a manned or unmanned aircraft, which is in charge of high quality image acquisition and moving target detection. This paper describes the operational requirements for the Airborne SAR system and suggests the operational concept to satisfy the requirements. To be specific, it describes the interface with airborne system, state definition and transition, operation mode based on mission definition file, fault management, and data storing and transmission concept. Finally, it gives the ground test results to verify the SAR system operational concept.

  • Entering into the 21st century, digital culture and the innovation of media technology have drastically changed our understanding of the concept of space. Increased availability of information made possible by technological advancement has, directly or indirectly, contributed to the development of space design, which, in turn, offers a possibility for a new paradigm in space design. Given these fundamental changes, this study seeks to explore how to understand the expansion of the concept of space. In order to answer this question, this study investigates de-materialization tendency in modern architectural design such as transparency, anti-gravity, complexity and simultaneity of space. It examines the interaction-oriented nature of space among human, information and time. Finally, based on concepts such as new hyper-surface, which transcend the limitations of space and time, it explores new emerging trends in space design.

Operational Concept of the NEXTSat-1 for Science Mission and Space Core Technology Verification

  • The next generation small satellite-1 (NEXTSat-1) program has been kicked off in 2012, and it will be launched in 2016 for the science missions and the verification of space core technologies. The payloads for these science missions are the Instrument for the Study of Space Storms (ISSS) and NIR Imaging Spectrometer for Star formation history (NISS). The ISSS and the NISS have been developed by Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Korea Astronomy and Space science Institute (KASI) respectively. The ISSS detects plasma densities and particle fluxes of 10 MeV energy range near the Earth and the NISS uses spectrometer. In order to verify the spacecraft core technologies in the space, the total of 7 space core technologies (SCT) will be applied to the NEXTSat-1 for space verification and those are under development. Thus, the operation modes for the ISSS and the NISS for space science missions and 7 SCTs for technology missions are analyzed for the required operation time during the NEXTSat-1's mission life time of 2 years. In this paper, the operational concept of the NEXTSat-1's science missions as well as the verification of space core technologies are presented considering constraints of volume, mass, and power after launch.

  • The constant evolution of society, culture and scientific technology, coupled with changes in life style and behavioral patterns, has led mankind to peroeive diverse needs for space. Particularly, the rapid structural change in the field of marketing has entailed changes in techinques for construction and presentation of space for an improved marketing environment. To satisfy such new, diverse needs for space, interior designers will have to redefine the "mankind and environmen( concept and examine their design methodology anew. The question of how to design available space for a certain purpose will remain a daunting task for designers in the future, as it has been in the past. In the pursuit of convenience and conformity to mankind's surroundings, every nation has, in common with other nations, basic design elements, design skills and other factors. In designing camercial space in a particular region, it is essential, however, to have a proper understanding of the social economic and cultural context indigenous to that region, as well as the impact on environmental and ecological change and marketing strategy. This study discusses design metholdology for the comming camercial space on the basis of the space concept and current status in Korea, with major emphasis on Korea's regional characteristics.

  • Today, in space design boundaries between spaces have become obscure and space images are changed and overlap each other. Moreover, with the digital technology creating more informational spaces with various interactions, the set up of intelligent space has been made possible in reality. As if to deny the law of physical limitation, interfaces are used as main concept in structuring and expressing the spaces. It appears once again when each section is an expressional factor of interfaces and when meanings are produced through the systemization. Here this study analyzes the hybrid action that appear in contemporary space design. At the very moment, interface emerged as an important concept, defining contemporary space design in a very different way and present interface as a new possibility in space.

  • Johnson and Skoug [Pacific J. Math. 83(1979), 157-176] introduced the concept of scale-invariant measurability in Wiener space. And the applied their results in the theory of the Feynman integral. A converse measurability theorem for Wiener space due to the $K{\ddot{o}}ehler$ and Yeh-Wiener space due to Skoug[Proc. Amer. Math. Soc 57(1976), 304-310] is one of the key concept to their discussion. In this paper, we will extend the results on converse measurability in Wiener space which Chang and Ryu[Proc. Amer. Math, Soc. 104(1998), 835-839] obtained to abstract Wiener space.

  • A leisure culture in the modern society is the measure of a value in one's life and has a symbolic meaning which reflects the aspect of a society where an individual belongs to. Therefore, the leisure is not a simple pleasure but has an critical meaning of expressing the culture of a country. In particular, the theme park leads the public amusement in the modern society using the cutting-edge equipments on a large scale in the postmodernism society being lead by the public. Nonetheless, Korea imports the theme parks of the same type as the Disney land of the Western Europe so that Korea depends on the foreign country in the leisure field. Therefore, in this study, the basic property of the theme park is investigated and the issues of Korean theme park will be revealed through the comparison of Korean theme park to foreign theme parks. In order to solve these issues, it points out that the concept of Korean traditional leisure space has inclusive and upgraded characteristics with many meanings, compared with the concept of the leisure space of foreign countries. . Based on this, the new concept of Korean theme park's space will be proposed. Specially, it is empathized that Korean own originality and credit should be preserved and Korean traditions should be succeeded.

An Exploratory Study on Interior Therapy (인테리어 테라피에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the interior therapy that introduced the concept of therapy into interior space. This study examines interior therapy based on the concepts of stress and therapy. As the study methods, a qualitative analysis to review the concept of interior therapy was conducted together with a quantitative analysis on the current state of domestic therapy-related researches. The scope of the study is limited to domestic journals published from 1988, when the first domestic research was embarked on to analyze the current status of therapy-related researches, until November 2016. According to the study results, the domestic therapy-related studies were mainly focused on aromatherapies and food therapies. By year, the first domestic study of its kind was conducted on logotherpay in 1988. And until 2000, studies were carried out mainly on aromatherapies. Since then, new psychotherapy research fields have emerged; color therapy in 2003 and food therapy in 2008. However, in the space design field except for color therapy-related researches, there have been not sufficient studies on the indoor space therapy field that investigates the possibility of indoor space as a therapy from an integrated viewpoint. Therefore, this study reviewed domestic researches on interior therapy which applied the concept of therapy to interior design and suggested three cognitive-emotional-behavioral measures as healing factors. Finally, this study is expected to be used as basic data for design planning and curriculum development which apply the concept of therapy to interior design-related fields.

A Study on the Characteristics of Exhibition Space Organization of the Museum's Typology on Served and Servant Space Type - Focused on Renzo Piano's Work Influenced by Louis I.   • Renzo Piano was first introduced to us when he got together with Richard Rogers and won the Grand Prize on Center George Pompidou Competition in Paris. Since then, he designed number of world renowned museum architecture such as Menil Collection & Museum, The Cy Twombly Gallery, Beyeler Foundation Museum, and most recently the New Pavilion of High Museum of Art. His museum design, in particular, showed very consistent feature which is differentiating the 'Served Space(exhibition area) and the Servant Space(service core or mechanical system area)'. In addition, the way he treats natural light as a special feature within his museum space was nicely done and it is remarkable both in design and engineering side; he always designed a very unique roof structure system to give life and to simulate emotion of light within the space. These are just a few points of his special design characteristics which differentiate him from the rest of the architect working today. While interested by works of Renzo Piano, we found that his work had very close relationship to Louis I. Kahn's design. Specially the way Renzo Piano differentiating serving and servant space and the way he treating natural light. Therefore, the purpose of study is focused on providing typology of museum exhibition organization as well as finding evidence of Louis I. Kahn's influence and concept he has shown in his museum projects through actual site visits and reference research. The method of research was as the following; first to find typology and its characteristics of exhibition space organization of all Renzo Piano's museum projects. Secondly to distinguish projects which show 'differentiated servant and served space'. As the result of this study, it was clear that Renzo Piano had influence of Louis I. Kahn on adopting 'Servant and Served Space' concept. But the research concluded with the facts to approve the uniqueness of Renzo Piane's design concept.
