  • An infinite dam with compound Poisson inputs and a state-dependent release rate is considered. We build the Kolmogorov's backward differential equation and solve it to obtain the Laplace transforms of the first exit times for this dam.

  • We consider the finite dam with compound Poisson inputs which is called M/G/1 finite dam. We assign some costs related to operating the dam and calculate the long-run average cost per unit time. Then, we find the optimal dam capacity under which the average costs is minimized.

  • We designed the compound CVT (Continuously Variable Transmissions) by combining power circulation mode CVT and power split mode CVT, which have been proposed for connecting 2K-H I differential gear to the V- belt type CVU (Continuously Variable Unit), as an input coupled type. With the designed compound CVT, we carried out theoretical analysis and performance experiments. We proved that the compound CVT had a better performance than either of the power circulation mode or power split mode.

  • 3,4-Dimethoxyphenethyl amine(1) and 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde were converted to compounds(4) through sucessive condensation and reduction reaction. Compound(4) was treated with methylthioacetyl chloride to give compound(5) then m-chloroperbenzoic acid(m-CPBA) treatment of compound(5) produced S-oxide(6). To obtain isoquinoline derivative(7),(8), compound(6) were treated with p-TsOH. Xylopinine(9) and it's derivatives(10) were produced by Bischler-Napieralski reaction.

  • We attempted to identify the compound responsible for the growth inhibition of Microcystis aeruginosa occurring when a culture broth of Bacillus subtilis C1 was added to the medium. The active compound was purified from B. subtilis C1 culture broth by adsorption chromatography and HPLC, and was identified as a type of glycolipid based on $^1H$ NMR and MS analyses. The purified active compound completely inhibited the growth of M. aeruginosa at a concentration of 10 ${\mu}g/ml$. This is the first report of a glycolipid produced by a Bacillus strain that has potential as an agent for the selective control of bloom-forming M. aeruginosa.

  • This paper proposes a Korean-Japanese Machine Translation System that processes unregistered words, modifiers and compound sentences. In mophological analysis, the unregistered words are processed by using unregistered word processing algorithm. The modifiers are processed by consulting noun-attributes and grammar rules. The compound sentence processing algorithm recognizes whether the sentence that includes commas is compound sentence or not. This system performs on IBM-PC/AT DOS using Prolog-1.

  • Crude extract of Xanthium strumarium inhibited mycelial growth and zoospore germination of Phytophthora drechsleri, the causal agent of Atractylis rot, in vitro. Fresh sap from X. strumarium at 50-fold dilution was highly effective in controlling the disease Incidence in pot and field trials. Purified extracts from cocklebur Inhibited mycelial growth and zoospore germination in vitro at a concentration of 12.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml and 15.6 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml, respectively. Hyphal tips affected by the compound showed malformation. The antifungal compound puri- fied fromX. strumarium was identified as 4-oxo-1 (5), 2,11, (13)-xanthatriene-12,8-olide, known as "deacetyl xanthumin".min".uot;.

  • Orally administered ginsengs come in contact with the gut microbiota, and their hydrophilic constituents, such as ginsenosides, are metabolized to hydrophobic compounds by gastric juice and gut microbiota: protopanxadiol-type ginsenosides are mainly transformed into compound K and ginsenoside Rh2; protopanaxatriol-type ginsenosides to ginsenoside Rh1 and protopanaxatriol, and ocotillol-type ginsenosides to ocotillol. Although this metabolizing activity varies between individuals, the metabolism of ginsenosides to compound K by gut microbiota in individuals treated with ginseng is proportional to the area under the blood concentration curve for compound K in their blood samples. These metabolites such as compound K exhibit potent pharmacological effects, such as antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antiallergic, and neuroprotective effects compared with the parent ginsenosides, such as Rb1, Rb2, and Re. Therefore, to monitor the potent pharmacological effects of ginseng, a novel probiotic fermentation technology has been developed to produce absorbable and bioactive metabolites. Based on these findings, it is concluded that gut microbiota play an important role in the pharmacological action of orally administered ginseng, and probiotics that can replace gut microbiota can be used in the development of beneficial and bioactive ginsengs.
