  • In this article, we consider properties of transcendental meromorphic solutions of the complex differential-difference equation $$P_n(z)f^{(n)}(2+{\eta}_n)+{\cdots}+P_1(z)f^{\prime}(z+{\eta}_1)+P_0(z)f(z+{\eta}_0)=0$$, and its non-homogeneous equation. Our results extend earlier results by Liu et al. [9].

  • This paper is concerned with the value distribution for meromorphic solutions f of a class of nonlinear partial differential-difference equation of first order with small coefficients. We show that such solutions f are uniquely determined by the poles of f and the zeros of f - c, f - d (counting multiplicities) for two distinct small functions c, d.

  • In this paper, we investigate the relations between the growth of meromorphic coefficients and that of meromorphic solutions of complex linear differential-difference equations with meromorphic coefficients of finite logarithmic order. Our results can be viewed as the generalization for both the cases of complex linear differential equations and complex linear difference equations.

  • In this paper, we utilize the Nevanlinna theory and uniqueness theory of meromorphic function to investigate the differential-difference analogue of $Br{\ddot{u}}ck$ conjecture. In other words, we consider ${\Delta}_{\eta}f(z)=f(z+{\eta})-f(z)$ and f'(z) share one value or one small function, and then obtain the precise expression of transcendental entire function f(z) under certain conditions, where ${\eta}{\in}{\mathbb{C}}{\backslash}\{0\}$ is a constant such that $f(z+{\eta})-f(z){\not\equiv}0$.

  • We study existence of polynomial integrating factors and solutions F(x, y)=c of first order nonlinear differential equations. We characterize the homogeneous case, and give algorithms for finding existence of and a basis for polynomial solutions of linear difference and differential equations and rational solutions or linear differential equations with polynomial coefficients. We relate singularities to nature of the solution. Solution of differential equations in closed form to some degree might be called more an art than a science: The investigator can try a number of methods and for a number of classes of equations these methods always work. In particular integrating factors are tricky to find. An analogous but simpler situation exists for integrating inclosed form, where for instance there exists a criterion for when an exponential integral can be found in closed form. In this paper we make a beginning in several directions on these problems, for 2 variable ordinary differential equations. The case of exact differentials reduces immediately to quadrature. The next step is perhaps that of a polynomial integrating factor, our main study. Here we are able to provide necessary conditions based on related homogeneous equations which probably suffice to decide existence in most cases. As part of our investigations we provide complete algorithms for existence of and finding a basis for polynomial solutions of linear differential and difference equations with polynomial coefficients, also rational solutions for such differential equations. Our goal would be a method for decidability of whether any differential equation Mdx+Mdy=0 with polynomial M, N has algebraic solutions(or an undecidability proof). We reduce the question of all solutions algebraic to singularities but have not yet found a definite procedure to find their type. We begin with general results on the set of all polynomial solutions and integrating factors. Consider a differential equation Mdx+Ndy where M, N are nonreal polynomials in x, y with no common factor. When does there exist an integrating factor u which is (i) polynomial (ii) rational? In case (i) the solution F(x, y)=c will be a polynomial. We assume all functions here are complex analytic polynomial in some open set.

  • Fiber reinforced cementitious composites are nowadays widely applied in civil engineering. The postcracking performance of this material depends on the interaction between a steel fiber, which is obliquely across a crack, and its surrounding matrix. While the partly debonded steel fiber is subjected to pulling out from the matrix and simultaneously subjected to transverse force, it may be modelled as a Bernoulli-Euler beam partly supported on an elastic foundation with non-linearly varying modulus. The fiber bridging the crack may be cut into two parts to simplify the problem (Leung and Li 1992). To obtain the transverse displacement at the cut end of the fiber (Fig. 1), it is convenient to directly solve the corresponding differential equation. At the first glance, it is a classical beam on foundation problem. However, the differential equation is not analytically solvable due to the non-linear distribution of the foundation stiffness. Moreover, since the second order deformation effect is included, the boundary conditions become complex and hence conventional numerical tools such as the spline or difference methods may not be sufficient. In this study, moment equilibrium is the basis for formulation of the fundamental differential equation for the beam (Timoshenko 1956). For the cantilever part of the beam, direct integration is performed. For the non-linearly supported part, a transformation is carried out to reduce the higher order differential equation into one order simultaneous equations. The Runge-Kutta technique is employed for the solution within the boundary domain. Finally, multi-dimensional optimization approaches are carefully tested and applied to find the boundary values that are of interest. The numerical solution procedure is demonstrated to be stable and convergent.

  • The cooling problem of the hot internal pipe flow has been investigated. Simultaneous conduction, convection, and radiation were considered with azimuthally varying convective heat loss at the pipe wall. A complex, nonlinear integro-differential radiative transfer equation was solved by the discrete ordinates method (or called S$_{N}$ method). The energy equation was solved by control volume based finite difference technique. A parametric study was performed by varying the conduction-to-radiation parameter, optical thickness, and scattering albedo. The results have shown that initially the radiatively active medium could be more efficiently cooled down compared with the cases otherwise. But even for the case with dominant radiation, as the medium temperature was lowered, the contribution of conduction became to exceed that of radiation.n.

  • Supervisory control theory, which was first proposed by Ramadge and Wonahm, is a well-suited control theory for the control of complex systems such as semiconductor manufacturing systems, automobile manufacturing systems, and chemical processes because these are better modeled by discrete event models than by differential or difference equation models at higher levels of abstraction. Moreover, decentralized supervisory control is an efficient method for large complex systems according to the divide-and-conquer principle. Decentralized supervisors cannot observe the events those of which occur only within the other supervisors. Therefore decentralized supervisors can be designed according to supervisory control theory under partial observation. This paper presents a solution and a design procedure of supervisory control problem (SCP) for the case of decentralized control and SCP under partial observation (SCPPO). We apply the proposed design procedure to an experimental CIM Testbed. And we compare and analyze the designed decentralized supervisors and partially observed supervisors.

  • The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) model was developed to analyze electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation in an inhomogeneous ionosphere. The EM analysis of ionosphere is complicated, owing to various propagation environments that are significantly influenced by plasma frequency, cyclotron frequency, and collision frequency. Based on the simple auxiliary differential equation (ADE) technique, we present an accurate FDTD algorithm suitable for the EM analysis of complex phenomena in the ionosphere under arbitrary-direction geomagnetic field. Numerical examples are used to validate our FDTD model in terms of the reflection coefficient of a single magnetized plasma slab. Based on the FDTD formulation developed here, we investigate EM wave propagation characteristics in the ionosphere using realistic ionospheric data for South Korea.

  • An investigation on the thermal buckling resistance of simply supported FGM beams having parabolic-concave thickness variation and temperature dependent material properties is presented in this paper. An analytical formulation based on the first order beam theory is derived and the governing differential equation of thermal stability is solved numerically using finite difference method. a function of thickness variation is introduced which controls the parabolic variation intensity of the beam thickness without changing its original material volume. The results showed the high importance of taking into account the temperature-dependent material properties in the thermal buckling analysis of such critical beam sections. Different Influencing parametric on the thermal stability are studied which may help in design guidelines of such complex structures.
