  • Background: The completeness of cancer registration is a major validity index of any reported cancer incidence. The present study aimed to evaluate the esophageal cancer incidence registered in the Tehran Metropolitan Area Cancer Registry. Materials and methods: The data on esophageal cancer abstracted from three sources of 1) pathology departments, 2) medical records, and 3) death certificates during 2003 till 2007 were utilized. The completeness of the data sources were evaluated using coverage (defined as the proportion of a community population with esophageal cancer identified by the source) and density (defined as the proportion of non-empty fields of the data by source). Results: A total 1,404 cases of esophageal cancer were reported for the duration of the study. Pathology provided 771, medical records 432, and death certificates 609. The coverage was 0.55 for pathology, 0.31 for medical records, and 0.43 for death certificates. The respective density values were 0.82, 0.96 and 0.98, respectively. Pathology (0.45) was the most complete source followed by medical records (0.42), and death certificates (0.29). Discussion: A low degree of completeness dictates putting more effort into case finding plus abstracting data more thoroughly.

  • This paper investigates an extension of the uninorm (based) logic UL, which is obtained by adding (t-weakening, $W_t$) (($\phi$ & $\psi$) ${\wedge}$ t) $\rightarrow$ $\phi$ to UL introduced by Metcalfe and Montagna in [8]. First, the t-weakening uninorm logic $UL_{Wt}$ (the UL with $W_t$) is introduced. The algebraic structures corresponding to $UL_{Wt}$ is then defined, and its algebraic completeness is established. Next standard completeness (i.e. completeness on the real unit interval [0, 1]) is established for this logic by using Jenei and Montagna-style approach for proving standard completeness in [3, 6].

  • In disputes involving contracts for work, most issues boil down a single, most crucial, underlying question: whether the agreed work was completed. The same applies to software development services, which are usually usually provided under contracts for work. In disputes arising from software development contracts, appraisal is commonly used to determine the completeness of the software in question. However, it is often difficult to ensure the objectivity of the appraisal. This study examines past cases involving the determination of software completeness to identify the method used in each case. Then, based on the findings, this study identifies issues requiring improvements to ensure objective determination of completeness.

  • With a new ordinary norm as an analogy of Krishna and Sarma[5] and Bag and Samanta[1], we will characterize the notions of the convergence of the sequences of fuzzy points, the fuzzy, ${\alpha}$-Cauchy sequence and fuzzy completeness.

  • In this paper, we deal with some axiomatic extensions of the involutive micanorm logic IMICAL. More precisely, first, the two involutive micanorm-based logics $P_nIMICAL$ and $FP_nIMICAL$ are introduced. Their algebraic structures are then defined, and their corresponding algebraic completeness is established. Next, standard completeness is established for $FP_nIMICAL$ using construction in the style of Jenei-Montagna.

  • For verifying consistency and completeness of some UML diagrams as a representative of the graphic notations for object-oriented designs, we first give an analysis of some UML diagrams and apply simple ER model to the UML diagrams. Next, we formally define this graphical representation as a set of sets and a set of functions. According to the semantics of these functions, we derive a set of rules to assure the consistency and completeness of this graphical representation. These rules will be included with a CASE tool, which possesses both the diagramming facility and the consistency and completeness checking capability.

  • Weakening-free non-associative fuzzy logics, which are based on mica-norms, are introduced as non-associative substructural logics extending $GL_{e\bot}$ (Non-associative Full Lambek calculus with exchange and constants T, F) introduced by Galatos and Ono (cf. see [10, 11]). First, the mica-norm logic MICAL, which is intended to cope with the tautologies of left-continuous conjunctive mica-norms and their residua, and several axiomatic extensions of it are introduced as weakening-free non-associative fuzzy logics. The algebraic structures corresponding to the systems are then defined, and algebraic completeness results for them are provided. Next, standard completeness (i,e. completeness with respect to algebras whose lattice reduct is the real unit interval [0, 1]) is established for these logics by using Jenei and Montagna-style approach for proving standard completeness in [7, 18].

  • An alternative interpretation of the completeness requirements for the higher order elements is presented. Apart from the familiar condition, $\sum_iN_i=1$, some additional conditions to be satisfied by the shape functions of higher order elements are identified. Elements with their geometry in the natural form, i.e., without any geometrical distortion, satisfy most of these additional conditions inherently. However, the geometrically distorted elements satisfy only fewer conditions. The practical implications of the satisfaction or non-satisfaction of these additional conditions are investigated with respect to a 3-node bar element, and 8- and 9-node quadrilateral elements. The results suggest that non-satisfaction of these additional conditions results in poorer performance of the element when the element is geometrically distorted. Based on the new interpretation of completeness requirements, a 3-node element and an 8-node rectangular element that are insensitive to mid-node distortion under a quadratic displacement field have been developed.

  • This paper presents an evaluation system to determine the completeness of a space map obtained by a visual SLAM(Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) algorithm. The proposed system consists of three parts. First, the proposed system detects the occurrence of loop closing to confirm that users acquired the information from all directions. Thereafter, the acquired map is divided with regular intervals and is verified whether each area has enough map points to successfully estimate users' position. Finally, to check the effectiveness of each map point, the system checks whether the map points are identifiable even at the location where there is a large distance difference from the acquisition position. Experimental results show that space maps whose completeness is proven by the proposed system has higher stability and accuracy in terms of position estimation than other maps that are not proven.
