  • This paper investigates the role of corporate entrepreneurship for enhancing a firm's market orientation and competence. It distinguishes exploitive competence enhancement from explorative competence enhancement. The results reveal that corporate entrepreneurship influences both exploitive competence enhancement and explorative competence enhancement. Interestingly, among the components of market orientation, competitor orientation plays key roles, facilitating interfunctional coordination, and thus increasing exploitive competence enhancement and explorative competence enhancement. However, customer orientation affects only explorative competence enhancement.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a cyclical empathy model-based empathy enhancement program on young children's empathy, peer competence and emotional intelligence. Methods: A total of 40 subjects were selected for this study from 5-year-old children attending S Day Care Center located in Seoul, out of whom 20 were assigned to an experimental group and the remaining 20 to a comparative group (control group). The SPSS 21 statistical program was used to determine whether there was a significant difference between the two groups in the effectiveness of the program implementation. Results: There were statistically significant differences in the changes between the pre and post scores of the experimental group and the comparative group, which showed that the cyclical empathy model-based empathy enhancement program was effective for the young children's empathy, peer competence and emotional intelligence. Conclusion/Implications: This study suggests that if a young children's empathy enhancement program can be applied to child care sites to help the teachers in the field children can overcome empathy-related difficulties by themselves. This study also provides basic information in order to have meaningful educational experiences in young children's education institutions.

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the relationship between critical thinking disposition and clinical competence among nurses in general hospitals. Methods: This study was a descriptive-correlational study with a convenience sample of 560 nurses from 5 general hospitals. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaires. Critical thinking disposition was measured using the Critical Thinking Disposition Scale for Nursing Students. Clinical competence was measured using the Standardized Nurse Performance Appraisal Tool. Results: The mean score for critical thinking disposition and clinical competence was 3.37 and 4.10 respectively on a 5 point scale. A statistically significant correlation was found between critical thinking disposition and clinical competence. A regression model explained 72.8% of clinical competence. Prudence is the most significant predictor of clinical competence ($R^2=.728$). Conclusion: Study findings suggest that nurses with a higher level of critical thinking disposition would have a higher level of clinical competence. Furthermore, prudence might be the most important predictor of clinical competence. In order to strengthen clinical competence in nurses, the development and enhancement of critical thinking should be emphasized at the college level and nurses should be encouraged to make a clinical decision with greater prudence.

Materials and Methods: A descriptive correlational study evaluating the relationships between compassionate competence, burnout, job stress, turnover intention, degrees of job satisfaction, and organizational commitment in 419 oncology nurses was conducted between January 30 and February 20, 2015. Results: The average score of compassionate competence for oncology nurses in the current study was higher than for clinical nurses. Conclusions: The correlational analysis between compassionate competence and organizational commitment, burnout, job stress, turnover intention, and degree of job satisfaction revealed a high correlation between compassionate competence and positive job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Conclusions: Compassionate competence was higher in oncology nurses than in nurses investigated in previous studies and positively correlated with work experience. Job satisfaction and organizational commitment in nurses may be improved through compassionate competence enhancement programs that employ a variety of experiences.

  • Background: This study aimed to examine the factors that influence clinical performance of dental hygiene students to provide useful data for developing strategies to improve clinical competence. Methods: The effects of variables on clinical competence by quantile level were analyzed using quantile regression analysis in 247 dental hygiene students. Quantile regression and multiple regression analyses were conducted using the Stata 11.0 program to analyze predictors of clinical competence. Results: The clinical competence score of dental hygiene students was 42.69±5.90, the satisfaction of clinical practice was 49.90±7.44, the clinical practice stress was 50.62±7.37, and the professional self-concept was 31.68±4.41. Empathy was the highest at 50.87±4.93. Multiple regression analysis showed that school year, stress from clinical training, satisfaction with clinical training, professional self-concept, and empathy had significant impact on clinical competence. Quantile regression analysis showed that the effects varied depending on the clinical competence level. School year and professional self-concept had a significant positive effect, regardless of the clinical competence level, while empathy had a significant positive effect at the top 10% (Q90) of the clinical competence level. Satisfaction with clinical practice affected clinical competence at Q25, Q50, and Q90. Stress from clinical practice had significant effects at Q25, Q50, and Q90 (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to the study results, different factors affected clinical competence according to the quantile of clinical competence. This study provides valuable implications for designing clinical competence enhancement programs and strategies. In addition, objective indicators for considering factors that may affect the clinical competence, such as academic competence and satisfaction of practice hospitals, are expected to require detailed analysis and measures.

Methods: Data obtained from the questionnaire survey conducted with 193 nurses were analyzed by means of t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient and Multiple Regression. Results: Empathic competence, in accordance with the general characteristics of nurses, displayed statistically significant differences in terms of final academic background. Further, occupational stress and ego-resilience displayed statistically significant differences related to the nurses' department of employment, age, and total clinical experiences, respectively. Empathic competence and ego-resilience have a significant positive correlation, and age and empathic competence were found to be the factors that impart influence on ego-resilience. Conclusion: The enhancement of empathic competence of nurses has affirmative effects on the satisfaction of patients with their nurses, and it also improves the ego-resilience of nurses. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply career training program aimed at enhancing the empathic competence of nurses as an in-service educational program.
