This study is designed to find out the effect of communication between parents and adolescents, and their goal orientation on academic self-efficacy, especially among second-year high school students based on all their family and social environments. For such purposes, a variety of data regarding background variables, communication between parents and adolescents, goal orientation, and academic self-efficacy were collected in Seoul and Goyang-si, Gyunggi-do. The major results of this study are as follows: First, the female high-school students showed a higher efficiency than the male ones when it comes to the communication between parents and adolescents. For the goal orientation, the girl students marked higher levels than the male counterparts; speaking of self-regulated efficiency, the former illustrated a much higher level than the latter as well. Second, academic self-efficacy is greatly influenced by goal orientation. The higher mastery and performance-approach goals are, the higher academic self-efficacy is. It has turned out that mastery goals have significant relationship with task difficulty performance, one of the sub-scales of academic self-efficacy. In addition, performance-approach goals proved to be deeply connected with self-regulated efficiency, but performance-avoidance goals were negative predictors of task difficulty performance and self-regulated efficiency. In turn, academic confidence, one of the sub-scales of academic self-efficacy, is believed to be under the influence of mastery goals and communication between fathers and adolescents.
Purpose: This study was undertaken to identify the mediating effect of family strengths in the relationship between e-learning readiness and learning management system-based online education learning outcomes. Our results provide basic data for proposing strategies to increase online education learning outcomes of nursing students. Methods: A self-report questionnaire was surveyed by 133 nursing students who took online education using a learning management system at three nursing colleges in Daejeon, Jeonbuk, and Gyeongbuk. The mediating effect of family strengths in the relationship between the e-learning readiness of the subject and online education learning outcomes, were analyzed by hierarchical multiple regression. Sobel test was performed to verify effectiveness of the pathway. Results: In the relationship between e-learning readiness and online education learning outcomes of nursing students, family strengths were determined to exert absolute mediating effect. Conclusions: Our results indicate that in order to improve e-learning readiness, the basic curriculum for nursing students should include web-based communication, cooperation, and the use of information technology, including interaction for online education. Improvements in family strengths can be achieved through home study activities, such as frequent conversations with members, monitoring achievements of the students, and sharing family leisure activities.
In this paper, the writer makes attempts to investigate what kinds of decision-making patterns are adopted, when husbands and wives make up their minds about home managerial problems of farming or fishing villages in Jeju Island. The data in this study were drawn through the questionaire collected from 299 families of farming of fishing villages in Jeju Island. Percentage and F-test applied to statistical analysis. The results are found as follows: 1. Although husbands and wives do joint decision making with each other, some decision making spheres are classified according to problems. 2. Family types are mainly made up of Autonomic family and syncratic family, but there are comparatively by far syncratic family in Jeju Island than any other area. 3. The background variables to be influenced upon are their ages, educational level, duration of marriage, the number of whole family, the number of daughters, the number of children, managing power of their living expenses, satisfaction of their conjugal lives, daily communication status, quarrels between them, locations of farming or fishing villages, etc.
This study investigated dialog sequence prototype that was the structure of communication, which could be shown in family counseling conversation between therapists and clients. The study was intended to review the process stages of family counseling through literature review, and divided functional phases into 'atmosphere formation phase', 'family evaluation phase', 'persuasion phase of cognitive change', 'confirmation phase of change experience', and 'termination phase'. The study selected two family therapists and 30 clients for research objects. They allowed data collections for the study after the explanation about the research objects. The transcribers were trained by the consent of transcription, which used particular symbol for verbal and nonverbal contents in conversation. The transcribed data were analyzed by dialog grammar, one of the linguistic dialog analysis method developed by Hundsnurscher(1994). This study described and explained dialog sequence prototype that displayed in conversation between family therapist and client through the total sessions in family therapy. The study found three types of dialog sequence prototype in 'atmosphere formation phase', eight types in 'family evaluation phase', nine types in 'persuasion phase of cognitive change', eight types in 'confirmation phase of change experience', and eight types of 'termination phase'. Even if the dialog sequence prototype mentioned above cannot be applied to the process of family therapy at its face value, these findings may contribute to beginners in counseling and graduate students majoring family therapy to do practice in counseling. The research has a limitation in which the study investigated dialog sequence prototype of conversation in two persons. Future research needs to include dialog sequence prototype of conversation among more than three persons. Specifically, when a family therapist do family counseling, he/she treats more than three family members as usual. Therefore, the researchers hope that future study investigates dialog sequence prototype between therapist and client, client and client, among therapist, client and other family members.
The primary purpose of this study was to analyze the types of home managers in association with effects of resourcefulness, communication and the conditions for effective home management' proposed by Shape and Winter(1991). A survey was conducted by subjects of 300 wives in Kwangju city. The statistical data were obtained by cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's test and chi-square test. Manager types based on the four conditions, resourcefulness and communication were classified into four clusters. Educational background, job status, family types, family life cycle and age difference between the oldest and the youngest child of the subjects were different from manager types. In conclusion, this study identified the four conditions of performance-condition dichotomy, timing, high level and middle range, resourcefulness, and communications in order to develop managerial capability. Marital satisfaction was affected by four elements such as confidence and affinity, mutual respect, communication, and cohesion. Each element showed significant differences by the socio-demographic variables. Out of these variables, age, academic career, health, occupation, and salary showed significant difference in all 4 elements affecting the marital satisfaction. 2. The couples with shorter marriage period, with religion, and belonging to a nuclear family, and doing social activities were recognized the necessity of education highly. 3. The higher the confidence and affinity, and cohesion between couple, the higher the demand for education program. The lower the score of communication between couple, they participated more often in the educational program. For the improvement of confidence and affinity between couple, the educational program with partners is necessary.
This study examines family relationship among North Korean migrant families in early adaptation (approximately, up to $5{\sim}6$ years after arrival in the South). Family cohesion, communication, power relationship, and conflicts and domestic violence among family members were examined by the perceptions of 67 male and female householders and their spouses. In the four areas of family relationship, the subjects have quite positive perceptions and shows no critically significant difference on the perceptions between before and after arrival. However, positive perception on family relationship gradually decreases as the length of time of in the South increases with linear or nonlinear patterns according to subcategories of family relationship. These findings suggest several social work practice implications in resettlement assistance for the North Korean migrant families.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors associated with marital satisfaction and stability among married men and women. The major findings of this study are as follows: the factors associated with marital satisfaction and stability are different between gender. For married women the positive communication with spouse strongly had positive effect on women's marital satisfaction, while destructive conflict strongly had negative effect on women's marital stability. Otherwise, married men's positive communication with spouse was the most important factor in the marital satisfaction. The emotional support of family-of-origin strongly had effect on men's marital stability. This study reveals that the emotional support from families of origin have a direct effect on needs for affection and autonomy, positive communication, destructive conflict patterns, sexual satisfaction, marital satisfaction and stability. Therefore, the results could be useful resources for family counselors and researchers to develop educational program for married couples.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the effect of perceived parent-adolescent communication on SNS addiction tendency among high school students and to investigate the mediating effects of self-control on the relationship between above variables. 567 students who were registered in three high schools located in D city completed a questionnaire on parent-adolescent communication, SNS addiction tendency, and self-control. Structural equation models were conducted to compare the research model (complete mediating effect) and the competing model (partial mediating effect), and bootstrapping was conducted to investigate the mediating effects of self-control with SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. The results are as follow: First, while the parent-adolescent communication did not directly have an effect the SNS addiction tendency, the self-control had a direct effect on the SNS addiction tendency. Second, the research model was selected as a final model which implied that parent-adolescent communication had an indirect effect on SNS addiction tendency among high school students. Third, self-control had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between parent-adolescent communication and high school students' SNS addiction tendency. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that parent-adolescent communication had an indirect effect rather than a direct effect through self-control on high school students' SNS addiction tendency. This result indicates that the SNS addiction tendency rate of high school student can be lowered, by mediating self-control. Finally, this study suggests that the implicit points on counseling methods to remedy self-control of high school students, and shortcomings and limits of this study and advice for follow-up studies all be discussed.
The purpose of this study was to examine the association between family meals and family strengths (cohesion and flexibility) in Korean families with school-aged children. We focused on five dimensions of family meals: frequency, family rituals, communication, rules and roles, and perceptions. Our data came from 619 mothers who were married with at least one child in elementary school. Our multiple regression analyses showed that mothers reported higher levels of both cohesion and flexibility when they gave a higher priority to family meals, made family meals a ritual, had conversations on diverse topics during family meals, or experienced lower levels of meal-related stress. In addition, higher levels of family flexibility were found when a family had more structured rules related to family meals and the father more regularly participated in meal-related housework. This study contributes to the literature by understanding the roles of family meals from a multi-dimensional perspective.
