  • A dual capillary column system is described for the simultaneous analysis of a given sample and measurement of retention index (RI) and area ratio (AR) values of each peak on two capillary columns of different polarity, DB-5 & DB-1701 from a single injection. Both capillary columns were connected to either a splitless injector or an on-column injector via a deactivated fused-silica capillary tubing of 1 m length and a 'Y' splitter. Both injection modes allowed to measure RI and AR values with high reproducibility (<0.01% RSD) and high accuracy (<10% RE), respectively with the exception that the trace and high boiling solutes required the on-column mode for the accurate quantification and AR comparison. When the dual capillary column system in on-column injection mode was applied to the blind samples containing organic acids, each acid was positively indentified by the combined computer RI library search-AR comparison.

  • The weld quality has always been an important factor affecting the development of exposed CFT column-base joint. In this paper, a new type of exposed RCFST column-base joint is proposed, in which the high strength steel bars (USD 685) are set through the column and reinforced concrete foundation without any base plate and anchor bolts. Three specimens, the varying axial force ratio (0, 0.25 and 0.5), were tested under cyclic loadings. In addition, the bending moment capacity, energy dissipation capacity and deformation capacity of column-base joints were clarified. The experimental results indicated that the axial force ratio increases the stiffness and the bending moment and improves the energy dissipation capacity of column-base joints. This is because a large axial force can limit the slip between steel tubular and infilled concrete effectively. The specimens show stable hysteresis behavior.

  • A radioprotective ginseng protein fraction was obtained from Korean white ginseng powder by the following isolation and purification procedures: Tris-HCI buffer extraction, 70% ammonium sulfate fractionation, CM-rellulosr column chromatography, heat inactivation and Sephadex G-75 column chromatography. This fraction was further purified by Sepharose 4B and Sephadex G-150 column chromatographies. Three fractions obtained were subjected to Native-PAGE and SDS-PAGE using gradient gels and the silver staining method. Molecular weights of the native proteins and their subunits were estimated.

  • In this paper the influence of rotary inertia, shear and compressibility on the value of the critical force for the Beck's column is analyzed. The constitutive equation is of Engesser's type. As a result, the critical load parameter for which instability of flutter type occurs is calculated for several values of the column's parameters.

  • There are some papers on structure theorems for the spaces of matrices over certain semirings. Beasley, Gregory and Pullman [1] obtained characterizations of semiring rank 1 matrices over certain semirings of the nonnegative reals. Beasley and Pullman [2] also obtained the structure theorems of Boolean rank 1 spaces. Since the semiring rank of a matrix differs from the column rank of it in general, we consider a structure theorem for semiring rank in [1] in view of column rank.

  • The maximal column rank of an m by n matrix A over max algebra is the maximal number of the columns of A which are linearly independent. We compare the maximal column rank with rank of matrices over max algebra. We also characterize the linear operators which preserve the maximal column rank of matrices over max algebra.

  • The dynamics and control of two complex column configurations (sidestream column with stripper; prcfractionater/sidestream column configuration), which are multivariable interacting and nonlinear, have been studied. A new control scheme developed by Hanand Park(1993) to deal with the nonlinear and multivariable nature of distillation processes has been applied to these complex distillation configurations. The control scheme incorporates a nonlinear wave model into a generic model control framework. An observer based on the nonlinear wave model is used to determine the profile positions of distillation column sections. The control scheme enables tight control of the profile position of each column section that leads to fast stabilization of product compositions.

  • The design of column joint is an important part of earthquake resistant design of reinforced concrete moment resisting frames. Beam column joints must provide sufficient stiffness and strength to resist and sustain the loads induced by adjacent beams and columns. This paper investigates the difference of the current design codes which provide a different approach for the design of beam column joint in seismic zone. The model provided by Hitoshi Shiohara(1998) is reviewed in this paper, which provides a good relationship between moment and shear action of interior beam column joint and a role shear reinforcement according to their position.

  • Nonlinear feedback control scheme for reactive distillation column has been proposed. The proposed control scheme is derived in the framework of Nonlinear Internal Model Control. The product compositions and liquid and vapor flow rates in sections of the reactive distillation column are estimated from selected tray temperature measurements by an observer. The control scheme is applied to example reactive distillation column in which two products are produced in a single column and the reversible reaction A + B = C + D occurs. The relative volatilities are favorable for reactive distillation so that the reactants are intermediated boilers between the light product C and the heavy product D. Ideal physical properties, kinetics and ...

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate a effect of girder-column width ratio to PC wide girder-column joint. Three half scale subassemblies were representing a portion of a protype structure were design, constructed, and tested to failure. From the test result, girder-column width ratio play an important role in the improvement of strength and ductility.
