PURPOSE. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the color of a background substructure on the overall color of a zirconia-based all-ceramic crown. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty one posterior zirconia crowns were made for twenty subjects. Seven premolar crowns and six molar crowns were cemented onto abutments with metal post and core in the first and second group. In the third group, eight molar crowns were cemented onto abutments with a prefabricated post and composite core build-up. The color measurements of all-ceramic crowns were made before try-in, before and after cementation. A repeated measure ANOVA was used for a statistical analysis of a color change of all-ceramic crowns at ${\alpha}$=.05. Twenty four zirconia specimens, with different core thicknesses (0.4-1 mm) were also prepared to obtain the contrast ratio of zirconia materials after veneering. RESULTS. $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ values of all-ceramic crowns cemented either on a metal cast post and core or on a prefabricated post did not show significant changes (P>.05). However, the slight color changes of zirconia crowns were detected and represented by ${\Delta}E{^*}_{ab}$ values, ranging from 1.2 to 3.1. The contrast ratios of zirconia specimens were 0.92-0.95 after veneering. CONCLUSION. No significant differences were observed between the $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ values of zirconia crowns cemented either on a metal cast post and core or a prefabricated post and composite core. However, the color of a background substructure could affect the overall color of posterior zirconia restorations with clinically recommended core thickness according to ${\Delta}E{^*}_{ab}$ values.

The purpose of this study is was to compare the color stability of alkasite and other restorative materials commonly used in the field of pediatric dentistry and to study a color change in response to various beverages. Test specimens of glass ionomer, resin modified glass ionomer, alkasite restorative material, and composite resin were prepared, and the color stability was measured after thermocycling. Each specimen was also subdivided into 5 groups and submerged in PBS, coffee, green tea, coke, and orange juice to analyze the color change from the original CIE L*a*b* values after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days. Composite resin showed the best color stability after thermocycling, followed by alkasite restorative material, glass ionomer, and resin modified glass ionomer. Submerging in various beverages for 7 days resulted in color change in all test specimens, with alkasite restorative material showing less color change than glass ionomer but greater change than composite resin. Alkasite restorative material showed the greatest color change in coffee, followed by green tea and orange juice, but almost no change in coke and PBS even after 28 days of submersion.
This study evaluate the influence of food staining food and bleaching on the color (CIELAB) and reflectivity of two-way (anterior & posterior) composite resin and flowable composite resin. There were 6 immersion media: kimchi, red pepper paste, blueberry, tea, curry and distilled water. A total of 36 specimens ($11{\times}11{\times}2$ mm) were prepared and immersed in each immersion media for 8 days at $37^{\circ}C$. Their color and reflectivity measured with the spectrophotometer at baseline and every 24 hours. Data from the color change and reflectivity were collected and subjected to statistical analysis by ANOVA, ANCOVA and RM-ANOVA. Curry showed the highest influence on color change and blueberry on brightness (p<0.001) on both resins. Bleaching after polishing made color change more than polishing or bleaching independently on two-way (anterior & posterior) composite resin, but not on flowable composite resin. It was suggested cleaning the mouth after taking curry and blueberry be needed to maintain the original color of composite resin.
To get a satisfactory result in the composite resin restorations, it is necessary to choose correct shade. At present, most of the commercial composite resins are based on the Vita Lumin shade guide or Bioform shade guide, but color differences might be expected even using the same shade in various materials. In this study, five kinds of light-cured composite resins with A2 and B3 shade were used to measure and compare the color each other while one porcelain served as a control. All composite resins (Spectrum TPH (SP), VeridonFil- Photo (VE), Z100 (Z100), Charisma (CH), Prodigy (PRO)) were filled in to the metal mold (12 mm diameter, 2 mm depth), followed by compression, polymerization and polishing with wet sandpaper. The specimens of porcelain were fabricated by using the refractory mold for porcelain. After 24 hours, the specimens were placed on the spectrocolorimeter and spectral reflectance were measured under CIE illuminant D65. After measuring the values of $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ and ${\Delta}E^*$, following results were obtained; 1. The $L^*$, $a^*$ and $b^*$ values of both shade of porcelain specimens showed significantly higher than those of resin specimens(p<0.05). 2. In comparing the resin specimens of the A2 shade, differences were significant except $L^*$ values of SP-CH and PRO-VE, $a^*$ values of the VE-SP and $b^*$ values of the VE-Z100 and SP-PRO(p<0.05), 3. In comparing the resin specimens of the B3 shade, differences were significant except $L^*$ values of PRO-SP, $a^*$ values of the SP-PRO and Z100-VE and b* values of the PRO-SP(p<0.05). 4. In comparing the resin specimens of the A2 shade, color differences between materials (${\Delta}E^*$) showed the lowest value of 1.66, and the highest was 5.16. ${\Delta}E^*$ values of the materials of VE-PRO, CH-PRO, SP-PRO, SP-Z100 and SP-CH were lower than 3.3. 5. In comparing the resin specimens of the B3 shade, the lowest value of the ${\Delta}E^*$ was 0.57 and the highest was 5.92. ${\Delta}E^*$ values of Z100-CH and SP-PRO were lower than 3.3. The present study revealed there was perceptible color difference between materials even if they have the same designated shade based on Vita shade guide. The results of the present study suggested that it would be necessary to establish the reproducible and constant color specification system for an esthetic restoration.

The purpose of this study was to assess the background color-interceptive ability ana opacity of opaque shade composites (Universal composite, Filtek Z350, Charisma, Clearfil ST, Palpaque Estelite, Esthet-X, and Metafil Flo). Twenty four background specimens (diameter 5.5 mm, thickness 3.0 mm) with Root dentin Mustard (Bisco, Schaumburg, IL, USA) were made. The CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ value of background specimens was measured by a spectrophotometer (Spectrolino, GretagMacbeth, Regensdorf, Switzerland). Three specimens in every group were filled on the background specimens. The surface color of samples was measured by a spectrophotometer in 3.0 mm and every thickness to 0.5 mm while grinding. The color difference in the background color along with 3.0 mm specimen gauged the masking effect in each thickness while grinding and polishing. The opacity was calculated in 1 mm thick specimens. The opacity was in the decreasing order of Clearfil ST, Metafil Flo, Filtek Z350, Palpaque Estelite, Universal composite, Charisma, and Esthet-X (p < 0.05). As the thickness get reduced, $L^*$ value showed decreasing, $a^*$ increasing tendency. The surface color difference between pair of the 3.0 mm thick specimen and after grinding in same opaque resin was above 3.3 except Clearfil ST and Metafil Flo. The color difference (${\Delta}E^*$) between pair of background specimen and opaque resin built-up specimen showed more than 10.0 regardless kinds and thickness. The variance in opacity characteristics and color of the opaque composites is dependent upon manufacturer. When using the opaque resin, the optical properties of each material must be considered as well as cavity.
With the increasing need for high temporal resolution satellite imagery for monitoring land surfaces, this study evaluated the temporal resolution of the NDVI composites from Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) data. The GOCI is the first geostationary satellite sensor designed to provide continuous images over a $2,500{\times}2,500km^2$ area of the northeast Asian region with relatively high spatial resolution of 500 m. We used total 2,944 hourly images of the GOCI level 1B radiance data obtained during the one-year period from April 2011 to March 2012. A daily NDVI composite was produced by maximum value compositing of eight hourly images captured during day-time. Further NDVI composites were created with different compositing periods ranging from two to five days. The cloud coverage of each composite was estimated by the cloud detection method developed in study and then compared with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Aqua cloud product and 16-day NDVI composite. The GOCI NDVI composites showed much higher temporal resolution with less cloud coverage than the MODIS NDVI products. The average of cloud coverage for the five-day GOCI composites during the one year was only 2.5%, which is a significant improvement compared to the 8.9%~19.3% cloud coverage in the MODIS 16-day NDVI composites.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the characterization of composite resin inlay surface with silane and non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma treatment. Methods: Composite resin inlay was used as a specimen, which was treated by sandblasting + silane and sandblasting + plasma. The untreated specimens were assigned to the control group. Specimens were analyzed for surface roughness, color change, and chemical composition. Statistical analyses were performed using one-way ANOVA test (p<0.05). Results: The present findings showed that the roughness and color changes of the plasma-treated surface were significantly lower than those of the silane-treated surface. In addition, a change in the chemical composition was observed on the plasma-treated surface. Conclusions: Based on the results, non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma could be a potential tool for the cementation of composite resin inlay.

To make metalized wood composites of 10 different korean wood species, it was tested by Low temperature melting Bi-Sn alloy injection method at high temperature and high pressure condition. Metalized wood composite of each wood species had light ash color, but still maintained its own natural wood grain and wood figures. It was evaluated on coating properties. Furthermore, it also was check on effect of coating as like a changes of main color, wood grain and wood figures. The results of test were following as; a coating properties as like a cold resistance, heat resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, durability of abrasion, and cross-cut test was proper on the conditions of the KS standard. And, In aspect of color changes, the metalized wood composites of 10 different korean wood species had a light ash color, but still maintained its own natural wood grain and wood figures. Also, the more weight per gain of alloy is, the more grey background of metalized wood composite is.
Tooth colored resin restorative materials are widely used in anterior teeth restorations. The color instability of resin was the main cause of failure in resin restorations. The purpose of this study was to investigate color stability and microhardness of serval visible light curing resins. Colorimetric measurements(Tokyo Denshoku Co., Japan) and microhardness tests(Matusuzawa, MXT 70, Japan) were made on six composite resins before and after controlled immersion treatments. The six composite resins were BIS - FILM(BISCO, USA), Durafill(Kulzer, Germany), Helioprogess(VIVADENT, Germany), Palfique(TOKUYAMA SODA, Japan), Silux(3M, USA), Photoclearfil(KURARAY, Japen). Six light curing resins showed significant color change after 2 weeks. Palfique exhibited the hightest $dE^*$ values and Helio progress presented the lowest $dE^*$ values. Photoclearfil showed the highest microhardness value. Durafill and Helio progress showed lower microhardness values. Microhardness values were decreased after 8 weeks in Bisfil, Palfique light, and Photoclearfil.
This study finds surface color and functions of natural dyeing from Chamaecyparis obtusa leaves which help cure skin problems such as atopic dermatitis. This study also seeks to find dyeing properties and functions of natural colorants derived from Chamaecyparis obtusa and Rubia tinctorum on silk. Dyeing properties and functions are compared between silks dyed with Chamaecyparis obtusa and silks composite-dyed with Chamaecyparis obtusa and Rubia tinctorum. The comparison examines the feasibility of developing healthy and high functional fabrics and wellness of fashion merchandises. Silk dyeing with Chamaecyparis obtuse leaves yields yellow and double coloring from Chamaecyparis obtusa; however, Rubia tinctorum yields yellow/red on silks. Silks dyed with Chamaecyparis obtusa and silks composite-dyed with Chamaecyparis obtusa and Rubia tinctorum show a high level on dry cleaning, ultraviolet protection and deodorization. Especially, the dyed silks from leaves of Chamaecyparis obtusa show a 99.7% antimicrobial effect against staphylococcus aureus ATCC 653B. Silks composite-dyed with Chamaecyparis obtusa and Rubia tinctorum are better known for medicinal herb for dermatitis, and natural colorant, Rubia tinctorum does not improve significantly functions compared with silks dyed with Chamaecyparis obtusa. However, the dyeing properties improve by composite dyeing. This implies that ways to maximize effects of tie-dyeing technique could be developed.
