The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hue, tone, and necktie width on men's wear image. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimulus and response scales. The stimuli were 12 color pictures, in which the hue(red, blue), tone(lt-shirt/dk-tie, dk-shirt/lt-tie), and necktie width(narrow, medium, width) were manipulated. The 7-point scale was used for evaluation of men's wear image. The subjects of this research were 120 female college students living in Seoul, Gwangju, Jinju, and Masan. The investigation was carried out at April-May 2009. The data were analyzed by using SPSS program. Analysis methods were ANOVA and Duncan-test. The results of this study were as follows.; The analyses of men's wear image according to hue, tone, and necktie width revealed that the concerned factors are four characteristic dimensions of ability-elegance, attractiveness, appeal-activity, and warmness. Hue showed an independent effect on ability-elegance, appeal-activity, and warmness. Tone showed an independent effect on warmness. Necktie width showed an independent effect on appeal-activity. In addition, interaction effects of hue and tone on ability-elegance were found. Interaction effects of hue and necktie width on ability-elegance and attractiveness were found.
Since the beginning of time people had been using color to mark territory and decorate their surroundings. Color was taken for granted today as an intrinsic part of every waking moment. In modern age, color education was very important curriculum of art and design. In general, color expressed by hue, value and chroma but used the tone on the design spot, therefore the tone concept education was very important to color education. In this study I planned the usable "Systematic Color Coordinate System 180" for general color education on hue and tone color system and manufactured the color papers, color chart and color code based on the system. "Systematic Color Coordinate System 180" was attached the Munsell notation and common color names which could reappear the colors when needed.
The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of four clothing cues(hue, tone, skirt width, and skirt length of dress) on female impressions. The experimental materials developed for this study are a set of stimuli and response scales. The Stimuli are 40 color pictures manipulated with four clothing cues by drawing. The 7-point scale designed for visual evaluation of female impression formation includes 29 bipolar adjectives. The subjects were 240 undergraduate female students in Jinju city. The results of this study are as follow: As analyzing the impression of the female figure by the hue, tone, skirt width, and length, five factors including ability activity, elegance, attractiveness, concentration of attention, and tenderness were identified. Among these factors, ability activity and elegance were proved to be more important. Each impression of hue and tone with skirt width length have significant effects on concentration of attention, and tenderness. We can express various impressions by diversifying hue and tone. Each impression of skirt width length with hue and tone have significant effects on ability activity and elegance.

The results of this study are as follow: As analyzing the impression of female figure by the hue, tone, skirt width, and length, five factors including ability. activity, elegance, attractiveness, concentration of attention, and tenderness were identified. Among these factors, ability·activity and elegance were proved to be more important. Some interaction effects of clothing cues were found. The combination of skirt width and tone had significant effects on ability. activity. Hue and tone of dress had significant effects on concentration of attention and tenderness. Skirt width and hue, and skirt length and hue had significant effects on the impression of attractiveness. Also skirt length and hue significant effects on concentration of attention.
The purpose of this study is to classify fashion lifestyle types for color planning and to propose color planning of spring & summer by fashion lifestyle by analyzing preferred colors by fashion lifestyle type. The survey was conducted on women between the ages of 30 and 59 using a separately prepared questionnaire and color sample table and also through one-on-one interviews. The results of this study are as follows. First, the participants' fashion lifestyles were divided into three categories: information individuality type, display type, and practicality type. Second, regarding basic colors: the basic color consistently used for a long time, it was found that there were significant differences in preferred hue and tone according to the types of fashion lifestyles. Specifically, the most preferred hue of all the fashion lifestyle types was achromatic color N and the most preferred tone was V. Third, regarding color trends: the trendy color occupying a market transiently, there were significant differences in preferred hue and preferred tone according to the types of fashion lifestyle. The most preferred hue of all the fashion lifestyle types was B. The most preferred tone of the information individuality type and the display type was V, and that of the practicality type was B. The study found that, in color planning, fashion lifestyles can function as an effective tool to subdivide consumers. Based on the empirical results of this study, I propose that color planning should be based on the type of fashion lifestyle.

This study was aimed to analyze color characteristics of silk fabrics dyed with a variety of commercial natural dyes focusing on hue/tone system. Using eleven different natural dyes, single and sequential dyeing were performed under a variety of conditions of dye bath concentration, mordanting, and dyeing sequences. Color characteristics of dyed silk fabrics were investigated by Munsell's color notation of H V/C and PCCS (Practical Color Coordination System) tones. As results, most of yellowish natural dyes as principal shades in natural dyeing showed Y or YR for hue families while d, ltg, and g for tone, which agrees with colors frequently used in comtemporary apparel industries. As for single dyeing, some hues like R, RP, G, GY, and BG were found to have their own tones owing to the used natural dyes. For varying hues in natural dyeing, sequential dyeing is useful in that GY, G, and BG rarely appeared in single dyeing were frequently shown in sequential dyeing by combination of some dyes. In the other hands, mordanting may be employed for tone variation in that aluminum seemed to contribute to light and dull tones, copper to dull, and ferrum to garyish and dark ones. These results can be helpful to design colors for fashion fields by natural dyeing.
The purpose of this study is to classify the characteristics of color communication tools and the color range applied in the Korean fashion industry. To collect the color sample and related references, a questionnaire was distributed during the time period, December, 1995 to June, 1996. From the responses, 2641 color samples used by 109 domestic brands, from 1993 spring/summer to 1996 spring/summer, were collected and analyzed. The data was measured by L*a*b*, and the H V/C formula found in the Munsell notation was used to calculate the data. To classify the color range served for the fashion industry, the distribution of colors are analyzed by difference of season and fabric. The results of this study are as follows : 1. Dominant colors in the Korean fashion industry are Red, Yellow-red, Yellow, purple-blue and low chromatic range colors. 2. While high value colors, such as pale, light greyish, light, dull, dark and vivid tone colors, are dominant in the spring/summer season, low value colors, such as greyish, dark greyish. and deep tone colors and warm colors such as Red, Yellow-red, are prevalent in the fall/winter season. 3. The number of colors commonly used for color planning is less than 20 colors, and both hue and tone are considered important when making color selections. 4. All brands take consumers' color preferences into consideration for color planning, and most of them also take color trends into account. 5. Hue and tone color characteristics analyzed by types of fabrics show more seasonal influence than the fabric itself.

The 5-point scale was used to evaluate children's clothing preferences. Data were obtained from 300 boys and 300 girls living in Seoul, Busan, Jinju, and Changwon in April 2010. For data analysis, ANOVA and Duncan-test were used by using SPSS program. Results of this study were as follows. Tone of character had an independent effect on children's clothing preference. Interaction effects of gender and hue of the character were found. Interaction effects of gender and tone of the character were found. Interaction effects of type and tone of the character were found.
This study analyzed the clothing color preferences of elementary students and the colors of clothes actually worn at school in terms of hue and tone. The sample consisted of 385 students enrolled at a public elementary school in Seoul. In this study, 120 color cards were used to guide the hue and tone. Descriptive statistics and chi-square analysis were used to analyze the data. The results were as follows. First, the most preferred clothing colors were achromatic, purple blue, red, and blue, while the most preferred tones were vivid, and pale. Second, the largest percentage of top colors worn at school were achromatic and vivid tones, while the largest percentage of bottom colors at school were achromatic and dark tones. Third, elementary boys preferred vivid and strong tones, while girls preferred pale and vivid tones. Fourth, students at higher grades preferred deeper and darker tones compared with students in lower grades.
In recent studies on tone reproduction with the objective of reproducing natural looking colors in digital images, an integrated multi-scale retinex (IMSR) has produced great naturalness in the resulting images. Most methods, including IMSR, work in RGB or quasi-RGB color spaces. As such, this produces hue distortion from the perspective of the human visual system. Accordingly, this paper proposes the hue preserved multi-scale Retinex (HPMSR) method to obtain a high contrast and naturalness. The proposed method enhanced the $L^*$ and saturation values in CIELAB color space. As a result, the visibility in dark shadows in the resulting images was improved.
