통합관리 프로그램이 아급성 뇌졸중 환자의 운동기능, 인지기능, 우울에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of an Integrated Management Program on Physical Function, Cognitive Function, and Depression in Patients with Subacute stroke)

  • Purpose : This study examined the effects of an integrated management program on physical function, cognitive function, and depression in patients with subacute stroke. Methods : A nonequivalent control group design was adopted. The participants were assigned to either the experimental group (n=20) or control group (n=23). The experimental group received an 8-week integrated management program and standard rehabilitation service (i.e., physical therapy and occupational therapy), while the control group received the standard rehabilitation service only. Physical function was measured as gait speed and balance ability using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Cognitive function was measured with neuro-behavioral cognitive status examination (NCSE), and depression was measured using the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). Repeated measure ANOVA was used to determine changes in physical function, cognitive function, and depression over 8-weeks. Results : The interaction between group and time was significant, indicating that the experimental group showed improvement in gait speed, balance ability, cognitive function (linguistic ability, linguistic memory, reasoning), and a decrease in depression compared to the control group. Conclusion : These results indicate that the integrated management program developed herein was beneficial in restoring physical function, cognitive function, and depression in subacute stroke patients.

아동의 초등학교 입학연령과 성에 따른 인지적.사회적 능력 (The Effects of Children's Elementary School Entance Age and Sex on Cognitive and Social Abilities)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of children's elementary school entrance age and sex on cognitive and social abilities. The subjects were 80 the same number was slected by elementary school entrance age(5-year and 6-year) and sex. Their cognitive and social abilities were measured by Intelligence Maturity Test and Revised Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales. The data were statistically analyzed including descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis of variance. The results were as follows: 1) 6-year-old children had higher perceptive ability of sameness and calculation ability than 5-year-old children. Girls also had higher IQ and language concept than boys, 2) 6-year-old children's communication socialization and total social ability were higher than those of 5-year old children Girls' communication and total social ability were higher than those of boys. The implication was that it would be important to consider children's social ability if their entrance age were decided. In addition Early Entrance to Elementary School system should be reconsidered in the point of childer's developmental adaptation.

미숙아로 출생한 학령전기 아동의 인지능력과 영향요인 (Cognitive Ability and Related Factors in Preschoolers Born Prematurely)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate cognitive ability in preschoolers born prematurely and to investigate related factors. Methods: A prospective, longitudinal study was conducted with 64 children at 5-6 years of corrected age (CA) (second follow-up) among 76 children who had been assessed at 2.0~3.5 years of CA (first follow-up) from a sample of 343 preterm infants born from 2008 to 2010. To evaluate each child's cognitive ability, during a home visit, we used the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children-II (KABC-II) at the second follow-up. To explore factors related to cognitive ability, we measured children's hemoglobin level at the second follow-up and used the data collected in our previous study, including the Bayley Scale of Infant Development-II (BSID-II) at the first follow-up. Results: The mean total KABC-II quotient was $117.0{\pm}14.4$. The 5-minute Apgar score (${\beta}=.29$, p=.006), hemoglobin level (${\beta}=.22$, p=.032), and the mental development index quotient of the BSID-II (${\beta}=.51$, p<.001) were statistically significant predictors of the KABC-II quotient in multiple linear regression analysis. Conclusion: The cognitive function of young children born prematurely was influenced by early neurodevelopment and factors reflecting their health status, such as anemia and a low 5-minute Apgar score.

만성 뇌졸중 환자의 트레드밀 훈련에서 인지적 이중과제훈련이 보행 능력에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Cognitive Dual Task Training on Walking Ability in Treadmill Training with Chronic Stroke Patients)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of treadmill training and cognitive task with in the course of treadmill training at the same time with chronic stroke patients. Methods : Fourteen chronic stroke patients participated. Participants were randomly assigned to the control and experimental group(7 experimental, 7 control). All of participants were in-patients at local hospital and had been receiving a traditional rehabilitation program, five days a week. The both groups have undergone 4weeks. The experimental group trained in treadmill and cognitive task at the same time, but control group trained only treadmill. 10m walking test, Timed Up & Go (TUG) test and 6 Minutes walking(6M walking) test to measure the walking speed, dynamic balance and waling endurance ability were carried out before and after the training. Results : The result of the study were as follow:10m walking test were significantly increased both groups(p<.01), but not significant between groups(p>.05). TUG test were significantly increased both groups(p<.001) and between groups(p<.01). 6M walking test were significantly increased both groups(p<.001), but not significant between groups(p>.05). Conclusion : Ahead of return to the community to patients with stroke, cognitive task with in the course of treadmill training at the same time was effective in improving the dynamic balance ability.

Cognitive and Emotional Empathy in Young Adolescents: an fMRI Study

  • Objectives: We investigated the differences in cognitive and emotional empathic ability between adolescents and adults, and the differences of the brain activation during cognitive and emotional empathy tasks. Methods: Adolescents (aged 13-15 years, n=14) and adults (aged 19-29 years, n=17) completed a range of empathic ability questionnaires and were scanned functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during both cognitive and emotional empathy task. Differences in empathic ability and brain activation between the groups were analyzed. Results: Both cognitive and emotional empathic ability were significantly lower in the adolescent compared to the adult group. Comparing the adolescent to the adult group showed that brain activation was significantly greater in the right transverse temporal gyrus (BA 41), right insula (BA 13), right superior parietal lobule (BA 7), right precentral gyrus (BA 4), and right thalamus whilst performing emotional empathy tasks. No brain regions showed significantly greater activation in the adolescent compared to the adult group while performing cognitive empathy task. In the adolescent group, scores of the Fantasy Subscale in the Interpersonal Reactivity Index, which reflects cognitive empathic ability, negatively correlated with activity of right superior parietal lobule during emotional empathic situations (r=-0.739, p=0.006). Conclusion: These results strongly suggest that adolescents possess lower cognitive and emotional empathic abilities than adults do and require compensatory hyperactivation of the brain regions associated with emotional empathy or embodiment in emotional empathic situation. Compensatory hyperactivation in the emotional empathy-related brain areas among adolescents are likely associated with their lower cognitive empathic ability.

노인 또는 경증 뇌질환 환자들의 운동 및 인지재활에 도움이 될 수 있는 게임형 재활 시스템 (A game-type rehabilitation system that can be helpful for exercise and cognitive rehabilitation for the elderly or patients with mild brain disease)

  • 노인과 경증 뇌질환(치매 및 뇌졸중 등) 환자들 중 일정 정도의 자력 행동 능력과 인지 능력이 있는 경우에는 운동과 인지 재활을 병행해야만 하는 경우가 많다. 그러나 기존의 재활 시스템은 대부분 운동 또는 인지 재활로 분리 또는 특화 되어 있는 경우가 많아서 두 가지 모두를 연계하는 형태에 대한 필요성이 있다고 생각된다. 본 논문에서는 ICT 기술의 하나인 CAN 통신 프로토콜을 이용하여 운동과 인지 재활을 병행할 수 있도록 하는 게임형 재활시스템을 제안하고자 한다. 이 시스템은 CAN BUS 구조를 이용하여 재활 시스템을 구성하는 각각의 개별 모듈들을 다양한 형태로 분리 및 결합 사용이 가능하도록 한다. 환자(또는 노인)의 인지 능력과 운동 능력의 정도에 따라 다양한 형태의 재활 환경을 구현할 수 있음을 보이고자 제안된 시스템의 프로토 타입을 실제로 제작하였다. 아울러 이 시스템을 이용한 몇 가지 실험을 통하여 여러 환경에 적용 가능한 운동/인지 병행 재활의 구현 가능성을 보이고 있다.

초등학교 아동의 과학 창의적 문제 해결과 인지 전략과의 관계 (The Relationship between Creative Problem Solving in Science and Cognitive Strategies in Elementary School Students)

  • This study investigated the relationship between elementary school students' creative problem solving skills in terms of science and cognitive strategies. Creative problem solving in science was measured by 4 variables; appropriateness, scientific ability, concreteness, and originality. Cognitive strategies were measured by 6 variables; surface(rehearsal), deep(elaboration and organization), and metacognitive strategies(planning, monitoring, and regulating). The KEDI Creative Problems Solving Test in Science(Cho et al., 1997) and the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire(Pintrich & DeGroot, 1990) were administered to 72 subjects. Data were analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis. Our findings indicated a positive correlation between creative problem solving in science and cognitive strategies. The surface cognitive strategy (rehearsal) positively predicted the total score, the scientific ability's score, the concrete score, and the original score of creative problem solving in science. The deep cognitive strategy(organization) positively predicted the appropriate score and the metacognitive strategy(planning) positively predicted the original score of scientific creative problem solving skills.

아동인지능력향상서비스가 만 3-6세 아동의 언어능력 발달에 미치는 영향 : 단기효과성 평가 연구 (The Effect of an Improvement Service for Child Cognitive Ability Aimed at the Development of linguistic Ability in Children between the Ages of 3-6 Years : An Evaluation for Short-term Effectiveness)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the short term effectiveness of a cognitive ability improvement service for children, which is one of the 'Investment activities for Local Community Services' conducted by the Ministry for Health and Welfare. Results indicate that the longer the period of using cognitive improvement services for children, the more positively significant influence there is on their language abilities in terms of comprehension, expression, and reading-writing. Furthermore, these influences are stronger in children of low-income families than in children from higher income families. Certainly, this type of service improves infants' language abilities regardless of the income level of their families.

유아의 인지능력, 어머니의 양육행동, 어머니와 교사에 대한 애착이 유아의 만족지연능력에 미치는 영향 (The Impact of Preschoolers' Cognitive Ability, Parenting Behavior, and Attachment to their Mothers and Teachers on Preschoolers' Ability of Delay of Gratification)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of preschoolers' cognitive ability, parenting behavior, and attachment to their mothers and teachers on delay of gratification of preschoolers. The participants of this study were 116 mothers and their 15 teachers of 3-6 year olds from 2 day-care centers in Seoul. T-test, F-test, Correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis were used for data analysis. First, the result of this study showed that preschoolers' delay of gratification by cognitive ability was significant to only motor intelligence. Second, preschoolers' delay of gratification showed positive correlation with warm-acceptance of parenting. Third, preschoolers' delay of gratification by attachment to their mothers was statistically significant, but it was not significant to their teachers. Fourth, the effect of preschoolers' intelligence, parenting behavior, and attachment to their mothers and teachers on delay of gratification was statistically significant to mothers' warm-acceptance($\beta$=.24, p<.05) and was negatively significant to mothers' permissiveness(.$\beta$=-.35, p<.001).

노인의 균형유지 능력에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors Related to Balance Ability in Healthy Elderly)

  • The purposes of this study were to ascertain differences of the sensory system, central processing system, effector system, and balance ability according to general characteristics (sex, fall experience, and age), and to identify the contributions of the sensory, central processing, and effector system to balance ability in 83 healthy elderly subjects. The subjects were elderly (over 60 years) who live in Wonju City. All subjects participated in six tests (position sense test, visual acuity, vestibular stepping test, Mini-Mental Status Exam-Korea, strength of dorsiflexors, and Berg Balance Test). Collected data were analyzed by the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows: 1. The results of the six tests according to sex showed that vestibular function was significantly better in women than in men. But visual acuity, cognitive function, strength of dorsiflexors, and balance ability were significantly better in men than in women (p<0.05). 2. There were no significant differences in position sense, visual acuity, vestibular function, cognitive function, strength of dorsiflexors, and balance ability between fallers and non-fallers (p>0.05). 3. However, the results of the six tests according to age (group A: 60-69 years, group B: 70-79 years, group C: 80-89 years) showed significant differences in five tests. In the Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, position sense, visual acuity, and cognitive function showed significantly different results between in group A and group C: the strength of the dorsiflexors was significantly different between in group A and group B, and balance ability was significantly different between in group A and group C, and between in group B and group C (p<0.05). 4. Cognitive function and position sense were positively associated with balance ability. Their power of explanation regarding balance ability was 38% (p<0.05). These results suggest that cognitive function and position sense play an important role in balance ability. This would seem to suggest that programs for evaluation or improvement of elderly's balance ability in the elderly should consider cognitive function and position sense.
