  • Let $\mathbb{A}=\mathbb{F}_q$[T] be the polynomial ring over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$[T] and K=$\mathbb{F}_q$(T) its field of fractions. Let ${\ell}$ be a fixed prime divisor of q-1. Let J be a finite set of monic irreducible polynomials $P{\in}{\mathbb{A}}$ with deg $P{\equiv}0$ (mod ${\ell})$. In this paper we define the group $C_K$ of circular units in K=k$(\{\sqrt[{\ell}]P\;:\;P{\in}J\})$ in the sense of Kucera [4] and compute the index of $C_K$ in the full unit group $O^*_K$.

  • Average heat transfer coefficients and friction coefficients have been measured from staggered short pin-fin arrays to investigate the effect of fin shapes. Flow entering into the test section is a fully developed duct flow and the Reynolds number ranges from 5,000 to 25,000 based on fin diameter and average approaching velocity. The fin has three different shapes; uniform-diameter circular fin, two stepped-diameter circular fins. Average heat transfer rates change slightly with the fin shapes. However, friction loss(pressure loss) for the stepped-diameter fins is significantly less than that for the uniform-diameter fin. This results indicate that the stepped-diameter fin arrays in duct flow enhance heat transfer rates largely based on unit pumping power.

  • A Gerotor hydraulic motor is a planar mechanism consisting of a pair of rotors one of which encloses another rotor. The motion of the inner-rotor relative to the outer-rotor is produced by the pressure difference between the adjacent chambers. A design method of inner-rotor tooth profile using unit tangential vectors is presented in this work. Based on the relationships derived, the influence of the eccentricity of inner-rotor and the radius of circular arc tooth on the flow rate, torque and curvatures were investigated. It was shown that the flow rate and mean torque is proportional to eccentricity, but inversely proportional to the radius of circular arc teeth. Also, the maximum value of the equivalent curvature is increased as the eccentricity and the radius of circular arc teeth increased.

  • Forced vibration of a thin circular ring with a concentrated harmonic force is analyzed when the ring is free and has only the in-plane motion. Using the unit doublet function for external force, the governing equation is obtained and is solved by the use of Laplace transform. The exact solutions of displacement components and bending moment are obtained. In order to verify the solutions of analysis, finite element analysis is performed and the results shows good agreement. Then, frequency response curves for displacement and bending moment are obtained. In deriving the governing equations and the solutions, nondimensional parameter of the exciting frequency and the magnitude of exciting force are extracted. As the displacement components are obtained, the remaining bending strain, slope, curvature, shear force, etc. can also be derived. With the results of this work, the responses of a free ring excited on multiple points with different frequencies can also be obtained easily by superposition.

  • In this paper, the crushing tests of circular tubes under axial impact loading are conducted to investigate the energy absorption abilities. A cross head with 18kg launched by the compressed air collides against circular tubes. Circular tubes used for this experiment are Al and CFRP laminates, which have 8 ply with $15^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$. The absorbed energy unit mass and volume of the CFRP specimen with $15^{\circ}$ are higher than those of aluminum specimen. CFRP specimen having small stacking angle have better energy absorption abilities than that of large stacking angle.

  • Circular consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system when the failure of component is dependent is studied. We assume that the failure of a component in the system increase the failure rate of the survivor which is working just before the failed component. In this case, a mean time to failure (MTTF), a average failure number of the system, and the expected cost per unit time are obtained. Then the minimum number of consecutive failed components to cause system failure to minimize the expected cost per unit time is determined as searching paths to system failure. And various numerical examples are studied.

  • It is well-known that rectangular bulk-Si sensors prepared by etch or epi etch-stop micromachining technology are already in practical use today, but the conventional bulk-Si sensor shows some drawbacks such as large chip size and limited applications as silicon sensor device is to be miniaturized. We consider a circular-shape SOI(Silicon-On-Insulator) micro-cavity technology to facilitate multiple sensors on very small chip, to make device easier to package than conventional sensor like pressure sensor and to provide very high over-pressure capability. This paper demonstrates the cross-functional results for stress analyses(targeting $5{\mu}m$ deflection and 100MPa stress as maximum at various applicable pressure ranges), for finding permissible diaphragm dimension by output sensitivity, and piezoresistive sensor theory from two-type SOI structures where the double SOI structure shows the most feasible deflection and small stress at various ambient pressures. Those results can be compared with the ones of circular-shape bulk-Si based sensor$^{[17]}. The SOI micro-cavity formed the sensors is promising to integrate with calibration, gain stage and controller unit plus high current/high voltage CMOS drivers onto monolithic chip.

  • The wave power, extracted from a circular array of small power buoys, is investigated under the potential theory. It is assumed that the buoy's radius, the draft, and the separation distance are much smaller than the water depth, the wave length, and the radius of a circular deployment area. The boundary value problem involving the macro-scale boundary condition on the mean surface covered by buoys is solved using the eigenfunction expansion method. The capture width, which is defined as the ratio of the extracted power to the wave power per unit length of the incident wave crest, is assessed for various combinations of packing ratio, radius of a circular array, and PTO damping coefficient. It is found that the circular array deployment is more effective in the viewpoint of efficiency than the single large buoy of the same total displaced volume.

  • Complete prediction of second order permeability tensor for three dimensional circular braided preform is critical to understand the resin transfer molding process of composites. The permeability can be predicted by considering resin flow through the multi-axial fiber structure. In this study, permeability tensor for a 3-D circular braided preform is calculated by solving a boundary problem of a periodic unit cell. Flow field through the unit cell is obtained by using a 3-D finite volume method (FVM) and Darcy's law is utilized to obtain permeability tensor. Flow analysis for two cases that a fiber tow is regarded as impermeable solid and permeable porous medium is carried out respectively. It is found that the flow within the intra-tow region of the braided preform is negligible if inter-tow porosity is relatively high but the flow through the tow must be considered when the porosity is low. To avoid checkerboard pressure field and improve the efficiency of numerical computation, a new interpolation function for velocity variation is proposed on the basis of analytic solutions. Permeability of the braided preform is measured through a radial flow experiment and compared with the permeability predicted numerically.

  • Due to the advantageous mechanical properties of the fiber reinforced polymeric plastics(FRP), their application in the construction industries is ever increasing trend, as a substitute of structural steel which is highly vulnerable under hazardous environmental conditions (i.e., corrosion, humidity, etc.). In this study, hybrid FRP-concrete composite pile (HCFFT) connection is suggested. The HCFFT is consisted of pultruded FRP unit module, filament wound FRP which is in the outside of mandrel composed of circular shaped assembly of pultruded FRP unit modules, and concrete which is casted inside of the circular tube shaped hybrid FRP pile. Therefore, pultruded FRP can increase the flexural load carrying capacity, filament wound FRP and concrete filled inside can increase axial load carrying capacity. In the study, connection capacity of HCFFT(small and mid size) is investigated throughout experiments and finite element method. From the results of experiments, we suggested the connection methods about HCFFT pile connection.
