Several reports describe antimicrobial-resistance transfer among children and the community in outbreak situations, but transfer between a child and a caregiver has not been examined in child care facilities under normal circumstances. We investigated the transfer of antimicrobial-resistance genes, resistant bacteria, or both among healthy children and teachers. From 2007 to 2009, 104 Escherichia coli isolates were obtained from four teachers and 38 children in a child care center. Twenty-six cephem-resistant isolates were obtained from children in 2007 and 2008. In 2009, cephem-resistant isolates were detected in children as well as a teacher. Nalidixic acid-resistant isolates from the same teacher for 3 years showed low similarity (<50%) to each other. However, an isolate from a teacher in 2007 and another from a child in 2008 showed high similarity (87%). Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis revealed 100% similarity for four isolates in 2007 and one isolate in 2008, and also similarity among seven isolates carrying the virulence gene (CNF1). This study yielded the following findings: (1) a gene for extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase was transferred from a child to other children and a teacher; (2) a nalidixic acid-resistant isolate was transferred from a teacher to a child; and (3) a virulent bacterium was transferred between children.
The purpose of this study was to examine what parents really want to daycare center and how much they are satisfied with the daycare service they use. This study also explored how exactly daycare teachers recognize the parental needs and satisfaction on daycare service. One hundred and seventy one parents who send their child to a daycare center in Seoul, and one hundred and thirty five teachers from the same daycare centers participated in this study. Parents were asked about their needs and expectation on daycare service and the degree of satisfaction on the daycare center (including educational facilities, teacher's role, specific programs, etc.). Teachers provided answers about their understanding on what the parents want and how much parents are satisfied with their daycare center. Results revealed that parents are generally satisfied with the daycare service such as educational programs and educational facilities and teachers' role conducting. However, some parent-teacher differences were found in their perception on the levels and domains of parental expectation and satisfaction with daycare service. The parent-teacher differences would give very practical tips for teachers, who plan and conduct everyday daycare programs and actually interact with children in the setting for better daycare service.

The daily hassles of 5-year-old children were explored and analyzed as microsystems in order to discover the relative importance of ecological factors in children's daily hassles. The subjects were 322 children, their mothers and 34 teachers recruited from 5 kindergartens and 15 child-care centers in Seoul and Kyonggido province. Children were interviewed individually with pictures showing certain stressful situations. Questionnaires were administered to mothers and teachers. The findings indicated that the microsystem variables of Kindergartens and child-care centers were the most significant factors explaining children's daily hassles. Therefore, it was suggested that the policies and regulations on child-care facilities be carefully developed and strictly regulated.

This study aims to identify the concept of a family-friendly neighborhood environment and to present the findings to influence the goals of and directions for future policy. This qualitative research study was conducted based on interviews with six leaders in the child-care community residing in Jeju and Seogwipo, two cities in South Korea. First, the findings demonstrated that the subjects recognized the concept of family-friendly neighborhood environments as "environments in which communication is possible with all neighbors, neighbors take care of children, and all families enjoy neighborhood life." Second, family-friendly neighborhood environments were characterized as being safe, nature-friendly, and accessible. Third, participants identified family leisure cultural facilities and multipurpose facilities as the spaces that characterize family-friendly neighborhood environments. Lastly, the model of family-friendly neighborhoods needs to be composed of the following three factors: residence, leisure, and economy.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of case management in child welfare facilities to determine what the inhibiting factors as well as complementary factors are. For this purpose, data from 181 workers in community children's centers and 96 workers in child protection agencies and foster care centers were analyzed, the analyzed by using SPSS 21.0 program. In the case of community children's center interpersonal skills, case management guidelines, super vision, and network utilization were the influential factors while in other child welfare facilities, personal inhibitory factors, social welfare work experience, case management experience, and network utilization were the affecting factors. The implications reveal that social welfare practice should enhance the interpersonal skills of the workers, strengthen the supervision system, and provide a clear case management guideline. It is also important to set up a network of all local child welfare facilities and strengthen cooperation and mutual support among the institutions within the network.
In most child-care facilities, homeroom teachers take the responsibilities for safety education, which has been conducted in class hours on a regular basis. It was found that most homeroom teachers are lacking in teacher training opportunities, and the younger they are, the less training experience they get. Teachers with fewer teaching careers had a greater interest in safety education and training courses. In addition, homeroom teachers have been utilizing monthly toddler magazines as a method to acquire knowledges for safety education and prevention of safety accidents. The safety accidents which have most frequently occurred in care-care facilities turned out to be stumble and tear, and infants aged 3 years or younger were found to be easily exposed to the safety accidents mainly due to the frolic between peers during the free-choice activity time. The homeroom teachers recognized only traffic safety education among the range of safety training courses, which varied depending on teaching career such as traffic safety education and indoor/outdoor safety environment training, etc. In addition, it turned out that the safety training methods were limited to the utilization of discussion techniques, role-playing, description and demonstration.
Objectives: The present study was carried out to develop and evaluate comprehensive health care program to prevent infectious disease and promote health in child-care centers by Doctor of Korean medicine. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design study was conducted on 568 children and 85 child care teacher at 12 child care facilities for 12 weeks from July to October 2012. The program was consist of management, education, screening under concepts of traditional preventive medicine, Yangsaeng and Chimibyeong. Children's medical utilization due to infectious disease and attendance means functional status were measured by reports from parents. The Difference in difference(DID) estimator was applied data analysis, and added Zero-inflated negative binomial regression model. Also, attitudes on the infection of teacher was measured and analyzed through t-test. Results: After the intervention, the total medical utilization due to infectious disease decreased, but not significantly. Total absence, early leave and lateness decreased significantly. But, Attitude on the infection of child care teacher was not changed. The parent's satisfaction showed positive overall. Conclusions: The intervention program may be effective in preventing infectious disease and managing health in child-care center partially. To measure long-term effect, long-term study improved is requested.
A structured questionnaire was distributed to families using some of the ten specialized caring facilities throughout Gyeongbuk Province. Of the 294 responses, 242 were usable. Results showed that (1) facilities were most used by families of children with autism (31.3%) and by families with severely handicapped children (96.3%). (2) Suggestions for improving facilities, included physical-, performance-, and language-therapies (60%) and teachers with expertise in special education (47.8%).(3) More than half of the respondents were satisfied with the degree of care. (4) Satisfaction with degree of caring services varied with academic background of mothers, mothers' job status, degree of child's disability, length of usage, average expenditure for hospital visits, and burden to the family.
In most of the child-care facility, Children's photos, newsletters, menu, training plans, etc. made in print and is delivered through the child's bag. This method does not allow the parents to check their kids' condition and the regarding information. To solve these problems, parents using internet-based CCTV monitoring, or a call to teachers and the child's condition is unknown. In reality, however, is difficult. Therefore, to enable active participation in care SNS-based web integration system is to implement. Through the implementation of this system, the cause of the problem does not completely eliminate but a large portion will be eliminated.
