The severe damage induced by the important viruses of Rice stripe virus (RSV), Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV), Melon necrotic spot virus (MNSV), Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) and Tomato bushy stunt virus (TBSV) was described on major crops in Korea. In 2007, the plot incidence rate of RSV was 100% on the precocious rice cultivars at the Western coastal provinces of Gyeonggido, Chungcheongnamdo, Jellabugdo and Jellanamdo, and Jejudo. RSV occurred in 2,441 ha with incidence rate of 70% over at 5 areas of Seocheon, Seosan, Boryung, Hongsung and Buyou in Chungcheongnamdo. At 4 areas of Buan, Gimje, Gunsan and Gochang in Jellabukdo, RSV occurred in 2.016 ha. CGMMV occurred on watermelon in 4.6 ha at Cheongyang area, and its outbreak was also 890 ha on oriental melon for 120 farmers with the incidence area of 23% against total cultivation areas of Seongju. MNSV was recorded firstly on watermelon in 2006 at Andong and it spread to 3 areas of Hapcheon, Gochang and Yanggu. TSWV occurred firstly at Danggin in Chungcheongnamdo in 2005. TSWV in 2006 spread to 6 areas; Taian, Hongsung and Seosan in Chungcheongnando, Namwon in Jellabukdo, and Sunchon and Kwangju in Jellanamdo. In 2007, TSWV covered 17 areas of western and southern parts; the 5 area including Taian in Chungcheongnamdo, Kwangju in Jellanamdo, Bucheon in Gyunggido, and so forth. TBSV was described firstly on table tomato at Sacheon in Kyungsangnamdo in 2004. TBSV occurred on cherry tomato at Chungju in 2006 and on table tomato at Busan area.
It was studied about the effects of irrigation schedules by integrated solar radiation on fruit sweetness of cherry tomato in perlite and polyurethane(PUR) culture. In PUR culture. the brix % was decreased with frequent irrigation and their differences were increased as high as the cluster. The brix % in PUR culture was higher than in perlite culture and their differences were large in proportion as the Plant grew when the Percentage of drainage was 25%. The a* value, expressing red color. was not affected by irrigation schedules when the medium was PUR. On the other hand, the value of a* in PUR was higher than that in perlite. and its tendency was large as high as the cluster. The fresh weight of fruit was higher in perlite culture than in PUR culture. From this study it Is recommended that the percentage of drainage is maintained to 25% in PUR culture in view of Productivity and quality of fruits.

Excessive alcohol consumption can cause hangover symptoms, such as headache, drowsiness, dizziness, gastrointestinal distress, and anxiety. The aim of this study was to investigate alcohol metabolizing enzyme activities and antioxidant activities of fruit-vegetable juices containing Angelica keiskei prepared using a low speed masticating juicer in vitro. The acceleration rate of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) by A. keiskei-cherry tomato juice (ACJ) and A. keiskei-green grape juice (AGJ) were $163.8{\pm}4.3%$ and $148.2{\pm}6.9%$, respectively. The acceleration rate of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) by ACJ and AGJ were $185.6{\pm}9.5%$ and $161.1{\pm}4.8%$, respectively. Total polyphenol of ACJ and AGJ were $111.1{\pm}1.6mg/dL$ and $100.8{\pm}2.9mg/dL$, respectively. DPPH radical scavenging activities of ACJ and AGJ were $62.0{\pm}0.5%$ and $61.3{\pm}0.4%$, respectively. Thus, these results indicate that alcohol degrading enzyme activities can be enhanced by fruitvegetable juices containing A. keiskei.
The CA(Controlled Atmosphere) storage of cherry tomatoes were carried out under seven gas compositions including air. The weight loss of cherry tomatoes progressively increased with storage time. In the case of cherry tomatoes stored under CA conditions, increment of weight loss was reduced. However, cherry tomatoes (in air) tut about 15% weight at the end of storage. In CA stored cherry tomatoes lost about 10% weight at the same time. General trend was a decrease in titratable acidity with storage time. In air md 6.4% O$_2$, 4.2% CO$_2$, titratable acidity was lower than that in other storage conditions. During storage of cherry tomatoes, soluble solids increased till 8 days of storage, and then decreased. Stored cherry tomatoes in air and 6.4% O$_2$+4.2% CO$_2$ have lower values. Lycopene contents of cherry tomatoes with 6% O$_2$ storage condition increased and cherry tomatoes with 1% O$_2$+6% CO$_2$ and 3% O$_2$+3.1% CO$_2$maintained s initial contents. In air, flesh firmness decrease till 8 days, and then increase. At 1% O$_2$+6% CO$_2$ ethanol contents were ten times to that of other experimental conditions. Air and 6% O$_2$+7.8% CO$_2$ condition had lowest value for the ethanol content. In changes of organic acid and citric acid decreased slowly during storage, malic acid in air and below 3% O$_2$was disappeared at 8 days. Above 4% O$_2$concentration malic acid contents were maintained till 16 days. In over all acceptability, air and 6.4% O$_2$+7.8% CO$_2$ condition took a good score from the panel. Quality of stored cherry tomatoes was not edible condition in 1% O$_2$+6% CO$_2$. CA storage cherry tomatoes took a good score in firmness and juiciness where as control received good score in color and sweetness. This result was explained that in air ad 6.4% O$_2$+7.8% CO$_2$stored cherry tomato was ripened and full color development, but in CA was break stage because of suppressed ripening.
This research was conducted in order to analyze the difference in yield through the changes in growth and measuring the photosynthesis efficiency in cherry tomatoes. Seedlings of cherry tomato 'Nonari' were used as scion and non-grafted control, while 4 different grafted tomatoes 'Powerguard', 'T1', 'L1', and 'B.blocking' were used as rootstocks. Plants grafted onto 'B.blocking' produced the highest fruit yield (417.5 g plant-1), whereas non-grafted plant 'Nonari' had the lowest fruit yield, (354.2 g plant-1) at the latter period of cherry tomatoes in May. The flowering position in May, plant grafted onto 'B.blocking', showed 14-17 cm, whereas non-grafted plant 'Nonari' showed 10-14 cm. The growth strength on May 15, non-grafted plant 'Nonari', showed 8.43 mm which was the lowest value among the treatments. Grafted plants kept the growth balance until the end of the harvest that led to an increase in fruit yield, while non-grafted plant weakened the vigor earlier that led to a decrease in fruit yield. Grafted plants showed higher values of chlorophyll fluorescence variables than the values of non-grafted plant. These results indicate that grafting influenced fruit yield which was observed as maintaining growth balance for longer and an increase in photosynthesis efficiency compared to non-grafting.
For the detection of Tobacco masaic virus (TMV), Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV), and Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), tomato seeds of 11 table tomato and 7 cherry tomato cultivars were assayed by DAS-ELISA. Among the cultivars, TMV and ToMV were detected from 9 cultivars at the rates lower than 20% and 16%, respectively. In the assay on seed transmission rates, ToMV and CMV were detected as high as 24% and 8% , respectively, but TMV was not detected. In field survey on these viruses from tomato plants of 10 different places in Chungbuk province, ToMV and CMV were detected from most fields. TMV was detected from only 3 fields. The highest detection rates of these viruses were recorded in Cheongwon for TMV Chungju for ToMV, and the other locality of Chungju far CMV. It was difficult to find any relationship between the growth stage of tomato and infection rates. TMV usually caused mosaic on leaves while ToMV caused various symptoms including yellows, necrosis, and mottling. CMV-infected tomato plants showed symptoms of shoestring, fern leaf, and yellows.

Population dynamics of the American serpentine leafminer, Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess), were observed and modeled in order to compare the effects of air and tomato leaf temperatures inside a greenhouse using DYMEX model builder and simulator (pre-programed module based simulation programs developed by CSIRO, Australia). The DYMEX model simulator consisted of a series of modules with the parameters of temperature dependent development and oviposition models of L. trifolii were incorporated from pre-published data. Leaf surface temperatures of cherry tomato leaves (cv. 'Koko') were monitored according to three tomato plant positions (top, > 1.8 m above the ground level; middle, 0.9 - 1.2 m; bottom, 0.3 - 0.5 m) using an infrared temperature gun. Air temperature was monitored at the same three positions using a self-contained temperature logger. Data sets for the observed air temperature and average leaf surface temperatures were collected (top and bottom surfaces), and incorporated into the DYMEX simulator in order to compare the effects of air and leaf surface temperature on the population dynamics of L. trifolii. The initial population consisted of 50 eggs, which were laid by five female L. trifolii in early June. The number of L. trifolii larvae was counted by visual inspection of the tomato plants in order to verify the performance of DYMEX simulation. The egg, pupa, and adult stage of L. trifolii could not be counted due to its infeasible of visual inspection. A significant positive correlation between the observed and the predicted numbers of larvae was found when the leaf surface temperatures were incorporated into the DYMEX simulation (r = 0.97, p < 0.01), but no significant positive correlation was observed with air temperatures(r = 0.40, p = 0.18). This study demonstrated that the population dynamics of L. trifolii was affected greatly by the leaf temperatures, though to little discernible degree by the air temperatures, and thus the leaf surface temperature should be for a consideration in the management of L. trifolii within cherry tomato greenhouses.
This study was carried out to evaluate the suitability of simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers for varietal identification and genetic diversity in 28 commercial tomato varieties. The relationship between marker genotypes and 28 varieties was analyzed. Of the 219 pairs of SSR primers screened against ten tomato varieties, 18 pairs were highly polymorphic with polymorphism information content (PIC) ranging from 0.467 to 0.800. Among the polymorphic loci, two to nine SSR alleles were detected for each locus with an average of 3.3 alleles per locus. Genetic distances were estimated according to Jaccard's methods based on the probability that the amplified fragment from one genotype would be present in another genotype. These varieties were categorized into cherry and classic fruit groups corresponding to varietal types and genetic distance of cluster ranging from 0.35 to 0.97. The phonogram discriminated all varieties by marker genotypes. The SSR markers proved to be useful variety identification and genetic resource analysis of tomato.
Whole and stem-off cherry tomatoes were packaged using perforated films(LF05, LF10, LF20, and LF40). Gas composition(ethylene, $O_2$, and $CO_2$), firmness(compression and penetration force), color, brix degree, acidity, and total microbial counts were assessed during storage at $10^{\circ}C$ and 85% relative humidity. Gas composition varied with film gas permeability, indicating that modified atmospheric(MA) conditions were achieved. Firmness fell during storage; samples packed using LF05 showed the lowest firmness, corresponding to low gas transmission conditions. L(lightness) and a(redness) values respectively decreased and rose slightly with increasing storage time, but the b(yellowness) values fell notably. Film permeability significantly affected acidity and soluble solid levels. When LF40 packaging was used, acidity and brix scale changes were similar to those seen after PET container packaging. Total microbial counts increased with time after packaging in most films, and pretreatment differences were not significant. Microflora varied between stem on/off tomatoes. Skin wrinkling and juice appearance were common in tomatoes stored in PET containers and LF films of low gas permeabilities(LF05, LF10, and LF20). White molds were partially found on stem-on tomatoes stored using packaging systems. When film packagings were compared, LF40 was optimal, permitting minimal pretreatment yet offering maximal sanitation.
