Evaluation of Voltage Sag and Unbalance due to the System Connection of Electric Vehicles on Distribution System

  • Due to increased concerns for rising oil prices and environmental problems, various solutions have been proposed for solving energy problems through tightening environmental regulations such as those regarding $CO_2$ reduction. Among them, Electrical Vehicles (EVs) are evaluated to be the most realistic and effective approach. Accordingly, research and development on EVs and charging infrastructures are mainly proceeding in developed countries. Since EVs operate using electric energy form a battery, they must be connected to the power system to charge the battery. If many EVs are connected during a short time, power quality problems can occur such as voltage sag, voltage unbalance and harmonics which are generated from power electronics devices. Therefore, when EVs are charged, it is necessary to analyze the effect of power quality on the distribution system, because EVs will gradually replace gasoline vehicles, and the number of EVs will be increased. In this paper, a battery for EVs and a PWM converter are modeled using an ElectroMagnetic Transient Program (EMTP). The voltage sag and unbalance are evaluated when EVs are connected to the distribution system of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The simulation results are compared with IEEE standards.

  • Global automobile manufacturers are developing electric vehicles (EVs) to eliminate the pollutant emissions from internal combustion vehicles and to minimize fossil fuel consumptions for the future generations. However, EVs have a disadvantage of shorter traveling distance than that of conventional vehicles. To answer this shortfall, more batteries are installed in the EV to satisfy the consumer expectation for the driving range. However, as the energy capacity of the battery mounted in the EV increases, the amount of heat generated by each cell also increases. Naturally, a better battery thermal management system (BTMS) is required to control the temperature of the cells efficiently because the appropriate thermal environment of the cells greatly affects the power output from the battery pack. Typically, the BTMS is divided into an active and a passive system depending on the energy usage of the thermal management system. Heat exchange materials usually include gas and liquid, semiconductor devices and phase change material (PCM). In this study, an application of PCM for a BTMS was investigated to maintain an optimal battery operating temperature range by utilizing characteristics of a PCM, which can accumulate large amounts of latent heat. The system was modeled using Dymola from Dassault Systems, a multi-physics simulation tool. In order to compare the relative performance, the BTMS with the PCM and without the PCM were modeled and the same battery charge/discharge scenarios were simulated. Number of analysis were conducted to compare the battery cooling performance between the model with the aluminum case and PCM and the model with the aluminum case only.

다수 캐비티 사출금형에서의 균형 충전을 위한 러너 시스템 연구 (A study on the runner system for filling balance in multi-cavity injection molds)

  • 사출성형은 열가소성 수지의 가공법으로 정밀도나 고품질의 제품을 효과적으로 생산하는데 널리 이용되는 기술이다. 다수 캐비티 사출성형에서 캐비티 충전 불균형이 발생하는데 이러한 현상은 사출성형품의 치수 및 중량의 편차 뿐 아니라 물리적 특성에 영향을 미치고 있다. 충전 불균형은 충전 단계에서 러너 내에서 발생되는 불균일한 전단분포에 기인하여 발생되므로 점도 변화에 영향을 주는 수지의 물성, 사출조건 등 성형공정 조건 요인에 의해 충전 불균형의 양상이 다르게 된다. 본 논문에서는 점도 및 물성이 다른 PC, PP 수지에 대하여 성형조건에 따른 충전 현상을 관찰하고 원인을 분석하였고 사출속도에 따른 충전 불균형 현상의 원인을 고찰하기 위해 사출성형실험과 CAE 해석을 수행하였다. CAE 해석을 수행하여 각 수지마다 사출속도에 따른 충전 패턴 경향과 온도분포를 예측하고 캐비티 간 충전 균형을 위해 새로운 볼륨 러너 시스템을 제시하였고 캐비티 간 충전 균형을 확인 할 수 있었다.

도핑된 발광층을 갖는 다층 유기발광다이오드 소자의 전기적 특성 해석 (Simulations of Electrical Characteristics of Multi-layer Organic Light Emitting Diode Devices with doped Emitting Layer)

  • 발광층에 도펀트가 도핑된 다층 유기발광다이오드 소자 구조에서의 발광 메카니즘을 검증하기 위해 전기적인 특성요인들을 수치해석 하였다. 본 논문에 적용한 유기발광다이오드 소자는 ITO/NPB/$Alq_3$:C545T(%)/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al으로 이루어져 있으며 도펀트인 C545T의 도핑 농도를 변화시킨 4종류의 소자 구조에 대해 특성 변화를 검토하였다. 그 결과 도펀트의 도핑 농도 변화에 따라서 전압-전류 특성이 변화되어짐을 확인하였고, 이는 참고 문헌에 제시되어 있는 전압-전류밀도 실험 데이터와 매우 잘 일치되었다. 또한 도펀트를 도핑시킨 소자 구조들에서 전압-휘도 특성이 대폭 향상되어 발광효율이 3배정도 향상되었다. 이와 같은 guest-host system이 적용된 유기발광다이오드 소자의 동작 메카니즘을 분석하기 위하여 소자 내부에서의 전계분포, 전하분포, 재결합율 등의 전기적인 항목들에 대한 특성의 변화를 관찰하였다.

A Coordinative Control Strategy for Power Electronic Transformer Based Battery Energy Storage Systems

  • A power electronic transformer (PET) based on the cascaded H-bridge (CHB) and the isolated bidirectional DC/DC converter (IBDC) is capable of accommodating a large scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in the medium-voltage grid, and is referred to as a power electronic transformer based battery energy storage system (PET-BESS). This paper investigates the PET-BESS and proposes a coordinative control strategy for it. In the proposed method, the CHB controls the power flow and the battery state-of-charge (SOC) balancing, while the IBDC maintains the dc-link voltages with feedforward implementation of the power reference and the switch status of the CHB. State-feedback and linear quadratic Riccati (LQR) methods have been adopted in the CHB to control the grid current, active power and reactive power. A hybrid PWM modulating method is utilized to achieve SOC balancing, where battery SOC sorting is involved. The feedforward path of the power reference and the CHB switch status substantially reduces the dc-link voltage fluctuations under dynamic power variations. The effectiveness of the proposed control has been verified both by simulation and experimental results. The performance of the PET-BESS under bidirectional power flow has been improved, and the battery SOC values have been adjusted to converge.

연비 평가를 위한 6속 DCT기반 HEV 성능 시뮬레이터의 개발 (Development of Performance Simulator for 6-speed DCT-based Hybrid Electric Vehicle to Evaluate the Fuel Economy)

  • With aggravation of environmental contamination and energy resource exhaustion, Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) that can be economically operated with low fuel consumption are receiving greater attention. For performance improvement of such HEV, the development of efficient transmission can be seen as one of core technologies such as performance of components and driving strategy. Dual clutch transmission (DCT) is actively studied as a transmission type for HEV due to its advantages of having excellent power transmission efficiency based on manual transmission characteristic, resolving the problem of power interruption, and realizing driving convenience of automatic transmission (AT). In this paper, one diesel HEV equipped with 6-Speed DCT, modelled using MATLAB/Simulink, and a performance simulator developed for this vehicle are introduced. Driving simulation with driving cycles such as FTP75 and NYCC was performed using the developed performance simulator, and the simulated results regarding state of charge and fuel economy, when AT and DCT are applied to this diesel hybrid vehicle respectively, are compared. This performance simulator can be utilized to develop a control algorithm for improving the fuel economy of HEV with DCT.

외기보상제어 적용에 따른 지열 히트펌프 시스템의 에너지 효율 향상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Energy Efficiency of a Geothermal Heat Pump System in use the Outdoor Reset Control Application)

  • The government is fostering a renewable energy industry as an alternative to handle the energy crisis. Among the renewable energy systems available, geothermal energy is being highlighted as being highly efficient and safely operable without the effect of outdoor air. Accordingly, a study on the geothermal heat pump is in progress in various worldwide perspective. However, Geothermal energy is only in charge of part load of the building due to the high initial installation cost in korea. Moreover, its efficiency is reduced due to the use of independent existing heat sources. In this study, after selecting the building containing the actual installed geothermal heat pump, the use of excellent geothermal heat pump systems was maximized in terms of the energy efficiency. The objective of this study is to show the operation method of geothermal heat pump system to improve energy efficiency through the TRNSYS simulation. This paper proposed operation methods of geothermal heat pump control according to outdoor air temperature. The result of this study is that existing operation method had some problems and if offered improvement is applied to real condition, energy consumption would be decreased.

평판형 태양 전지의 광학 및 전기적 특성 최적화를 위한 에미터 전극 설계 연구 (Emitter Electrode Design to Optimize the Optical and Electrical Characteristics of Planar Solar Cells)

  • 본 연구에서는 기본적인 평면 태양 전지 구조에 1차원 주기를 가지는 에미터 전극 배치를 통해 광학 및 전기적 효율을 최적화하는 설계방법을 제안한다. 에미터 전극의 주기가 줄어들면 애퍼처 비율이 감소해 빛 흡수율이 줄어들어 태양 전지 성능 저하에 영향을 끼친다. 본 연구에서는 시뮬레이션을 통해 가장 간단한 평판형 태양 전지 구조 내에서 에미터 전극 배열의 최적안을 제시하였다. 광학적 측면에서 에미터 전극이 없이 광흡수층 전면에서의 광흡수를 하는 레퍼런스 소자와 성능이 유사한 조건을 도출했다. 그리고 광흡수 및 전기적 효율 측면을 모두 고려하여 가장 효과적인 전극 구조를 제안하였다. 본 연구 결과는 광전 변환으로 생성된 전하를 전극으로 가장 효율적으로 전달할 수 있는 구조를 제안함으로써, 대체 에너지원에서 큰 비중을 차지하고 있는 태양 전지의 활용성을 높이는데 기여할 것이다.

Generic Costing Scheme Using General Equilibrium Theory for Fair Cloud Service Charging

  • Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) enable their users to access Cloud computing and storage services from anywhere in quick and flexible manners through the Internet. With the basis of 'pay-as-you-go' model, it makes the interactions between CSPs and the users play a vital role in shaping the Cloud computing market. A pool of virtualized and dynamically scalable Cloud services that delivered on demand to the users is associated with guaranteed performance and cost-provisioning. It needed a costing scheme for determining suitable charges in order to secure lease pricing of the Cloud services. However, it is hard to meet the satisfied prices for both CSPs and users due to their conflicting needs. Furthermore, there is lack of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that allowing the users to take part into price negotiating process. The users may lose their interest to use Cloud services while reducing CSPs profit. Therefore, this paper proposes a generic costing scheme for Cloud services using General Equilibrium Theory (GET). GET helps to formulate the price function for various services' factors to match with various demands from the users. It is initially determined by identifying the market circumstances that a general equilibrium will be hold and reached. Specifically, there are two procedures of agreement made in response to (i) established equilibrium supply and demand, and (ii) service price formed and constructed in a price range. The SLAs in our costing scheme is integrated to satisfy both CSPs and users' needs while minimizing their conflicts. The price ranging strategy is deliberated to provide prices' options to the users with respect their budget limit. Meanwhile, the CSPs can adaptively charge based on users' preferences without losing their profit. The costing scheme is testable and analyzed in multi-tenant computing environments. The results from our simulation experiments demonstrate that the proposed costing scheme provides better users' satisfaction while fostering fairness pricing in the Cloud market.

Ca2+ Sensitivity of Anoctamin 6/TMEM16F Is Regulated by the Putative Ca2+-Binding Reservoir at the N-Terminal Domain

  • Anoctamin 6/TMEM16F (ANO6) is a dual-function protein with Ca2+-activated ion channel and Ca2+-activated phospholipid scramblase activities, requiring a high intracellular Ca2+ concentration (e.g., half-maximal effective Ca2+ concentration [EC50] of [Ca2+]i > 10 μM), and strong and sustained depolarization above 0 mV. Structural comparison with Anoctamin 1/TMEM16A (ANO1), a canonical Ca2+-activated chloride channel exhibiting higher Ca2+ sensitivity (EC50 of 1 μM) than ANO6, suggested that a homologous Ca2+-transferring site in the N-terminal domain (Nt) might be responsible for the differential Ca2+ sensitivity and kinetics of activation between ANO6 and ANO1. To elucidate the role of the putative Ca2+-transferring reservoir in the Nt (Nt-CaRes), we constructed an ANO6-1-6 chimera in which Nt-CaRes was replaced with the corresponding domain of ANO1. ANO6-1-6 showed higher sensitivity to Ca2+ than ANO6. However, neither the speed of activation nor the voltage-dependence differed between ANO6 and ANO6-1-6. Molecular dynamics simulation revealed a reduced Ca2+ interaction with Nt-CaRes in ANO6 than ANO6-1-6. Moreover, mutations on potentially Ca2+-interacting acidic amino acids in ANO6 Nt-CaRes resulted in reduced Ca2+ sensitivity, implying direct interactions of Ca2+ with these residues. Based on these results, we cautiously suggest that the net charge of Nt-CaRes is responsible for the difference in Ca2+ sensitivity between ANO1 and ANO6.
