  • This Study is to estimate depth-length ratios by the frequency analysis of simultaneous rainfall data on fixed points in the Han -River basin. The depth-length ratios are based on examination of spatial and temporal correlation structures of the Han-River basin's rainfall. This Study reveals that the depth-length ratios are decreasing as the distance of the basin increases and that they are increasing as the duration of rainfall increases. This study also shows that the ratios tend to decrease as the return period increase. The results present general equations and characteristic equations of depth-length ratios, figures and characteristic parameter tables which explain the temporal and spatial structures of rainfall in the Han-River basin.

  • This paper presents that a transient response can be characterized by certain parameters which are correlated to characteristic polynomial coefficients. These are characteristic ratios and characteristic pulsatances by P. Naslin [4]. We have developed an approach to control directly the transient response. Firstly, speed of the response can be controlled by reconstruction form via multipliable characteristic pulsatances. Secondly, overshoot is controlled by reconstruction form via multipliable characteristic ratios. These formulas can be independently characterized by the system overshoot and the response time to a step input.

  • This study describes an oscillometric-based blood pressure measuring algorithm by detecting turning points of oscillation signal from digitally filtered cuff signals of an automatic sphygmomanometer. The blood pressure measuring algorithm uses a characteristic ratios method from the turning points. The accurate values of the systolic/diastolic blood presures(SBP/DBP) are calculated using the peaks in the ranges of characteristic ratios. Performances of the proposed algorithm and four automatic sphygmomanometers are compared with the mercury manometer(manual type sphygmomanometer), regarding the SBP and DBP values of manual sphygmomanometer as the reference values. The performance test showed the proposed algorithm revealed the best results in errors and a statistical analysis. Therefore this algorithm can be usable in any automatic sphygmomanometers.ssure states. This may be compromising results for subject-independent sensibility evaluation using EEG signal.

  • With the equivalent series circuit analyzed aby revolving field theory and drawn by using the equivalent circuit constant ratios in capacitor motor with windings not in quadrature having space harmonics in its magnetic field (the above ratios are the equivalent circuit constants for the fundamental flux to the magnetizing reactance of the circuit), the equation for the alternating torque with twice line freequency in the motor is directly derived, and the alternating torque is measured with the self-made stator vibration angle amplitude measuring apparatus that is composed of a pickup, filter, photoelectric pickoff etc. The measured values satisfactorily compared with computed values. The properties of the alternating torque characteristics for respective harmonic fluxes and the r5esultant alternating torque characteristic, the effects of the alternating torque characteristics for respective harmonic fluxes on the resultant alternating torque characteristic, the effects of the variation in the motor constants and the equivalent circuit constant ratios for the fundamental flux on the alternating torque characteristics for respective harmonic fluxes and the resultant alternating torque characteristic, are made clear, applying the equation. There exist the optimum values of the motor constants and the equivalent circuit constant ratios for the fundamental flux for decreasing the alternating torque, and the value could be determined in design by the method presented in this paper.

  • In this paper, variable characteristic ratio algorithm based on oscillometric method is proposed to enhance the accuracy of blood pressure measurement. We combined the slope-based approach and fuzzy inference technique to change the characteristic ratios of height-based method. The proposed algorithm was assessed on 255 measurements from 85 subjects and compared with the conventional height-based algorithm. The testing results showed that the developed algorithm achieved an overall grade A for both systolic and diastolic blood pressures according to the BHS protocol. And, mean standard deviation between the observers and the developed algorithm were 5.71mmHg and 6.29mmHg for systolic and diastolic pressures respectively, which also fulfilled the AAMI criteria. In conclusion, this algorithm was successfully developed and recommended for further clinical trials with the wider adult population.

  • For quality improvement, it is important to reduce variations of the quality characteristic. That can be achieved by the a, pp.ication of parameter design methodology to make the performance of the quality characteristic robust over the variety of noise conditions. Taguchi has used the signal-to-noise ratios for that purpose. For the static target characteristic and the dynamic characteristic problem, we propose a reasonable generalized SN ratio and p-value plot for identifying dispersion factors. The orginal idea of the p-value plot in from the gamma-plot in Lunani, Nair & Wasserman(1995). The graphic advantage of the p-value polt for identifying dispersion factors is illustrated through constructed examples.

  • For quality improvement, Taguchi emphasizes the reduction of variation of the quality characteristic, Taguchi has used the signal-to-noise ratios for achieving minimum dispersion of the quality characteristic with its location adjusted to some desired target value ${\tau}$ Lim(1994) proposes a reasonable SN ratio based on a linking relationship of the variance and mean through simple data analysis technique. In this paper we investigate the efficiency of those two SN ratios and variance stabilizing transformations through Monte Carlo Simulations.

  • The characteristic ratio assignment (CRA) method〔1〕 is new polynomial approach which allows to directly address the transient responses such as overshoot and speed of response time in time domain specifications. The method is based on the relationships between time response and characteristic ratios($\alpha_i$ ) and generalized time constant (T), which are defined in terms of coefficients of characteristic polynomial. However, even though the CRA can apply to developing a linear controller that meets good transient responses, there are still some fundamental questions to be explored. For the purpose of this, we have analyzed several sensitivities of a linear system with respect to the changes of coefficients itself and $\alpha_i$ of denominator polynomial. They are (i) the unnormalized root sensitivity : to determine how the poles change as $\alpha_i$ changes, and (ii) the function sensitivity to determine the sensitivity of step response to the change of o, and to analyze the sensitivity of frequency response as o, changes. As an other important result, it is shown that, under any fixed T and coefficient of the lowest order of s in denominator, the step response is dominantly affected merely by $\alpha_1, alpha_2 and alpha_3$ regardless of the order of denominator higher than 4. This means that the rest of the$\alpha_i$ s have little effect on the step response. These results provide some useful insight and background theory when we select $\alpha_i$ and T to compose a reference model, and in particular when we design a low order controllers such as PID controller.

  • In this paper, a novel zero-voltage-switching(ZVS) resonant DC-DC converter is proposed. It is composed of two symmetrical active-clamped circuits, the converter can be achieve ZVS in each switches. Also, active clamp capacitor ratios($\alpha$) of proposed circuit can be reduce a peak stress of switching voltage for each main switch. Simulation results using Pspice 9.2 ver and $C^{++}$ characteristic analysis show a provement for the validity of theoretical analysis. The analysis of the proposed Current-Fed Push Pull type DC-DC converter is generally described by using normalized parameter, and achieved an evaluated characteristic values which is needed to design a circuit. We confirm a rightfulness theoretical analysis by comparing a theoretical values and experimental values obtained from experiment using MOSFET as switching devices.
