  • Vibroarthrographic(VAG) signals, emitted by human knee joints, are non-stationary and multi-component in nature and time-frequency distributions(TFD) provide powerful means to analyze such signals. The objective of this paper is to classify VAG signals, generated during joint movement, into two groups(normal and patient group) using the characteristic parameters extracted by time-frequency transform, and to evaluate the classification accuracy. Noise within TFD was reduced by singular value decomposition and back-propagation neural network(BPNN) was used for classifying VAG signals. The characteristic parameters consist of the energy parameter, energy spread parameter, frequency parameter, frequency spread parameter by Wigner-Ville distribution and the amplitude of frequency distribution, the mean and the median frequency by fast Fourier transform. Totally 1408 segments(normal 1031, patient 377) were used for training and evaluating BPNN. As a result, the average value of the classification accuracy was 92.3(standard deviation ${\pm}0.9$)%. The proposed method was independent of clinical information, and showed good potential for non-invasive diagnosis and monitoring of joint disorders such as osteoarthritis and chondromalacia patella.

  • The Sulfur-Iodine thermochemical hydrogen production process (SI process) consists of the Bunsen reaction section, the $H_2SO_4$ decomposition section, and the HI decomposition section. The $HI_x$ solution ($I_2-HI-H_2O$) could be recycled to Bunsen reaction section from the HI decomposition section in the operation of the integrated SI process. The phase separation characteristic of the Bunsen reaction using the $HI_x$ solution was similar to that of $I_2-H_2O-SO_2$ system. On the other hands, the amount of produced $H_2SO_4$ phase was small. To investigate the effects of $SO_2$ solubility on Bunsen reaction, the continuous Bunsen reaction was performed at variation of the amounts of $SO_2$ gas. Also, it was carried out to make sure of the effects of partial pressure of $SO_2$ in the condition of 3bar of $SO_2-O_2$ atmosphere. As the results, the characteristic of Bunsen reaction was improved with increasing the amounts and solubility of $SO_2$ gas. The concentration of Bunsen products was changed by reverse Bunsen reaction and evaporation of HI after 12 h.

  • In this article, we constructively prove that on a surface S with genus g$\geq$2, there exit maximal geodesic laminations with 7g-7,...,9g-9 leaves. Thus, S can have ideal cell-decompositions (i.e., S can be (ideally) triangulated by maximal geodesic laminations) with 7g-7,...,9g-9 (ideal) 1-cells. Once there is a triangulation for a compact surface, the Euler characteristic for the surface can be calculated as the alternating sum F-E+V, where F, E, and V denote the number of faces, edges, and vertices, respectively. We also prove that the same formula holds for the ideal cell decompositions.

  • In this paper, we present the complete isotropy analysis of a caster wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot (COMR) with nonredundant/redundant actuation. It is desirable for robust motion control to keep a COMR close to the isotropy but away from the singularity as much as possible. First, with the characteristic length introduced, the kinematic model of a COMR is obtained based on the orthogonal decomposition of the wheel velocities. Second, a general form of the isotropy conditions of a COMR is given in terms of physically meaningful vector quantities which specify the wheel configuration. Third, for all possible nonredundant and redundant actuation sets, the algebraic expressions of the isotropy conditions are derived so as to identify the isotropic configurations of a COMR. Fourth, the number of the isotropic configurations, the isotropic characteristic length, and the optimal initial configuration are discussed.

  • Exothermic and ignition characteristic of igniter is very important factor in engine performance. Since the igniter performance is effected by Hydrogen Peroxide decomposition rate, we have to test the preliminary catalyst performance test. In this report, after making igniter using hydrogen peroxide/kerosene, a thermal characteristic were examined by comparing hydrogen peroxide mass and catalyst mass. And then we study ignition characteristic of the affects of O/F ratio using the previous data.

  • This paper presents the D(Diagonal)-QR-RLS algorithm which normalizes the fast algorithm minimizes the MSE by using Givens rotated inputs and analyzes its characteristic. This proposed one has computational complexity of O(N) and the merit that it obtains the coefficients of TDL filter directly. Although this proposed normalized algorithm has the similar form to NLMS algorithm, we can see that D-QR-RLS has superior convergence characteristic to NLMS by computer simulation.

  • This paper presents the systematic isotropy analysis of a fully actuated caster wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot (COMR) with the steering link offset different from the wheel radius, which can be considered as the generalization of the previous analysis. First with the characteristic length introduced, the kinematic model of a COMR is obtained based on the orthogonal decomposition of the wheel velocities. Second, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the isotropy of a COMR are derived and examined to categorize there different groups, each of which can be dealt with in a similar way. Third, for each group, the isotropy conditions are further explored so as to identify four different sets of all possible isotropic configurations. Fourth, for each set the expressions of the isotropic characteristic length required for the isotropy of a COMR are elaborated.

  • Recently, natural hazards have occurred frequently due to climate change. The research need for predicting variability and tendency of precipitation and temperature has been increased. However, it is difficult to determine the characteristics of precipitation and temperature within a confidence range since they change due to complex factors with choppy and too many components. If their characteristics having more than one component are decomposed, then it can be useful for determining the variation of such characteristics more accurately. In this study, Korean precipitation and temperature were decomposed and their Intrinsic Mode Function (IMF) were extracted from Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD). Finally, the characteristics of Korean precipitation and temperature data were analyzed in terms of periodicity and tendency.

  • Decomposition of carbon dioxide is studied using $Ar/CO_2$ mixture inductively coupled plasmas (ICP). Argon gas was added to generate plasma which has high electron density. To measure decomposition rate of $CO_2$, optical emission actinometry is used. Changing input power, pressure and mixture ratio, the plasma parameters and the spectrum intensity were measured using single Langmuir probe and spectroscope. The source characteristic of Carbon dioxide ICP observed from the obtained plasma parameters. The decomposition rate is evolved depending on the reaction and discharge mode. This result is analyzed with both the measurement of the plasma parameters and the dissociation mechanism of $CO_2$.

  • A numerical method for accurate simulations of rotor aerodynamics is proposed. The numerical diffusion in the typically coarse grids away from the rotor blades is improved by implying a fourth-order of interpolation of local characteristic variables of the flow in the reconstruction stage of MUSCL approach in the framework of a finite volume formulation. In addition, different slope limiters are applied to the different characteristic fields, such as compressive limiters to linear characteristic fields to reduce the numerical dissipation whereas, diffusive limiters to nonlinear characteristic fields to increase numerical stability. Various exemplary problems related to the rotor aerodynamics applications are tested and the numerical results show a significant improvement in wake capturing capability. However, rotor aeroacoustic calculations show no meaningful difference over traditional MUSCL approach.
