Rabson-Mendenhall syndrome(RMS) is first characterized in 1955 by Rabson and Mendenhall. RMS is a rare autosomal recessive variant with insulin resistance. This is due to insulin receptor mutations or other target-cell defects in insulin action. General findings include acanthosis nigricans, hypertrichosis, onychauxis, growth retardation, precocious puberty, genital enlargement, protuberant abdomen and xerotic skin. Characteristic oral and maxillofacial findings include dental dysplasia, coarse facial skin, prognathic jaw and fissured tongue. In this case report, dental characteristics of a 4-year old boy with Rabson-Mendenhall syndrome are described.

Human papillomavirus (HPV), especially type 16 and 18, has been closely associated with carcinomas and uterine cevical cancer, recently. From in vitro assays, E6 and E7 genes of HPV16 are closely linked with transformation of cell lines of rodent fibroplasts. However, the transforming activity of E6 and E7 genes of HPV type 16 in vivo has not been fully elucidated. For explaining this mechanism, we prepared a expression system with the promoter of mouse mammary tumorvirus long terminal repeat and E6E7's open reading frames. This expression system was introduced in rodent cell lines, No. 7, 3Y1 and shown normal transforming abilities. And, we produced transgenic mice with E6, E7 expression system. These transgenic mice were confirmed from Southern blot analysis. One male of them was observed enlargement of the testis after 5 months postdelivery.

A 7-year-old castrated male Schnauzer was presented with melena and inappetence. Laboratory examination revealed mild anemia. Abdominal ultrasonography showed abnormal enlargement of intestinal segment and a oval mass with soft tissue density. After surgical resection of the enlarged intestine including the mass, histopathologic examination showed that the mass was tentatively diagnosed as synchronous occurrence of gland cell- and mesenchymal cell-origin tumors. Subsequently, immunohistochemistry showed positivity to cytokeratin AE1/AE3 in the gland cells and positivity to ${\alpha}-smooth$ muscle-specific actin, but negative expression of c-Kit, suggesting the co-existence of adenocarcinoma and leiomyosarcoma. Follow-up examination after 3-year of the surgery confirmed that the dog remained healthy and did not show recurrence of the tumors.

Castleman's disease (CD) is an uncommon lymphoproliferative disorder. The disease entity is classified into 2 clinical subtypes, unicentric and multicentric type. Prevalence of lymphoid malignancy in multicentric CD (MCD) is very low. In this case, we report a case of 77 years old woman who developed high fever and swelling in both side of her neck. Neck lymph node biopsy revealed plasma cell hyperplasia. Patient's symptom was subsided after treatment with Dexamethasone. Three months later, multiple lymph node enlargement was developed in abdomen and neck area again. Repeated neck lymph node biopsy confirmed diffuse large B cell lymphoma. The patient started chemotherapy.

Sjogren's syndrome is a chronic inflammatory disease that predominantly affects salivary, lacrimal and other exocrine glands. We report a case of Sjogren's syndrome combined with MALT (mucose associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma which occured in the parotid gland. A 57-year-old female with the complaint of painful swelling and lymph node enlargement was referred to our department. Sialograms of both parotid glands showed globular collections of contrast material uniformly distributed throughout the parotid gland. Salivary scintigraphy showed decreased uptake of the parotid gland. CT scan showed larger, slightly more dense parotid gland than normal and honeycomb glandular appearance. Also, It showed discrete, slightly more enhanced round mass in the left parotid gland. Histopathological finding showed replacement of salivary gland parenchyma with dense small lymphocytic infiltration having the feature of epimyoepithelial islands. Kappa light chain restriction of interglandular plasma cell could be seen.

This study was carried out to investigate ontogeny of stomata and aerenchyma tissue in Trapa natans L. var. bispinosa Makino, an aquatic plant. Ontogeny of stomata in this plant was an aperigenous type surrounding with 5 to 8 epidermal cells without subsidiary cells. Stomata were distributed abundantly on the upper surface of leaf, however, no stoma was found on the lower surface of leaf, and on the epidermis of reproductive organ, petiole and stem. Ontogency of aerenchyma tissue was progressed with five steps; 1) formation of angular cells by division of cortex cells, 2) development of small and large globular cells in accompany with schizogenous intercellular space, 3) enlargement of globular cells and more expansion of intercellular space, 4) cell induction of long elliptic and triarmed shape, 5) completion of the largest intercellular space from endodermis toepidermis. During the growth period two types of leaf were appeared at each node of stems; one type was a submerged and early-fallen leaf, the other was a floating leaf on water surface.

Leukemia is a malignant disease characterized by uncontrolled clonal proliferation of white blood cells. It is classified depending on clinical course of disease (acute or chronic) and the primary hematopoietic cell line affected (myeloid or lymphoid). Leukemia is often associated with orofacial manifestations, such as oral bleeding, petechiae, oral ulceration, gingival enlargement, mucosal pallor and mental nerve neuropathy. However, trismus has been rarely reported as a sign of leukemia. We present a case of trismus caused by acute lymphoblastic leukemia and emphasize the importance of orofacial manifestations in the early diagnosis of leukemia.

This studies were conducted in an attempt to investigate the effect of Oenanthe javanics extract on enzyme activities of liver and excretory action of bile juice in serum of carbon tetrachloride-intoxicated rabbits. Long-term oral administration of this extracts shows more rapid recuperation in GPT, total cholesterol, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin and BSP values than control groups. 750 mg/kg-administered group shortens rapidly the recovery time o·』 GPT, total cholesterol and BSP values than 250 mg/kg administered groups. But any difference was not observed in alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin among two groups. In histological studies the lager amount-administered groups exhibited more rapid recovery of liver cell enlargement, oedema, necrosis in carbon-tetrachloride treated rabbits.

Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma(NHL) is a malignant tumor that is derived from the lymphatic system. The most common symptoms of NHL are painless lymph node enlargement. However, we should not diagnose NHL by only fragmentary clinical symptom and radiologic finding because of the various lymphoma characters. We have treated a patient with such preoperative findings of Branchial cleft cyst. However, the pathologic diagnosis of the surgical specimen was diffuse large b-cell lymphoma.

This paper dealt with the light microscopical and electron microscopical findings on the morphological changes of the liver of Korean native goat injected with toxin (culture filtrate) of Clostridium perfringens which was isolated from Korean native cattle died of acute Clostridium perfringens enterotoxemia. The results observed are summarized as follows. In the microscopical findings, hyperemia and minute hemorrhage of the liver parenchyma, dilatation of hepatic central vein and centrilobular necrosis of liver, cloudy swelling and hydropic degeneration of hepatic cells, and appearance of light eosinophilic granular bodies in the vacuoles were recognized. In the electron microscopical findings, appearance of pinocytotic vesicle (coated vesicle), fusion of these vesicles, formation of vacuole and accumulation of minute granular proteinous materials in the vacuole were observed in the hepatic cells. Decreased number of glycogen granules, swelling and destruction of mitochondria, proliferation of smooth-surfaced endoplasmic reticulum, enlargement of rough-surfaced endoplasmic reticulum, dispersal of thready agranular membranous structure and appearance of secondary lysosome were recognized in the hepatic cell cytoplasm.
