Hydrograph Separation using Geochemical tracers by Three-Component Mixing Model for the Coniferous Forested Catchment in Gwangneung Gyeonggido, Republic of Korea

  • This study was conducted to clarify runoff production processes in forested catchment through hydrograph separation using three-component mixing model based on the End Member Mixing Analysis (EMMA) model. The study area is located in the coniferous-forested experimental catchment, Gwangneung Gyeonggido near Seoul, Korea (N 37 45', E 127 09'). This catchment is covered by Pinus Korainensis and Abies holophylla planted at stocking rate of 3,000 trees $ha^{-1}$ in 1976. Thinning and pruning were carried out two times in the spring of 1996 and 2004 respectively. We monitored 8 successive events during the periods from June 15 to September 15, 2005. Throughfall, soil water and groundwater were sampled by the bulk sampler. Stream water was sampled every 2-hour through ISCO automatic sampler for 48 hours. The geochemical tracers were determined in the result of principal components analysis. The concentrations of $SO_4{^{2-}$ and $Na^+$ for stream water almost were distributed within the bivariate plot of the end members; throughfall, soil water and groundwater. Average contributions of throughfall, soil water and groundwater on producing stream flow for 8 events were 17%, 25% and 58% respectively. The amount of antecedent precipitation (AAP) plays an important role in determining which end members prevail during the event. It was found that ground water contributed more to produce storm runoff in the event of a small AAP compared with the event of a large AAP. On the other hand, rain water showed opposite tendency to ground water. Rain water in storm runoff may be produced by saturation overland flow occurring in the areas where soil moisture content is near saturation. AAP controls the producing mechanism for storm runoff whether surface or subsurface flow prevails.

산림유역내 강우 발생시 계류수질변화와 지중유출수의 기여도 (Change of Stream water Chemistry and Contribution of Subsurface Discharge in Forest Catchment during Storm Events)

  • To understand the chemical changes in the streamwater and contribution of subsurface discharge during the storm event, we analyzed electric conductivity (EC), anions, and cations in Gwangneung deciduous and coniferous forest catchment. The stream water samples were collected three times in 2004 by using an auto-sampler: September 7-9 (E040907-D and -C; where D and C indicate deciduous and coniferous forest catchment, respectively), September 11-13 (E040911-D and -C), and September 16-18 (E040916-D and -C). We found a negative relationship between discharge intensity and EC in streamwater. The E040911 and E040916 showed slack change of stream discharge in comparison to E040907 due to contribution of base flow recharged by much precipitation. Moreover, NO/sub 3//sup -/ concentrations in E040911-C were highest, which may have resulted from forest management such as thinning in 2004. The relationship between pH and alkalinity in stream water showed that much of stream water have been recharged through subsurface. We conclude that subsurface discharge highly influences streamwater quality in a forested catchment, and the seperation of stream water discharge is therefore necessary to sustainable water management.

  • 기후변동에 따른 식생반응 및 그에 따른 물수지 동역학의 변화를 살펴볼 목적으로 본 연구에서는 식생의 물 이용가능성과 식생 생산량의 지역별 연별 변동성을 분석하였다. 유역의 식생 물이용의 대리변수로서 습윤량에 대한 기화량의 비로 표현되는 Horton 지수의 계산을 통하여 유역에서의 수문 분할과 그에 따른 식생의 물 이용 가능성에 대한 정량화를 시도하였다. 연별 Horton 지수의 추정결과 기후의 변동성과 비교하여 볼 때 상대적으로 일정한 값을 유지하고 있는 것을 살펴볼 수 있다. 이와 더불어 Horton 지수와 식생의 강우이용효율을 비교한 결과, 물 이용가능성에 따른 식생의 물 이용에 대한 흥미로운 패턴이 있음을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 물이 식생 성장에 제한요소가 될 경우 식생의 강우이용효율은 공통적인 최대값으로 수렴한다는 선행연구들의 결과를 본 연구를 통해서도 확인할 수 있다.

Groundwater and Surface Water Hydrology in the Lake Rotorua Catchment, New Zealand, and Community Involvement with Lake Water Quality Restoration

  • Water quality in Lake Rotorua, New Zealand, deteriorated since the 1960s because of excessive phytoplankton growths due principally to increasing nitrogen and phosphorus in the lake waters. Nutrient concentrations in eight of the nine major streams feeding Lake Rotorua have increased since 1965. The groundwater system has a key role in the hydrology of the Lake Rotorua catchment and the groundwater system is probably the control on the time delay between intensification of agricultural land use and response of surface water quality. All major, and many minor streams, in the catchment are fed by springs. Two lithological units are most important to groundwater flow in the Lake Rotorua catchment: Mamaku Ignimbrite, erupted in about 200,000 years ago and Huka Formation sediments which filled the caldera left by the Mamaku Ignimbrite eruption. Rainfall recharge to groundwater in the groundwater catchment of Lake Rotorua is estimated as approximately 17300 L/s. A calibrated steady-state groundwater flow model estimates that approximately 11100 L/s of this flow discharges into streams and then into the lake and the balance travels directly to Lake Rotorua as groundwater discharge through the lake bed. Land use has impacted on groundwater quality. Median Total Nitrogen (TN) values for shallow groundwater sites are highest for the dairy land use (5.965 mg/L). Median TN values are also relatively high for shallow sites with urban-road and cropping land uses (4.710 and 3.620 mg/L, respectively). Median TN values for all other uses are in the 1.4 to 1.5 mg/L range. Policy development for Lake Rotorua includes defining regional policies on water and land management and setting an action plan for Lake Rotorua restoration. Aims in the action plan include: definition of the current nutrient budget for Lake Rotorua, identification of nutrient reduction targets and identification of actions to achieve targets. Current actions to restore Lake Rotorua water quality include: treatment of Tikitere geothermal nitrogen inputs to Lake Rotorua, upgrade of Rotorua City sewage plant, new sewage reticulation and alum dosing in selected streams to remove phosphorus.

수도권 광역급행철도 도입에 따른 철도역 영향권 산정 연구 (Analysis of Catchment Area of Seoul Metropolitan Express Train)

  • 수도권 광역급행철도 사업의 추진에 따라 해당 사업의 수요분석에 있어서 철도역의 영향권 설정 문제가 대두되었다. 이에 본 연구는 수도권 광역급행철도의 특성에 부합하는 철도역 영향권 설정방안을 제시하였다. 선행연구 및 접근통행 실태조사를 통해 노선의 특성 및 접근수단에 따라 영향권이 달라질 수 있음을 확인하였고, 광역급행철도를 별도의 수단으로 하는 수단선택모형을 구축하고 수단별 접근시간 모수추정치를 비교하였다. 이를 통해 광역급행철도의 영향권이 기존 광역도시철도에 비해 2.5배 가량 확대될 수 있음을 보였다. 이는 수요분석에 있어서 10% 이상의 차이를 낼 수 있어서 향후 수도권 광역급행철도의 합리적 수요분석을 위해서는 확대된 영향권의 설정이 필요하다고 하겠다.

도시근린공원의 도달거리와 포착력에 관한 계량모형연구 (A Study on the Quantitative Model of the Reach of the Catchment and the Distance to Urban Community Parks)

  • This study is practically focussed on the derivation of the formula of the reach of the catchment of urban community parks and the reached distance to the parks. The hypotheses for the formula are as follows. a. The catchment of urban community parks can be dependent on the quantitative characteristics that urban community parks have substanial factors : the potential residential population of the proximate community to a park, park visitor's day and mean usetime per year. b. The distance to the urban park is a decided variable which can be percieved quantitatively by the researchers among the exogenous variables concerned with the mean usetime of the urban community park. The data for the variables were collected from the statistics, and the surveys for 9 parks of 4cities(Seoul, Chong-ju, Su-Won, Chon-an) in Korea, which were divided into on-site samples and off-site ones in 1991. The data were collected by questionaire surveys. A total of 548 questionaires of off-site surveys were completed by the residents in the enticing area of the parks. A total of 1053 questionaires of on-site surveys were completed by the visitors of the parks. The research could attempt to derive a formula, which was concerned with the reach of the catchment of urban community parks and the reached distance to the parks. It is testified(R2>0.8) that the numbers of mean usetime per year should be related with the reached distance from a visitor's house to a proximate park. The formula is analogized with an exponential function: {{{{ Mean Usetime per year=f(x)=Ae-BK+Ce-DK ear, X is reached distance from a visitor's house to a proximate park. A,B,C and D are parameters. And, the differences of the reach of the catchment of the parks are not only testified with resulting from the differences of the exogenous variables of qualitative characteristics differences of the parks, but also divided separately into spatial ranges. This formula will be able to anticipate the visitor's numbers of a planned urban community park.

소유역 및 대유역 홍수유출모형의 적용 (Application of Surface Runoff-River flow Model to Small- and Large-Size Catchment Areas)

  • 지표면 유출과 하천 유출 통으로 구성된 동일한 홍수유출모형 SIRG-RS를 소유역과 대유역에 적용하였다. 지표면 유출로부터의 유입 방법, 하천 접합부에서의 계산방법, 급경사 산지하천에서의 에너지손실 계산 등에서 개선책을 강구하였다. 마찰력 산정을 위하여 레이놀즈수와 조고비의 함수인 지수형 마찰계수 산정식을 도입하였다. 또한 지수형 마찰계수 산정식은 실험자료뿐 아니라 최근 입수한 현장 관측자료를 사용하여 개선하였다. 개선된 모형은 대규모의 유역과 아주 작은 크기의 소유역에도 적용하였는데, 두 가지 경우 모두 관측자료와 비교하여 양호한 계산 결과를 얻었다.

중규모 하천유역에서 임계지속기간 특성 분석 (A Characteristic Analysis of Critical Duration of Design Rainfall in Medium Sized Catchment)

  • 본 연구에서는 대표단위도가 작성되어 있는 중규모 하천유역을 대상으로 첨두유량을 발생시키는 임계지속기간을 결정하고 임계지속기간과 관련된 수문요소들에 대한 평가를 수행하였다. 임계지속기간과 유역특성인자, 유역응답시간 특성인자 그리고 단위도 특성인자들과의 상관분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과, 재현기간을 제외한 나머지 수문요소(확률강우강도식, 유출량 산정방법, 유효우량 산정방법, 강우시간분포)이 임계지속기간에 영향을 미치는 것으로 판단되었다. 상관분석을 통하여 유역면적, 유로연장, 유로경사, 유역경사가 임계지속기간과 상관성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 상관성이 높은 유역특성인자와 임계지속기간과의 다중회귀 분석을 실시하고 7가지 형태의 회귀식을 제시하였으며, 유도된 회귀식의 결정계수가 모두 $0.96{\sim}0.97$으로 나타나 매우 높은 상관관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다.

Intra-event variability of bacterial composition in stormwater runoff from mixed land use and land cover catchment

  • Microbial community and composition in stormwater runoff from mixed land use land cover (LULC) catchment with ongoing land development was diverse across the hydrological stage due different environmental parameters (hydrometeorological and physicochemical) and source of runoff. However, limited studies have been made for bacterial composition in this catchment. Therefore, this study aims to: (1) quantify the concentration of fecal indicator bacteria (FIB), stormwater quality and bacterial composition and structure according to hydrological stage; and (2) determine their correlation to environmental parameters. The 454 pyrosequencing was used to determine the bacterial community and composition; while Pearson's correlation was used to determine the correlation among parameters-FIB, stormwater quality, bacterial composition and structure-to environmental parameters. Results demonstrated that the initial and peak runoff has the highest concentration of FIB, stormwater quality and bacterial composition and structure. Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria and Firmicutes were dominant bacteria identified in this catchment. Furthermore, the 20 most abundant genera were correlated with runoff duration, average rainfall intensity, runoff volume, runoff flow, temperature, pH, organic matter, nutrients, TSS and turbidity. An increase of FIB and stormwater quality concentration, diversity and richness of bacterial composition and structure in this study was possibly due to leakage from septic tanks, cesspools and latrines; feces of domestic and wild animals; and runoff from forest, destroyed septic system in land development site and urban LULC. Overall, this study will provide an evidence of hydrological stage impacts on the runoff microbiome environment and public health perspective.

지하철 통근통행시간이 역세권의 공간범위에 미치는 영향분석 (Relevance between Subway Commuting Travel Time and Spatial Extent of the Catchment Areas)

  • 최근 들어 시설투자를 통하여 대중교통중심의 교통체계로 전환을 시도하는 지방자치단체가 점차 늘어나고 있다. 그러나 장기적으로 지속적인 대중교통수송분담율의 제고를 위하여 대중교통 역세권의 토지이용체계를 대중교통중심으로 전환하는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 도시공간구조를 고려하여 서울 수도권 지하철 역세권에 대하여 역 주변에 거주하는 잠재적 이용자를 최대한 수용할 수 있도록 역세권의 공간범위를 설정하는 방안을 모색하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 2002년 서울시에서 수행한 가구통행실태조사의 통행자료를 이용하여 지하철통행시간과 보행접근시간의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 그 결과 역세권의 공간적 범위를 결정하는 보행접근시간은 지하철통행시간과 밀접한 관계를 가지나 공간적 위계에 따라 다르다는 것을 발견하였고, 지하철통근자의 개인속성도 공간구조적 특성과 함께 보행접근시간에 차별적으로 영향을 미침을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 대중교통중심의 개발정책에 반영할 경우 지하철의 안정적인 이용률 제고에 기여할 것으로 기대한다.
