Study on sloshing simulation in the independent tank for an ice-breaking LNG carrier

  • As the LNG carrier operates in ice covered waters, it is key to ensure the overall safety, which is related to the coupling effect of ice-breaking process and internal liquid sloshing. This paper focuses on the sloshing simulation of the ice-breaking LNG carrier, and the numerical method is proposed using Circumferential Crack Method (CCM) and Volume of Vluid (VOF) with two main key factors (velocity νx and force Fx). The ship motion analysis is carried out by CCM when the ship navigates in the ice-covered waters with a constant propulsion power. The velocity νx is gained, which is the initial excitation condition for the calculation of internal sloshing force Fx. Then, the ship motion is modified based on iterative computations under the union action of ice-breaking force and liquid sloshing load. The sloshing simulation under the LNG tank is studied with the modified ship motion. Moreover, an ice-breaking LNG ship with three-leaf type tank is used for case study. The internal LNG sloshing is simulated with three different liquid heights, including free surface shape and sloshing pressure distribution at a given moment, pressure curves at monitoring points on the bulkhead. This present method is effective to solve the sloshing simulation during ice-breaking process, which could be a good reference for the design of the polar ice-breaking LNG carrier.

Particle Image Velocimetry 기법을 이용한 CMP 공정의 Slurry유동 분석 (Velocity Measurements of Slurry Flows in CMP Process by Particle Image Velocimetry)

  • Chemical Mechanical Polishing(CMP) in semiconductor production is characterized its output property by Removal Rate(RR) and Non-Uniformity(NU). Some previous works show that RR is determined by production of pressure and velocity and NU is also largely affected by velocity of flowfield during CMP. This study is about the direct measurement of velocity of slurry during CMP and whole flowfield upon the non-groove pad by Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV). Typical PIV system is modified adequately for inspecting CMP and slurry flowfield is measured by changing both pad rpm and carrier rpm. We performed measurement with giving some variation in the kinds of pad. The results show that the flowfield is majorly determined not by Carrier but by Pad in the case of non-groove pad.

LNG 운반선에 대한 수치해 변화에 영향을 주는 요소에 관한 연구 (Research of Elements Giving Effects on the Numerical Analysis for the LNG Carrier)

  • Numerical analysis using the FLUENT is performed for the 138K LNG carrier of the MOERI. In this study, results according to the number and also the type of the grid, different turbulent models, variations of y+ are compared with experiments and computational results from the WAVIS. RSM model gives good result in comparison with other models, and the more the number of grid increase, the better the resistance converges to the constant value. Additionally, it is confirmed that the resistance and wake distributions vary with the change of y+, and O-O type grid yields better wake distributions than that of O-H type. Average velocity distributions and velocity profiles are mainly in accord with experiments and computational results of the WAVIS, however, present results in the region of transom and tip of leading edge of the rudder are poor for the lower velocity components comparing with that of the WAVIS.

  • This paper presents a proper condition to achieve high conversion efficiency using PC1D simulator on sri-crystalline Si solar cells. Various efficiency influencing parameters such as rear surface recombination velocity and minority carrier diffusion length in the base region, front surface recombination velocity, junction depth and doping concentration in the Emitter layer, BSF thickness and doping concentration were investigated. Optimized cell parameters were given as rear surface recombination of 1000 cm/s, minority carrier diffusion length in the base region 200 $\mu\textrm{m}$, front surface recombination velocity 100 cm/s, sheet resistivity of emitter layer 100 Ω/$\square$, BSF thickness 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$, doping concentration 5${\times}$10$\^$19/ cm$\^$-3/. Among the investigated variables, we learn that a diffusion length of base layer acts as a key factor to achieve conversion efficiency higher than 19 %.

반송파 정보를 이용한 GPS/DR 통합 방법 (A GPS/DR Integration Scheme using Carrier Measurements)

  • In conventional GPS/DR integration schemes, the GPS position (or pseudo-range) information is used in calibrating DR sensors. In those schemes, however, an inaccurate calibration may degrade the position accuracy when the GPS measurement is not available. This paper presents a new integration scheme where the GPS velocity information is used in calibrating DR sensors. Also proposed is a new error model of DR sensors for calibrating the bias error and the tilt error in dynamic environments. The proposed model makes it possible that the errors of both the DR sensor parameters and the velocity are calibrated using the GPS carrier-based velocity(or the pseudo-range rate) measurement while the DR position error is calibrated using the GPS position measurement. Since the DR sensors are calibrated accurately, the positioning accuracy is drastically improved when the GPS measurements are unavailable.

저온 분사 공정으로 제조된 Ti 코팅층의 미세조직 및 물성에 미치는 송급 가스의 영향 (Effect of Carrier Gases on the Microstructure and Properties of Ti Coating Layers Manufactured by Cold Spraying)

  • The effect of carrier gases (He, $N_2$) on the properties of Ti coating layers were investigated to manufacture high-density Ti coating layers. Cold spray coating layers manufactured using He gas had denser and more homogenous structures than those using $N_2$ gas. The He gas coating layers showed porosity value of 0.02% and hardness value of Hv 229.1, indicating more excellent properties than the porosity and hardness of $N_2$ gas coating layers. Bond strengths were examined, and coating layers manufactured using He recorded a value of 74.3 MPa; those manufactured using $N_2$ gas had a value of 64.6 MPa. The aforementioned results were associated with the fact that, when coating layers were manufactured using He gas, the powder could be easily deposited because of its high particle impact velocity. When Ti coating layers were manufactured by the cold spray process, He carrier gas was more suitable than $N_2$ gas for manufacturing excellent coating layers.

Typical PIV system is tuned adequately for inspecting CMP and Slurry Flow-field is measured by changing both Pad RPM and Carrier RPM. The results show that velocity is majorly determined not by Carrier RPM, but by Pad RPM.

  • The experiment was performed at the large wind tunnel of the Chungnam National University to measure the velocity distribution around the stern of a Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier model. The data, mean velocity vectors of turbulent shear flows at the stern and near-wake including the propeller plane, were obtained by a five-hole Pilot tube for the double body model fixed inside the wind tunnel test section. The present result of the double body model shows a close agreement with the result of the lowing tank experiment performed by the KRISO for the same ship model. The characteristics of the LNG stern flow are discussed based on the measured velocity distribution. The data can be very useful for the validation of some numerical methods in computational fluid dynamics.

  • Batch type reduction-oxidation tests were performed to check effects of temperature, pressure, gas velocity, and capacity on reduction characteristics of mass produced particle in a 0.5 MWth chemical looping combustion system. The fuel conversion and the CO2 selectivity increased as the temperature increased and as the gas velocity decreased. However the CO2 selectivity showed the maximum and decreased as the capacity increased because the CO emission increased. The results show that high temperature, low gas velocity and low inert gas concentration are preferable to ensure high reactivity of oxygen carrier in the fuel reactor.

공기운반분무기용 세라믹 노즐의 미립화 성능 (The Atomization Performance of Ceramic Nozzles in Air Carrier Sprayer)

  • Droplet size is one of the important factors in the deposition and drift of agrichemical application. In this study, droplet size and its distribution of the three different sizes of ceramic hollow cone nozzles being used in the air carrier sprayer for apple production were investigated at the various nozzle pressures and the three air velocities. The Malvern particle size analyzer were used for the measurement of droplet size and its distribution. The important results emerged from th is study can be summarized as follows. 1. Discharged rate was increase with the increase of the nozzle diameter and pressure, amount of the difference was remarkable between the nozzle diameter of 1.0, 1.2 and 1.5 mm, but no difference were found between the diameter of 1.0 and 1.2 mm in the same nozzle pressure. 2. Mass median diameter were varied as 40~160 ${mu}m$ at the air velocity of 0 m/s, 70~140 ${mu}m$ of 15 m/s and 100~160 ${mu}m$ of 20 m/s 3. It appeared that the air velocity range of 15~20 m/s was desirable for both drift and deposition control in the given experimental conditions.
