  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify problems in defining the concept of care and redefine it broadly, to examine the possibility of community care as an alternative way to change the negative image of care concept. Method : The literature review method was used for the study. Results : First, care is limitedly conceptualized as a concept of physical care and care for children and the elderly. Second, child care is perceived only as a burden, and it is avoided to express care needs in the youth period, and the care of the elderly is putting off responsibility between the public and the private sector. Third, through community care, we should be able to feel happiness in life itself and care needs to be recognized as a way of being throughout our life.

  • Automatically deriving only individual don't-care minterms that can effectively reduce a Boolean logic expressions are being investigated. Don't-care conditions play an important role in optimizing logic design. The type of unknown don't-care minterms that can always reduce the number of product terms in Boolean expression are referred as single hypothetical don't-care (S-HDC) minterms. This paper describes the Quasi Quine-McCluskey method that systematically derives S-HDC minterms. For the most part, this method is similar to the original Quine-McCluskey method in deriving the prime implicants. However, the Quasi Quine-McCluskey method further derives S-HDC minterms by applying so-called a combinatorial comparison operation. Upon completion of the procedure, the designer can review generated S-HDC minterms to test its appropriateness for a particular application.

  • The cost of hospice care should be covered by the insurance system if it is to be promoted in our country and this, in turn, requires a proper method to the estimate of this cost. The purpose of this study was to set up the method to estimate the cost of hospice care. First the cost effectiveness of hospice care were studied. By tracing the activities of hospice nurses for a given period, all the relevant data such as the scope and load of activities as well as the cost were collected. Then these were analysed and compared with the data obtained from hospice and home care. The results showed that the cost of hospice care was the most economic, and indicate its qualification as .1n in-dependent system. The main part of the cost of hospice care was found to be the labor cost which was up to 83% of the total. Therefore a method to estimate the cost should reflect the real labor cost. Several methods have been proposed in the study in terms of unit labor cost, service time, material cost, and the weight of the labor cost. All variables, including the service time surveyed in this study, can easily be translated into numerical values and it would not difficult to estmate the cost of hospice care. Hence by letting the hospice care be insured, hospice care can be expected to function as a good alternative to the present medical system.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine different child care curricula according to teacher's teaching method types. The subjects of the study were three hundred and fifty-six teachers, who were divided into four groups according to their teaching method: mixed method(type A), child oriented method(type B), teacher oriented method(type C), and beliefless method(type D). The data on the duration of free play and outdoor play time, activities frequently practiced in class, and outside one the playground were collected. The dimensions of child care programs were measured using Moore(1994)'s "The Early Childhood Dimensions of Education Rating Scale". The results of this study were as follows: first, teachers who used child oriented teaching methods gave more free play time than teachers using teacher oriented or mixed teaching methods. Second, teachers using teacher oriented methods showed the closeness and teachers using child oriented methods showed the openness in child care programs. Last, the activities teachers thought were the most important differed according to the teachers' methods even though in actual practice, there was no difference shown.

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to survey the performance of postpartum care and compare the western medicine and Korean medicine according to women's postpartum disease. The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the prevention and management of postpartum disease. Methods: The subjects were 228 women who experienced postpartum disease. This research was conducted in G city, at outpatient department of western medicine hospital and Korean medicine hospital. The degree of performance of postpartum care was measured on a 4-point scale divided by each area, and was compared in three groups. Results: Postpartum care includes traditional postpartum care and postpartum care in hospitals. The degree of performance of postpartum care means that the higher the score, the better. The traditional postpartum care performance score was 2.35 and the postpartum care performance score at the hospital was 1.63. The results of this study showed that the performance of traditional postpartum care was higher than that of postpartum care administered in hospitals. The perception of traditional postpartum care methods was 'An indispensable postpartum care method for health' (75.9%). The most effective method of postpartum care was 'consolidate in harmony traditional postpartum care and guidance of the medical team' (88.2%). Conclusions: The improvement and satisfaction degree of postpartum care were higher in Korean medicine than in western treatments. Therefore, the most efficient method of postpartum care must be integrated in harmony with the direction of the medical staff and traditional methods of postpartum care.

  • Purpose: The study aimed at providing better understanding of the way of carrying out nursing practice tailored to meet patient's individuality, and types of customized care in home care settings. Method: This study was conducted with qualitative design, using a grounded theory method. The directors of the home care department at three general hospitals nominated 12 staff nurses who had the experience of customized care. The data were collected using interview and field observation, and analyzed line-by-line with steps of coding. Result: The core category of customized care was 'caring in a precise manner suited to patient's individuality'. The central phenomenon was 'desire to do more for patient'. The action and interactions were: (a) knowing a patient all the more, (b) making a special relationship to a patient, (c) designing care alternatives reflecting individuality, and (d) performing the care alternatives reflecting individuality. Three types of customized care were the following: (a) completion of customized care, (b) an attempt to customized care, and (c) abandonment of working for customized care. Conclusions: The knowledge of customized care would be based on development of nursing practice program focusing on patient' individuality, and instrument development necessary for further research on care customization.

  • Purpose: This phenomenological analysis was conducted to explore the experiences of college student volunteers in the field of pediatric palliative care. Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with nine study participants who had experience volunteering with children receiving pediatric palliative care. The study analysis was conducted using the Colaizzi method, a rigorous qualitative research method, to develop "intra-group" comparisons among the study participants. Results: Through an analysis of the data, 51 themes, 18 theme clusters, and five main categories were derived. The results confirmed that the experience of university student volunteers in pediatric palliative care can be summarized as "awareness of the role of a volunteer," "difficulties encountered while volunteering," "efforts to overcome the difficulties of volunteer work," "personal reflection," and "awareness of life and death." Conclusion: The results of this study can be used as a practical guide for the effective management of volunteers in the pediatric palliative care setting.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to clarify the concept of pediatric hospice and palliative care through conceptual analysis. It also sought to identify the differences between related concepts such as pediatric death care and pediatric spiritual care, in order to provide foundational data for the development of nursing theory and knowledge. Methods: A conceptual analysis of pediatric hospice and palliative care was conducted using Rodgers' evolutionary method. Out of 5,013 papers identified, 28 were selected for detailed reading and analysis. Results: Pediatric hospice and palliative care encompasses physical, psychological, social, mental, spiritual, and family care for children with acute and chronic diseases with uncertain prognoses ahead of death, as well as their families. Effective pediatric hospice and palliative care will require multidisciplinary team nursing, effective communication, and supportive policies. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that providing pediatric hospice and palliative care will lead to improvements in pain relief for children and families, the efficiency of responses to death in children, and the quality of life for children and families. The significance of this study is that it clearly clarifies the concept by analyzing pediatric hospice and palliative care using an evolutionary method.
