  • In order to investigate the cause and condition of fluting in tangential bending of low carbon steel sheet, an analytic analysis, an experiment and a series of finite element analysis for bending process were done. The fluting in bended sheet was related with the yield point elongation of material. Due to the yield point elongation, unstable plastic hinge was occurred in course of bending of elastic perfectly plastic sheet. According to the analysis and computational results, lower yield point elongation than 5% was required to prevent fluting in 0.5-0.6t sheet in $15{\sim}25mm$ radius bending. The tendency of fluting occurrence was reduced as decreasing the radius of bending, increasing thickness of bended sheet, and removing irregularity in sheet and bending processes.

  • In this paper, the results of an experimental study were presented by measuring and comparing the flexural strength and deformation on the carbon fiber sheet strength reinforced concrete beam considering end anchorage effect. For this purpose, total six specimens of 100×100×600mm size were prepared and tested according to the KDS 14 20 20. The specimens were categorized in three cases as reference beams without strengthening, beams carbon fiber strengthened but not anchored and beams carbon fiber strengthened also anchored. Experimental results showed that the end anchorage contributed to increase the flexural strength about 42% greater than that of carbon fiber sheets alone, and the number and width of cracks were relatively increased. The results support a considerable effects of end anchorage for carbon fiber strengthened reinforced concrete beams in enhancing the flexural performance. Further studies are needed in durability and long term behavior of carbon fiber sheet strengthened reinforced concrete beams.

  • Advanced composite materials such as carbon fiber, aramid, and glass fiber sheet, are widely used recently to strengthening existing reinforced concrete structures. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the mechanical characteristics of concrete compressive members confined with carbon fiber sheet and evaluate the efficiency of the strengthening under load actions. Uniaxal compression tests of concrete compressive members confined with carbon fiber sheet were experimentally used to develop a relationship between the axial stresses and the lateral stresses. The resulting axial and lateral strains were used to determine the confinement effect of concrete compressive members.

  • It was well recognized that the damages associated mainly with the aging of civil infrastructures were one of very serious problems for assurance of safety and reliability. Recently carbon fiber sheet(CFS) has been widely used for reinforcement and rehabilitation of damaged concrete beam. However, the fundamental mechanism of load transfer and its load-resistant for carbon fiber sheet reinforced concrete are not fully understood. In this study, three point bending test has been carried out to understand the damage progress and the micro-failure mechanism of CFS reinforced mortars. For this purpose, four different types of specimens are used, that is, mortar, steel bar reinforced mortar, CFS reinforced mortar, and steel bar and CFS reinforced morter. Acoustic Emission(AE) technique was used to evaluate the characteristics of damage progress and the failure mechanism of specimens. in addition, two-dimensional AE source location was also performed to monitor crack initiation and propagation processes for these specimens.

  • Most of existing tunnels in Korea have structural and material defects, such as lack of the thickness in the crown and presence of an opening behind thie lining as a result of its construction. In Japan, it is said that carbon fiver sheet is very attractive for the upgrading damaged tunnel due to its good tensile strength, handability and resistance to corrosion. This report is the summary of the applicability of continous carbon fiber sheet for a repair and reiforcement of existing tummel located in Masan. It is the aim of this study to analyze the site data related to consturcion method used carbon fiber sheet.

  • An experimental investigation on the flexural fatigue behavior of a RC bridge slab retrofitted with Carbon Fiber Sheet (CFS) is presented. The test slab was almost identical to the slab of a highway viaduct in terms of the amount of reinforcement, quality of concrete and thickness of the slab, which was 18cm. Repeated load corresponding to 3.0, 4.5 or 6.0 times of the design load was applied to the test slab. Normal type and high-elastic modulus type of CFS were used for strengthening. The test slabs were loaded in dry or wet condition. Two different types of an-choring system were adapted. Some of the test slabs were damaged by the repeated load and retrofitted by CFS, then loaded again to see the improvement of the fatigue life. Infrared Thermography was also performed to investigate the debonding condition of CFS. From the test results, Carbon Fiber Sheet can be applied to the RC bridge slabs as a feasible retrofitting material.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate analytically the flexural behavior characteristics of Circular concrete beams confined by carbon sheet. Nonlinear analysis method is presented to simulate the structural behavior beam models. The proposed analytical hardening models were considered the confinement effect of concrete and the tensile effect of carbon sheet in tensile region of concrete. Prandtl-Reuss numerical formula was used to nonlinear analysis of finite element models. Comparisons analytical models with experimental data obtained from flexural testing in the laboratory were presented. Analytical and experimental models show similar behavior.

  • An experimental research has been performed to investigate capacity of CFCST(Concrete Filled Carbon Sheet Tube) columns because column member is one of the most important structural members. Generally, two shapes of column sections, rectangular and circular shapes, are designed but the circular shape which has constant curvature was chosen for this study. Total 17 column specimens confined by carbon sheet tube were tested using 10,000kN universal test machine(UTM).

  • This study examined the curing temperature of concrete with a photothermal insulation sheet to shorten the curing time of concrete as part of construction cost and period reduction. According to the experiment results, the heating performance effect is confirmed through the temperature difference between photothermal insulation sheet and bubble sheet. And it has a high curing temperature in the order of bubble sheet (photo heating material B) > bubble sheet (photo heating material A) > bubble sheet on same layers.

  • In this study, carbon fiber and coated glass fiber are applied to warp and weft fiber in order to reduce the amount of carbon fiber used in carbon fiber fabrics, which are often used for reinforcement of building structures. A low-cost thermoplastic resin was coated on glass fibers to prepare a shape-stabilizing glass fiber. A unidirectional carbon fiber sheet was manufactured using the prepared coated glass fiber and carbon fiber. In order to identify whether it can be used for reinforcing architectural and civil structures, it was attached to a concrete specimen and its mechanical properties were analyzed. The optimum manufacturing conditions for the coated glass fiber were 0.3 mm in diameter of the coating nozzle, the coating temperature was 190 ℃, and the coating speed was 0.3 m/s. 14 mm was optimal for the weft spacing of the coated glass fiber. The flexural strength of the concrete reinforced with the manufactured unidirectional carbon fiber sheet was slightly lower than that of the concrete reinforced with carbon fiber fabric, but it was confirmed that the reinforcement effect was better when the amount of carbon fiber was considered.
