  • For the $CO_2$ reforming of $CH_4$, Ni catalyst was supported on La-hexaaluminate or on $\gamma$-$Al_2O_3$. The catalytic activities of Ni/La-hexaaluminate catalysts were measured at $700^{\circ}C$ using gas chromatography (GC) for 72 h, and the reaction was maintained up to 72 hfor the investigation of catalyst deactivation. The surface of each catalyst after 72 h reaction was investigated using SEM and TEM, and the composition of the carbon deposits was investigated by using EA, TPO and TGA. Ni/La-hexaaluminate shows higher resistance to coke deposition than conventional Ni/$Al_2O_3$ which seems to be due to strong interaction between Ni and the support material. As a result of the reforming reaction, various types of carbon deposits were created on catalyst surface and the amounts of them were much smaller in the case of La-hexaaluminate than on $Al_2O_3$.

  • Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have attracted much attention as promising materials for transparent conducting films (TCFs), thanks to their superior electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength, and complete flexibility. The CNT-based TCFs can be used in a variety of application fields as flexible, transparent electrodes, including touch panel screens, flexible electronics, transparent heaters, etc. First of all, this study investigated the effect of a variety of surfactants on the dispersion of SWCNTs in an aqueous solution. Following the optimization of the dispersion by surfactants, flexible TCFs were fabricated by spraying the CNT suspension onto poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) substrates. The sheet resistances of the TCFs having different surfactants were investigated with treatment in nitric acid ($HNO_3$) whose concentration and period of treatment time were varied. It seems that the $HNO_3$ removes the surfactants from and is simultaneously doped into the SWCNT network, reducing the contact resistance between CNTs. TCFs were characterized by UV-VIS spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and four-point probe.

  • The current study is dedicated to study the thermal effects of wave propagation in beams, reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNT). Beams, made up of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) are the future materials in various high tech industries. Herein a Winkler elastic foundation is assumed in order to make the model more realistic. Mostly, CNTs are pervaded in cross section of beam, in various models. So, it is tried to use four of the most profitable reconstructions. The homogenization of elastic and thermal properties such as density, Yong's module, Poisson's ratio and shear module of CNTRC beam, had been done by the demotic rule of mixture to homogenize, which gives appropriate traits in such settlements. To make this investigation, a perfect one, various shear deformation theories had been utilized to show the applicability of this theories, in contrast to their theoretical face. The reigning equation had been derived by extended Hamilton principle and the culminant equation solved analytically by scattering relations for propagation of wave in solid bodies. Results had been verified by preceding studies. It is anticipated that current results can be applicable in future studies.

  • Carbon nanotube -copper composite structures were fabricated using composite plating method and their field emission characteristics were investigated. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes synthesized by chemical vapor deposition were used in the present study. It was revealed that turn-on field of the structures was about 3.0 $V/{\mu}m$ at the current density of 0.1 ${\mu}A/cm^2$. We observed relatively uniform emission characteristics as well as stable emission currents. CNT-Cu composite plating method is efficient and it has no intrinsic limit on the plating area. Moreover, it gives strong adhesion between emitters and an electrode. The refore, we expect that CNT-Cu composite plating method can be applied to fabricate electron field emitters for large area FEDs and large area vacuum lighting sources.

  • In this study, a carbon nanotube (CNT) flexible strain sensor was fabricated with CNT based epoxy and rubber composites for tactile sensing. The flexible strain sensor can be fabricated as a long fibrous sensor and it also may be able to measure large deformation and contact information on a structure. The long and flexible sensor can be considered to be a continuous sensor like a dendrite of a neuron in the human body and we named the sensor as a biomimetic artificial neuron. For the application of the neuron in biomimetic engineering, an ANMS (Artificial Neuron Matrix System) was developed by means of the array of the neurons with a signal processing system. Moreover, a strain positioning algorithm was also developed to find localized tactile information of the ANMS with Labview for the application of an artificial e-skin.

  • In this paper, the properties of strain sensors made of spin-capable multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were characterized and their sensing mechanisms analyzed. The key contribution of this paper is a new fabrication technique that introduces a simpler transfer method compared to spin-coating or dispersion CNT. Resistance of the MWCNT sheet strain sensor increased linearly with higher strain. To investigate the effect of CNT concentration on sensitivity, two strain sensors with different layer numbers of MWCNT sheets (one and three layers) were fabricated. According to the results, the sensor with a three-layer sheet showed higher sensitivity than that with one layer. In addition, experiments were conducted to examine the effects of environmental factors, temperature, and gas on sensor sensitivity. An increase in temperature resulted in a reduction in sensor sensitivity. It was also observed that ambient gas influenced the properties of the MWCNT sheet due to charge transfer. Experimental results showed that there was a linear change in resistance in response to strain, and the resistance of the sensor fully recovered to its unstressed state and exhibited stable electromechanical properties.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) effects on physical properties of the liquid crystal and twisted nematic (TN) liquid crystal (LC) cells have been investigated. The minute doping of CNTs reduces rotational viscosity of the LC, and thus switching time of the TN cells is improved, especially in grey scale response time. In addition, the dielectric anisotropy and birefringence are not affected by such a small amount of CNT-doping and thus voltage-dependent transmittance remains the same.

  • Carbon nanotubes(CNT) has chemical stability and great sensitivity characteristics. In particular, the gas sensor required characteristics such as rapid, selectivity and sensitivity sensor. Therefore, CNT are ideal materials to gas sensor. So, we fabricated the NOx gas sensors of MOS-FET type using the MWCNT (multi-walled carbon nanotube). The fabricated sensor was used to detect the NOx gas for the variation of $V_{gs}$(gate-source voltage) and electrode changed electrode spacing=30, 60, 90[${\mu}m$]. The gas sensor absorbed with the NOx gas molecules showed the decrease of resistance, and the sensitivity of sensor was increased by magnification of electrode spacing. Furthermore, when the voltage($V_{gs}$) was applied to the gas sensor, the decrease in resistance was increased. On the other hand, the sensor sensitivity for the injection of NOx gas was the highest value at the electrode spacing $90[{\mu}m]$. We also obtained the adsorption energy($U_a$) using the Arrhenius plots by the reduction of resistance due to the voltage variations. As a result, we obtained that the adsorption energy was increased with the increment of the applied voltages.

  • We fabricated a printed Ag:CNT film as a liquid sensor for the detection of HNS (hazardous and noxious substances) in seawater. The paste required for printing was prepared using Ag powder, MWCNTs (multi-walled carbon nanotubes), and an organic binder. The heat treatment process for binder removal was optimized. In order to confirm that the sensor was operational, the resistance change characteristics in brine (3.5%) and methanol (99.8%) were assessed at $20^{\circ}C$. EDL (electrical double layer) formation and redox reactivity were confirmed as the most important reactions affect each electrical property of sensor in brine and methanol. From these results, it was determined that printed Ag:CNT film can be applied as a sensor to detect HNS in seawater.

  • In the present work, an extensive study for predicting efficiency parameters (i) of various simulated nanocomposites including Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as matrix and different structures including various sizes of graphene platelets (GPLs), single, double, and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs-DWCNTs-MWCNTs), and single and double-walled boron nitride nanotubes (SWBNNTs-DWBNNTs) are investigated. It should be stated that GPLs, carbon and boron nitride nanotubes (CNTs, BNNT) with different chiralities (5, 0), (5, 5), (10, 0), and (10, 10) as reinforcements are considered. In this research, molecular dynamics (MDs) method with Materials studio software is applied to examine the mechanical properties (Young's modulus) of simulated nanocomposite boxes and calculate η1 of each nanocomposite boxes. Then, it is noteworthy that by changing length (6.252, 10.584, and 21.173 nm) and width (7.137, 10.515, and 19.936) of GPLs, 1, 2, and 3 approximately becomes (0.101, 0.114, and 0.124), (1.15, 1.22, and 1.26), (1.04, 1.05, and 1.07) respectively. After that efficiency parameters of SWCNTs, DWCNTs, and MWCNTs are calculated and discussed separately. Finally efficiency parameters of SWBNNTs and DWBNNTs with different chiralities by PMMA as matrix are determined by MD and discussed separately. It is known that the accurate efficiency parameters helps a lot to calculate the properties of nanocomposite analytically. In particular, the obtained results from this research can be used for analytical work based on the extended rule of mixture (ERM) in bending, buckling and vibration analysis of structure in future study.
