To improve the dispersion of platinum catalyst, the effects of carbon black surface treatment, solvents, surfactants, and ultrasonic homogenizing were examined. Upon introducing the hydrophilic groups acting as an anchorage center of the catalyst on the surface of carbon black by oxidation, the migrating and growing of platinum particles(or ions) during reduction could be restricted. When mixed solvents, surfactants, or ultrasonic homogenizer were used to disperse catalysts on the carbon black, the dispersion of catalyst could be improved, due to the good permeation of chloroplatinic acid through the pore of carbon black. Among the impregnation methods, the method using ultrasonic homogenizer with mixed solvent was the most excellent. Using this method the particle sized could be minimized in less than $30A^{\circ}$ and distributed homogeneously.
In this work, we prepared the carbon paper from chopped carbon fibers using a gas diffusion matrix in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells by wet processing. The process of making carbon paper using wet processing is consisted of the three steps involving the dispersion of chopped carbon fibers, the preparation of the carbon fiber web, the impregnating of phenol resin. This work was focused on finding the optimal surfactant to make the carbon paper with 2D orientation of carbon fibers by investigating the dispersion state of carbon fibers in different dispersion solutions. Furthermore, the effect of phenol resin and carbon black contents on properties of electric conductivity was analyzed. As a result, it is confirmed that the carbon fiber was well dispersed when using sodium dodecyl sulfate as a surfactant, and the carbon paper with 8 wt% of phenol and 5 wt% of carbon black contents showed the most excellent electrical property.

Carbon black has been widely used in composites, tonor resin, and ink materials. Since carbon black readily agglomerates, it is important to disperse carbon black in real applications. Aiming to improve dispersion stability, carbon black was chemically oxidized to possess hydroxyl groups using a phase transfer catalyst at room temperature. The modified carbon black (CB-OH) was grafted by a silane coupling agent, p-methylacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, to carry teminal vinyl groups. The modified carbon black was subsequently used in miniemulsion polymerization to achieve encapsulted core-shell structure. Finally, well-encapsulated carbon black by polymer was obtained in the size range of 100-500 nm. Throughout the polymerization, the effects of surface modification, types of monomers, initiators, and emulsifiers were investigated.

To measure modulus, damping properties and smoothness of semiconducting materials in power cable, we have investigated those of semiconducting materials showed by changing the content of carbon black. Then they were produced as sheets after pressing for 20 minutes at 180[$^{\circ}C$] with a pressure of 200[kg/cm$^{2}$]. The content of conductive carbon black was the variable, and their contents were 20, 30 and 40[wt$\%$], respectively. The modulus and tans were measured by DMA 2980. The ranges of measurement temperature were from -50[$^{\circ}C$] to 100[$^{\circ}C$] and measurement frequency was 1[Hz3. The modulus of specimens was increased according to a increment of a carbon black content. And modulus was rapidly decreased at the glass transition temperature. The tans of specimens was decreased according to a increment of a carbon black content. The smoothness was measured by JSM-6400. EEA resin from SEM measurement was best the dispersion of carbon back in base resin.

A die casting mold releasing agent was prepared from aqueous mixture of powdery carbon black and water soluble natural polymeric materials such as xanthan gum(X-gum) and carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC), which were used as thickening agent as well as curing agent with aldehydes. The suitable concentration of natural polymers for stable dispersion of carbon black in water was 0.25 wt% of X-gum or 1.0 wt% of CMC. When CMC was used less than 1 wt%, the final carbon black disperion showed a rapid phase separation. The adhesion of carbon black releasing agent on glass plate was improved with the amount of crosslinking agent, glutaraldehyde and chain extender, oligosaccharide. However, the affinity of carbon black releasing agent prepared with X-gum was stronger than that with CMC on glass plate. The final carbon black mold releasing agents prepared under our mixing conditions can be applied to the production of castings of high quality with good workability and without worthening evironmental situations.
This paper explores the use of a variety of carbon nanoparticles to impart electrical, thermal conductivity, good frictional properties to silicon nitride matrices. We used the highly promising types of carbon as carbon nanotubes, exfoliated graphene and carbon black nanograins. A high-efficiency attritor mill has also been used for proper dispersion of second phases in the matrix. The sintered silicon nitride composites retained the mechanical robustness of the original systems. Bending strength as high as 700 MPa was maintained and an electrical conductivity of 10 S/m was achieved in the case of 3 wt% multiwall carbon nanotube addition. Electrically conductive silicon nitride ceramics were realized by using carbon nanophases. Examples of these systems, methods of fabrication, electrical percolation, mechanical, thermal and tribological properties are discussed.
Carbon Black has various advantageous properties such as reinforcement, tinting, weathering, chemical resistance, electrical resistance, etc., but it has poor affinity in the solution. The purpose of this study is to enhance dispersion in the aqueous solution by altering the surface characteristics. Two different treatments were applied for both channel black and furnace black respectively. Channel black was treated in alkaline solution to replace hydrogen of the carboxyl group with alkaline metal, Li, Na, K. Furnace black has few functional groups, and it was treated with $HNO_3$ to increase the number of functional group on carbon black. It was seen that the substitution of alkaline metal on the surface of channel black enhances the degree of dispersion. Also the higher the acid concentration and reaction temperature, the more the number of some functional groups on the furnace black. Reaction time was not seen to be effective.
This study investigates the dispersibility of carbon in carbon contained ammonium diuranate (C-ADU) gel particles and the characteristics of C-ADU gel liquid droplets produced by the vibrating nozzle and integrated aging-washing-drying equipment. It was noted that the excellent stability of carbon dispersion was only observed in the C-ADU gel particle that contained carbon black named CB 10. ADU gel liquid droplets containing carbon particles with the excellent sphericity of approximately 1,950 mm were then obtained using an 80-100-Hz vibrating nozzle system. Dried C-ADU gel particles obtained by the aging-washing-drying equipment were thermal decomposed until $500^{\circ}C$ at a rate of $1^{\circ}C/min$ in an air or in 4% $H_2$ gas atmosphere. The thermally decomposed C-ADU gel particles showed 24% weight loss and a more complicated profile than that of ADU gel particles.
Use of the carbon nanotube is superior to general powder state materials of dispersion property. Because its ratio of diameter and length(aspect ratio) is very large, it has been known as a type of ideal nano-reinforcement composite. It used solution mixing method for specimen fabrication. To research dispersion property, we used FE-SEM(Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope) and AFM(Atomic Force Microscope). As a result, this tendency confirms new conductivity network in which the carbon nanotube between carbon black constitute molecules shows a bond by similar constructive property.
Generating electricity by using water in many energy harvesting system is due to their simplicity, sustainability and eco-friendliness. Evaporation-driven moist-electric generators (EMEGs) are an emergent technology and show great potential for harvesting clean energy. In this study, we report a transpiration driven electro kinetic power generator (TEPG) that utilize capillary flow of water in an asymmetrically wetted cotton fabric coated with carbon black. When water droplets encounter this textile EMEG, the water flows spontaneously under capillary action without requiring an external power supply. First carbon black sonicated and dispersed well in three different solvent system such as dimethylformamide (DMF), sodiumdedecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS-anionic surfactant) and cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB-cationic surfactant). A knitted cotton/PET fabric was coated with carbon black by conventional pad method. Cotton/PET fabrics were immersed and stuttered well in these three different systems and then transferred to an autoclave at 120 ℃ for 15 minutes. Cotton/PET fabric treated with carbon black dispersed in DMF solvent generated maximum current up to 5 µA on a small piece of sample (2 µL/min of water can induce constant electric output for more than 286 hours). This study is high value for designing of electric generator to harvest clean energy constantly.
