The multi type heat pump system may provide more energy savings and better environmental conditions than the single type heat pump system may do. In order to design a multi type heat pump system, it may be recommended to develop the system simulation program, which can predict the characteristics of the system such as unit capacities, power consumptions, and system COP's. In this study, the steady state simulation program of the multi type heat pump system was developed. The results from the simulation program were compared with those from the experimental tests which were performed in the environmental chamber, Cooling tests show 3.11% and 0.94% of error in capacity and COP, and heating tests show 3.30% and 1.90% of error in capacity and COP, respectively. Therefore, the steady state simulation program developed for this study can effectively be used for the design and the performance prediction of the multi type heat pump system.

Herein, a novel operating life (OL) test method was evaluated with 200 mAh pouch-type lithium-ion batteries. By combining the calendar life (CL) test with intermediate pulse power cycling, more realistic life prediction was possible, which encompassed real operation of batteries accompanying with thermal acceleration. Larger capacity decrease and resistance increase of pouch cell were observed in the OL test, which was well explained using the SEI film growth model. After dissemble of pouch cell, capacity loss and resistance increase mostly occurred within anode, reflecting that SEI film growth on anode surface was highly attributable to cell degradation.
Reusing the used pile has not yet been implemented due to the unpredictability of the bearing capacity evolution. This paper presents an analytic approach to estimate the sides shear setup after the dissipation of pore pressure. Long-term evolution of adjacent soil is simulated by viscoelastic-plastic constitutive model. Then, an innovative concept of quasi-overconsolidation is proposed to estimate the strength changes of surrounding soil. Total stress method (α method) is employed to evaluate the long term bearing capacity. Measured data of test piles in Louisiana and semi-logarithmic time function are cited to validate the effectiveness of the presented method. Comparisons illustrate that the presented approach gives a reasonably prediction of the side shear setup. Both the presented method and experiment show the shaft resistance increase by 30%-50%, and this highlight the potential benefit of piles reutilization.
As the most popular shear connection in composite structures, mature concrete has been widely investigated by considering mechanical properties of stud connectors (SCs) embedded. To further enhance the fabrication efficiency of composite structures and solve the contradiction between construction progress and structural performance, it is required to analyze the shear performance of stud connections of composite structures with different concrete ages. 18 typical vertical push-out tests were carried out on stud shear connectors at concrete ages of 7 days, 14 days, and 28 days. Also, the effects of concrete age, stud spacing and stud diameter on the shear capacity, connection stiffness and failure mode of the connectors were studied. A new relationship expression of load-slip for SCs with various concrete ages was proposed. The existing design code for the SCs shear strength was evaluated according to the experimental data, and a more practical prediction equation for the shear capacity of SCs with different concrete ages was established. A great agreement was observed between the experimental and theoretical results, which can provide a reference for engineering practices.
This study presents an innovative AI-driven approach to assess the ultimate axial load in Double-Skinned Profiled Steel sheet Composite Walls (DPSCWs). Utilizing a dataset of 80 entries, seven input parameters were employed, and various AI techniques, including Linear Regression, Polynomial Regression, Support Vector Regression, Decision Tree Regression, Decision Tree with AdaBoost Regression, Random Forest Regression, Gradient Boost Regression Tree, Elastic Net Regression, Ridge Regression, and LASSO Regression, were evaluated. Decision Tree Regression and Random Forest Regression emerged as the most accurate models. The top three performing models were integrated into a hybrid approach, excelling in accurately estimating DPSCWs' ultimate axial load. This adaptable hybrid model outperforms traditional methods, reducing errors in complex scenarios. The validated Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model showcases less than 1% error, enhancing reliability. Correlation analysis highlights robust predictions, emphasizing the importance of steel sheet thickness. The study contributes insights for predicting DPSCW strength in civil engineering, suggesting optimization and database expansion. The research advances precise load capacity estimation, empowering engineers to enhance construction safety and explore further machine learning applications in structural engineering.
Long-term variations in wind speed and capacity factor(CF) on Seongsan wind farm of Jeju Island, South Korea were derived statistically. The selected areas for this study were Subji, having a year wind data at 30m above ground level, Sinsan, having 30-year wind data at 10m above ground level and Seongsan wind farm, where long-term CF was predicted. The Measure-Correlate-Predict module of WindPRO was used to predict long-tem wind characteristics at Seongsan wind farm. Eachyear's CF was derived from the estimated 30-year time series wind data by running WAsP module. As a result, for the 30-year CFs, Seongsan wind farm was estimated to have 8.3% for the coefficien to fvariation, CV, and-16.5% ~ 13.2% for the range of variation, RV. It was predicted that the annual CF at Seongsan wind farm varied within about ${\pm}4%$.
Under the supply-oriented policy, efficiency and rationale have not been fully considered in planning of water supply facilities in Korea. As a case, this study shows that large-size systems are suffering from overcapacity problem of water treatment plants, and thus discusses what options should be applied to deal with inefficiency. Water demand of large-size systems has suddenly decreased for the last 10 years while water demand has been often assumed to increase at a regular rate in planning of plants according to excess capacity hypothesis. This inconsistency led to a serious overcapacity. In 2006, total excess capacity of nine large-size systems was more than 1.2 times as large as maximum daily demand of total customers in Seoul. However, their options are expected to stay ex post facto. To prepare the risk of overcapacity, and draw large benefits out of the plants, the authors and other professionals in Korea should further discuss the more adaptive method for prediction of water demand, and systems integration between a large-size system and adjoining systems.
Because of financial and safety concerns, there are needs for more accurate prediction of bridge behavior. Underestimation of the bridge load carrying capacity can have serious economic consequences, as deficient bridges must be repaired or rehabilitated. Therefore, the knowledge of the actual bridge behavior under live load may lead to a more realistic calculation of the load carrying capacity and eventually this may allow for more bridges to remain in service with or without minor repairs. The presented research is focused on the reliability evaluation of the actual load carrying capacity of existing bridges based on the field testing. Seventeen existing bridges were tested under truck load to confirm their adequacy of reliability. The actual response of existing bridge structures under live load is measured. Reliability analysis is performed on the selected representative bridges designed in accordance with AASHTO codes for bridge component (girder). Bridges are first evaluated based on the code specified values and design resistance. However, after the field testing program, it is possible to apply the experimental results into the bridge reliability evaluation procedures. Therefore, the actual response of bridge structures, including unintentional composite action, partial fixity of supports, and contribution of nonstructural members are considered in the bridge reliability evaluation. The girder distribution factors obtained from the tests are also applied in the reliability calculation. The results indicate that the reliability indices of selected bridges can be significantly increased by reducing uncertainties without sacrificing the safety of structures, by including the result of field measurement data into calculation.

The end bearing behavior of piles socketed in weathered/soft rock is generally dependent upon the mass conditions of rock with fractures rather than the strength of intact rock. However, there are few available data and little guidance in the prediction of the end bearing capacity of drilled shafts socketed in weathered/soft rock, considering rock mass weathering. Therefore, a database of 13 load tests was constructed first, and new empirical relationships between the base reaction modulus of piles in rock and rock mass properties were developed. No correlation was found between the compressive strengths of intact rock and the base reaction modulus of weathered/soft rock. The ground investigation data regarding the rock mass conditions(e.g. Em, Eur, RMR, RQD) was found to be highly correlated with the base reaction modulus, showing the coefficients of correlation greather than 0.7 in most cases. Additionally, the applicability of existing methods for the end bearing capacity of piles in rock was verified by comparison with the field test data.

The quantity of gas which can be supplied by LPG storage tank become a standard of selection. In the absence of the maximum evaporation rates from LPG storage tanks by tank capacity, continuation using time, air temperature, it is in a problem for the dissemination of LPG Storage tanks. In this paper, we showed the maximum evaporation rates from LPG storage tanks by tank capacity, air temperature, continuous using time and remaining level.
