  • This paper deals with the second-order differential equation (p(t)x'(t))' + g(t)f(t, x(t), x'(t)) = 0, a.e. in (0, $\infty$) with the boundary conditions $$x(0)={\int}^{\infty}_0g(s)x(s)ds,\;{lim}\limits_{t{\rightarrow}{\infty}}p(t)x'(t)=0,$$ where $g\;{\in}\;L^1[0,{\infty})$ with g(t) > 0 on [0, $\infty$) and ${\int}^{\infty}_0g(s)ds\;=\;1$, f is a g-Carath$\acute{e}$odory function. By applying the coincidence degree theory, the existence of at least one solution is obtained.

A $C^2$ SURFACE EXTENSION METHOD USING SEVERAL CONTROL FUNCTIONS

  • We suggest a method of $C^2$ surface extension with the aid of well-controlled functions. The extended surface is $C^2$ continuous along the old boundary. The function of the extension surface is obtained by replacing the monomials in the quadratic Taylor polynomial of the given surface-representing function by other functions subject to some boundary conditions. We present several sets of control functions. In order to illustrate our suggestion, it is shown that surfaces with a circular boundary and a square boundary can be extended using several base functions.

  • The existence of solution of the fractional order differential equations is very important mathematical field. Thus, in this work, we discuss, under some hypothesis, the existence of a positive solution for the nonlinear fourth order fractional boundary value problem which includes the p-Laplacian transform. The proposed method in the article is based on the fixed point theorem. More precisely, Krasnosilsky's theorem on a fixed point and some properties of the Green's function were used to study the existence of a solution for fourth order fractional boundary value problem. The main theoretical result of the paper is explained by example.

  • This article introduces the five functions of the national innovation system (NIS). As the national innovation system is a kind of social systems in the national level, the five generic functions of open system-production boundary spanning, maintenance, adaptation management functions-are applied to the NIS. The production function is the primary process, which produces innovative products and services of the NIS. The boundary spanning function is the function of procuring the input and disposing the innovation output or aiding in these process. Experienced R&D human resources, R&D funds, technology etc. belong to the input of the NIS. The maintenance function is responsible for the smooth operation and upkeep of the system in terms of various conditions. The adaptive function is to help the system change and adapt, scan the environment for problems, opportunities, and technological developments. It faces outward for the survival of the system from the long-term view. The management function carries out planning and controlling the overall activities for the other four functions in order to run the system. Finally it discuses implications for the diagnosis and the decision making process of S&T policy.

  • This paper deals with the very interesting problem about the influence of piecewise smooth boundary conditions on the distribution of the eigenvalues of the negative Laplacian in R$^3$. The asymptotic expansion of the trace of the wave operator (equation omitted) for small |t| and i=√-1, where (equation omitted) are the eigenvalues of the negative Laplacian (equation omitted) in the (x$^1$, x$^2$, x$^3$)-space, is studied for an annular vibrating membrane $\Omega$ in R$^3$together with its smooth inner boundary surface S$_1$and its smooth outer boundary surface S$_2$. In the present paper, a finite number of Dirichlet, Neumann and Robin boundary conditions on the piecewise smooth components (equation omitted)(i = 1,...,m) of S$_1$and on the piecewise smooth components (equation omitted)(i = m +1,...,n) of S$_2$such that S$_1$= (equation omitted) and S$_2$= (equation omitted) are considered. The basic problem is to extract information on the geometry of the annular vibrating membrane $\Omega$ from complete knowledge of its eigenvalues by analysing the asymptotic expansions of the spectral function (equation omitted) for small |t|.

진행성 유한진폭파로 인한 정상성 경계층류 (Steady Boundary Layer Flow under the Influence of Progressive Finite Amplitude Wave)

  • 進行性 有限 振幅波가 수평인 底部 境界面 위에 存在할 때 이 波로 因하여 境界面에 인접해서 形成되는 定常流(steady stream)를 硏究하였다. 이를 위하여 境界層 方程式이 使用되었으며, 이것을 二重 Fourier 系別로 展開함으로써 그 解를 구하였다. 이 解의 垂直, 構造를 水深과 波長의 比(h/L)의 양수로 表示하였다. 有限 振幅波가 가장 잘 適用될 수 있는 條件下에서 境界層의 定常流를 구해본 結果 이 定常波는 물의 粘性에는 無關하며 그 上部에 있는 有限 振幅波의 파라메타들, 즉 週期, 波長등과 水深의 計數임이 確認 되었다. 또 이 境界層의 定常流의 速度는 파속과, 水深에 대한 波高의 比(H/L)의 제곱에 比例함이 밝혀졌으며, 이 正常流의 크기는 h/L이 0.5보다 클때에는 아주 작아져서 無意味한 값이 된다.

수도권에서 유출류 경계(Outflow Boundary)를 따라 발생한 집중호우 분석 (Analysis of An Outflow Boundary Induced Heavy Rainfall That Occurred in the Seoul Metropolitan Area)

  • In Korea, property and human damages occur annually due to heavy precipitation during the summer. On August 8, 2015, heavy rainfall occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area due to an outflow boundary, and $77mmhr^{-1}$ rainfall was recorded in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province. In this study, the simulation of the WRF numerical model is performed to understand the cause and characteristics of heavy rainfall using the Conditional Instability of the Second Kind (CISK), potential vorticity (PV), frontogenesis function, and convective available potential energy (CAPE) analyses, etc. Convective cells initiated over the Shandong Peninsula and located on the downwind side of an upper level trough. Large amounts of water vapor were supplied to the Shandong Peninsula along the southwestern edge of a high pressure system, and from the remnants of typhoon Soudelor. The mesoscale convective system (MCS) developed through CISK process and moved over to the Yellow Sea. The outflow boundary from the MCS progressed east and pushed cold pool eastward. The warm and humid air over the Korean Peninsula further enhanced convective development. As a result, a new MCS developed rapidly over land. Because of the latent heat release due to convection and precipitation, strong potential vorticity was generated in the lower atmosphere. The rapid development of MCS and the heavy rainfall occurred in an area where the CAPE value was greater than $1300Jkg^{-1}$ and the fronto-genesis function value of 1.5 or greater coincided. The analysis result shows that the MCS driven by an outflow boundary can be identified using CISK process.

BOUNDARY BEHAVIOR OF HOLOMORPHIC DISCS IN CONVEX FINITE TYPE DOMAINS

  • In this paper, we study holomorphic discs in a domain with a plurisubharmonic peak function at a boundary point. The aim is to describe boundary behavior of holomorphic discs in convex finite type domains in the complex Euclidean space in term of a special local neigh-borhood system at a boundary point.

  • Turbulent boundary layer noise is already a significant contributor to sonar self noise. For developing acoustic window of sonar system to reduce self noise, a parametric study of design factors of acoustic window is presented. Distance of sensor array from acoustic window, materials of acoustic window and characteristics of damping layer are studied as design factors to influence in the characteristics of the transfer function of self noise. As the result, these design factors make change the characteristics of transfer function slightly. Among design factors the location of sensor array is most important parameter in the self noise reduction

Reconfigurable Flight Control System Design Using Sliding Mode Based Model Following Control Scheme

  • In this paper, a reconfigurable flight control system is designed by applying the sliding mode control scheme. The sliding mode control method is a nonlinear control method which has been widely used because of its merits such as robustness and flexibility. In the sliding mode controller design, the signum function is usually included, but it causes the undesirable chattering problem. The chattering phenomenon can be avoided by using the saturation function instead of signum function. However, the boundary layer of the sliding surface should be carefully treated because of the use of the saturation function. In contrast to the conventional approaches, the thickness of the boundary layer of our approach does not need to be small. The reachability to the boundary layer is guaranteed by the sliding mode controller. The fault detection and isolation process is operated based on a sliding mode observer. To evaluate the reconfiguration performance, a numerical simulation using six degree-of-freedom aircraft dynamics is performed.
