In this paper, we present a new analytical model that can precisely estimate the blocking performance of wavelength-routed WDM networks with sparse-partial-limited wavelength conversion (SPLWC). The proposed model accounts for the two sources of call blocking in a wavelength converter: range blocking originated from the limited conversion range of a wavelength converter; and capacity blocking induced from the limited number of wavelength converters. Based on the proposed model, we also present a new converter placement algorithm that minimizes the amount of wavelength conversion capability, while satisfying the given constraint on the network-wide blocking probability. From the numerical results obtained from the EON, we demonstrate that the blocking probability of the analytical model closely matches with that of the simulation. We also show that, by efficiently combining the existing sparse, partial, and limited wavelength conversion, the SPL WC can achieve the required blocking performance with the least amount of wavelength conversion cost.

In this paper, we proposed the channel assignment scheme for the CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) cellular system using power allocation concept. Also, the performance of the proposed scheme was analyzed and it was compared with the channel assignment scheme using the fixed power allocation method in the CDMA cellular system. The proposed scheme allocates the power adaptively in according to the traffic loads and the traffic distribution pattern of neighbor cells in the forward link. We found that total call blocking probability (Pr) is more dependent on blocking probability($P_B$) than outage probability (Po) under physical number of channels ($C_{th}$)=30. Pr(Call Blocking Probability) is dependent on $P_B$(Blocking Probability) and Po(Outage Probability) at the same ratio under $C_{th}$=32, in which case P$P_{TA}$(blocking probability for the adaptive power allocation) is greater than $P_{TF}$(blocking probability for the fixed power allocation) about 6%.

In recent practice a half round prismatic bar has fillet welded or formed through foundry work along the centerline on rear concave surface of the horn to mitigate gap flow between fixed and movable part of the rudder system. When the gap clearance has been blocked with this practice, numerical simulations indicate that the practices are not only effective in reducing the gap flow but also in mitigating the cavitation. The blocking effects are remarkably improved when a pair of blocking bar is bisymmetrically attached with respect to centerline on the opposite convex surface of the movable part. The blocking bar could be placed on the exposed surface under maximum rudder angle. This implies that the blocking bar could be easily adopted not only in a design stage but also in a maintenance stage for mitigating rudder cavitation. In addition, the numerical simulations imply that more improvements could be anticipated through the selection of section shape of prismatic bar for gap flow blocking.
Recently, as the development of industry, the nonlinear load becomes increased. Because of nonlinear load, the variation of source voltage is generated by the impedace of source side flowed harmonic currents. For blocking harmonic currents by nonlinear load, a series active power filter operates blocking resistance of harmonic currents. The value of blocking resistance shows ideal compensating characteristic out of theoretically infinite value. But the blocking resistance is limited by the problem of the system stability and the capacity of inverter. In this paper, the value of optimum blocking resistance is found by a simulation in the applied system. In the case of unbalanced source voltages, each relation of the blocking resistance is shown. It is proved that blocking resistance of series active power filter relates to a passive filter.

In this study, short-circuit preventive layer (blocking layer) was deposited between conductive transparent electrode and porous $TiO_2$ film in the DSSCs. As blocking layer, we selected the metal-oxide such as $TiO_2$, $Nb_2O_5$ and ZnO. The sheet resistance with each different blocking layers were 18 ${\Omega}/sq.$ for the $TiO_2$, 10 ${\Omega}/sq.$ for the $Nb_2O_5$ and 8 ${\Omega}/sq.$ for the ZnO, while the RMS (Root Mean Square) roughness value of DSSCs were 39.61 nm for the $TiO_2$, 41.84 nm for the $Nb_2O_5$ and 36.14 nm for the ZnO respectively. From the results of photocurrent-voltage curves, a sputtered $Nb_2O_5$ blocking layer showed higher performance on 2.64% of photo-electrochemical properties. The maximum of conversion efficiency which was achieved under 1 sun irradiation by depositing the blocking layer increased up to 0.56%.
Application of a generalized equivalent circuit including the electrode condition for the Hebb-Wagner polarization in the frequency domain proposed by Jamnik and Maier can provide a consistent set of material parameters, such as the geometric capacitance, partial conductivities, chemical capacitance or diffusivity, as well as electrode characteristics. Generalization of the shunt capacitors for the chemical capacitance by the constant phase elements (CPEs) was applied to a model mixed conducting system, $Ag_2S$, with electron-blocking AgI electrodes and ion-blocking Pt electrodes. While little difference resulted for the electron-blocking cell with almost ideal Warburg behavior, severely non-ideal behavior in the case of Pt electrodes not only necessitates a generalized transmission line model with shunt CPEs but also requires modelling of the leakage in the cell approximately proportional to the cell conductance, which then leads to partial conductivity values consistent with the electron-blocking case. Chemical capacitance was found to be closer to the true material property in the electron-blocking cell while excessively high chemical capacitance without expected silver activity dependence resulted in the electron-blocking cell. A chemical storage effect at internal boundaries is suggested to explain the anomalies in the respective blocking configurations.

In this paper, the output characteristics of GaN-based LED considering blocking layer design variables are analyzed. The basic structure of the LED consists of active region of GaN barrier and InGaN quantum well between AlGaN EBL(Electron Blocking Layer) and AlGaN HBL(Hole Blocking Layer) on GaN buffer layer. The output power, internal quantum efficiency characteristics of LED active region considering Al mole fraction of EBL, thickness of EBL, Al mole fraction of HBL and doping concentration of HBL are analyzed using ISE-TCAD.
Objectives : To investigate the role of Meridian flow on acupuncture effect, we observed the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture (EA) after Meridian blocking with pressure in arthritic rats. Methods : To make reliable and local monoarthritis, $40{\;}{\mu}l$ complete Freund's adjuvant was injected into the tibio-tarsal joint. EA was applied on acupoint GB30 while 5 Pascal pressure was added to the middle of the Gall bladder Meridian around GB31 between acupoint GB30 and arthritic foci (ipsilateral meridian blocking: IB) or opposite part of IB (contralateral part blocking: CB). To observe the change of arthritis, extension and flexion pain scores and circumferential differences were evaluated once a week. Results : EA stimulation without blocking reduced arthritic pain significantly. IB abolished the acupuncture effects and there was no statistical difference with the arthritic control group, whereas the CB group still showed the therapeutic effects of acupuncture. Conclusions : This finding strongly supports that the Meridian blocking with local pressure reduced the therapeutic effect of EA.
An atomic commitment protocol ensures that distributed transcations terminate consistently at participating sites. An atomic commitment protocol is said to be non-blocking if it permits transaction termination to proceed at correct participants despite of failure in the coordinator site and communication. It is well known that the famous two phase commit(2PC) is a blocking protocol, whereas the three phase commit(3PC) protocol is a non-blocking. In this paper, we propose a non-blocking two phase commit(NB-2PC) protocol reducing the blocking problem than propose non-blocking protocols. The NB-2PC protocol can be obtained through modifications of the 2PC protocol. After receiving Prepare message from coordinator in the NB-2PC protocol, participants respond to the coordinator and several participants in voting phase. While participants wait for decision message from the coordinator, the blocking occurs due to the failure of the coordinator site, participants elect new coordinator among several participants receive response message. Despite of the coordinator site failures, participants consult new coordinator and follow termination protocols and achieve non-blocking property. We propose a basic structure of NB-2PC protocol and termination protocol and new coordinator election protocol. The NB-2PC protocol has non-blocking property and reduces processing time of commit protocol than the 3PC protocol. Also, through simulation experiments, we propose the NB-2PC protocol exhibits better performance of processing time of commit protocol than 3PC protocol.
In this paper, I develop a simple dynamic resource allocation algorithm that reduces the call blocking rate by improving the resource utilization of the WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) systems under multimedia service environment. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm significantly reduces the blocking rate of high speed multimedia calls. The algorithm developed in this paper is currently working in the commercial WCDMA IMT-2000 system.
