In this paper, a low power 4th order delta-sigma modulator was designed with a high resolution of 12 bits or more for the biological signal processing. Using time-interleaving technique, 4th order delta-sigma modulator was designed with one operational amplifier. So power consumption can be reduced to 1/4 than a conventional structure. To operate stably in the big difference between the two capacitor for kT/C noise and chip size, the variable-stage amplifier was designed. In the first phase and second phase, the operational amplifier is operating in a 2-stage. In the third and fourth phase, the operational amplifier is operating in a 1-stage. This was significantly improved the stability of the modulator because the phase margin exists within 60~90deg. The proposed delta-sigma modulator is designed in a standard $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS n-well 1 poly 6 Metal technology and dissipates the power of $354{\mu}W$ with supply voltage of 1.8V. The ENOB of 11.8bit and SNDR of 72.8dB at 250Hz input frequency and 256kHz sampling frequency. From measurement results FOM1 is calculated to 49.6pJ/step and FOM2 is calculated to 154.5dB.

In a large DNA database, indexing techniques are widely used for rapid approximate sequence searching. However, most indexing techniques require a space larger than original databases, and also suffer from difficulties in seamless integration with DBMS. In this paper, we suggest a space-efficient and disk-based indexing and query processing algorithm for approximate DNA sequence searching, specially exact match queries, wildcard match queries, and k-mismatch queries. Our indexing method places a sliding window at every possible location of a DNA sequence and extracts its signature by considering the occurrence frequency of each nucleotide. It then stores a set of signatures using a multi-dimensional index, such as R*-tree. Especially, by assigning a weight to each position of a window, it prevents signatures from being concentrated around a few spots in index space. Our query processing algorithm converts a query sequence into a multi-dimensional rectangle and searches the index for the signatures overlapped with the rectangle. The experiments with real biological data sets revealed that the proposed method is at least three times, twice, and several orders of magnitude faster than the suffix-tree-based method in exact match, wildcard match, and k- mismatch, respectively.

Biomimetic robots, which emulate characteristics of biological entities such as birds or insects, have the potential to offer a tactical advantage in surveillance and reconnaissance in future battlefields. To effectively utilize these robots, it is essential to develop technologies that emulate the wing flapping of birds or the movements of cockroaches. However, this effort is complicated by the challenges associated with securing the necessary hardware and the complexities involved in software development and validation processes. In this paper, we presents the design and implementation of a multi-HILS based biomimic robot software validation testbed using modeling and simulation (M&S). By employing this testbed, developers can overcome the absence of hardware, simulate future battlefield scenarios, and conduct software development and testing. However, the multi-HILS based testbed may experience inter-device communication delays as the number of test robots increases, significantly affecting the reliability of simulation results. To address this issue, we propose the data distribution service priority (DDSP), a priority-based middleware. DDSP demonstrates an average delay reduction of 1.95 ms compared to the existing DDS, ensuring the required data transmission quality for the testbed.
It is not known whether negative symptoms and cognitive functions are dissociable or improvements in symptoms are reflected in improvements in cognitive functions in chronic schizophrenic patients. We administered clozapine to evaluate its effect on cognitive functions in chronic schizophrenic patients and to show correlations between improvement in psychotic symptoms and in cognitive functions. Neuropsychological tests such as Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Digit Span test and Judgment of Line Orientation Test were applied to 16 chronic schizophrenic patients at baseline and after 9 months of treatment with clozapine. Using BPRS we assessed psychopathology before initiation of clozapine and at 9 months. Clozapine improved both positive and negative symptoms in chronic schizophrenic patients significantly. After nine months of clozapine treatment, significant improvements occurred in attention, short-term memory and visual perception ability. And interestingly we noted the trend of improvement in executive functions even though they were not statistical significant. Any significant correlations between the clinical improvement and change in congnitive functions were not observed. Long-term treatment with clozapine improved parts of cognitive functions of chronic schizophrenics. The results of the study suggest that deficits in simple cognitive functions as well as psychotic symptoms are improved after 3 month period of short-term treatment, but executive functions requiring more sophisticated processing of information could be improved after more than 9 months of long-term treatment.

In this paper, the designed fish robots DOMI ver1.0 is researched and development for aquarium underwater robot. The presented fish robot consists of the head, 1'st stage body, 2nd stage body and tail, which is connected two point driving joints. The model of the robot fish is analysis to maximize the momentum of the robot fish and the body of the robot is designed through the analysis of the biological fish swimming. Also, Lighthill was applied to the kinematics analysis of robot fish swimming algorithms, we are applied to the approximate method of the streamer model that utilizes techniques mimic the biological fish. The swimming robot has two operating mode such as manual and autonomous operation modes. In manual mode the fish robot is operated to using the RF transceiver, and in autonomous mode the robot is controlled by microprocessor board that is consist PSD sensor for the object recognition and avoidance. In order to the submerged and emerged, the robot has the bladder device in a head portion. The robot gravity center weight is transferred to a one-axis sliding and it is possible to the submerged and emerged of DOMI robot by the breath unit. It was verified by the performance test of this design robot DOMI ver1.0. It was confirmed that excellent performance, such as driving force, durability and water resistance through the underwater field test.
For the elucidation of some information on processing properties of tomato, physicochemical characteristics of fruits were analysed for two group of cultivation pattern, non-proped cultivation (5 varieties) and groped cultivation (4 varieties). Weight, length, width, thickness and specific gravity were greater in the groped cultivation group than in the non-groped. Among the groped varieties, Master 2 showed the greatest values and 76Mo11-3-1-2-2 the smallest. Among the non-groped, weight, length, width and specific gravity were greatest in Jinhong and thickness was greatest in Good Hope and smallest in $79078{\times}ARC$. Hardness showed significant difference only among the non-groped resulting in the lowest value in $79078{\times}ARC$. Fruit sphericity was greater in the non-groped among which Good Hope was the greatest. In fruit color the non-groped showed greater trend in dominant wavelength, especially in Good Hope. No significant difference between group was found in lightness and % chroma. Sugar content showed higher trend in the non-groped and highest in Master 2. Acidity was significantly higher in the non-groped and highest in Good Hope. There was no difference in pH. Vitamin C was difference between group but higher trend in $79078{\times}ARC$. Viscosity was no difference between group but higher trend in $79078{\times}CL1561F6$ of the non-groped and 76Mo11-3-1-2-2-of the groped.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to test stage model in Traumatic Brain Injury(TBI) patients. According to the stage model, attention deficits which is basic stage in information processing lead to memory disturbance and subsequently affect higher-order cognitive function such as memory, decision-making, abstract thinking, and judgement related to executive function. Therefore, it was hypothesized that attention affect recall(retrieval efficacy) related to executive function mostly relative to other cognitive function, in TBI patients with low executive function. Methods : Participants were referred to a TBI clinic and then was rated on K-WAIS and Executive Intelligence Test(EXIT). Participants were divided into two groups according to Executive IQ(EIQ) score, which of high function group(N=67) was more than 80(above low average) and of low function group(N=52) was under 80 (under borderline). To test the stage model, using hierarchical regression analysis, recall(retrieval efficacy) was regressed on 3 subscales(attention, verbal, visuospatial scale) after controlling for IQ according to each group. Furthermore, the mediation effect of attention between retrieval efficacy and verbal, visuospatial score was analyzed. Results : In the low function group, only attention area predicted significantly recall(retrieval efficacy), indicating that lower attention were related to lower EIQ after controlling for IQ. In the high function group, no area predicted significantly retrieval efficacy. In the low function group, verbal and visuospatial scale did not predicted significantly retrieval efficacy, indicating that there was no evidences supporting the mediation model. Conclusion : Only attention affect retrieval efficacy in TBI patients with low executive function. But, the mediation effect of attention between retrieval efficacy and verbal and visuospatial scale was not tested in the low function group. These results implied that stage model was tested partially. In treating cognitive deficit in TBI patients, it is necessary to develop cognitive rehabilitation program based on stage model. Furthermore, it is necessary to necessary to test mediation model in the future study.
Protein-protein interaction data obtained from high-throughput experiments includes high false positives. In this paper, we introduce a new protein-protein interaction reliability verification system. The proposed system integrates various biological features related with protein-protein interactions, and then selects the most relevant and informative features among them using a feature selection method. To assess the reliability of each protein-protein interaction data, the system construct a classifier that can distinguish true interacting protein pairs from noisy protein-protein interaction data based on the selected biological evidences using a classification technique. Since the performance of feature selection methods and classification techniques depends heavily upon characteristics of data, we performed rigorous comparative analysis of various feature selection methods and classification techniques to obtain optimal performance of our system. Experimental results show that the combination of feature selection method and classification algorithms provide very powerful tools in distinguishing true interacting protein pairs from noisy protein-protein interaction dataset. Also, we investigated the effects on performances of feature selection methods and classification techniques in the proposed protein interaction verification system.
Recently the tagSNP selection problem has been researched for reducing the cost of association studies between human's diversities and SNPs. General approach for this problem is that all of SNPs are separated into appropriate blocks and then tagSNPs are chosen in each block. Marsel in this paper is the system that involved the concept of linkage disequilibrium for overcoming the problem that the existing block partitioning approaches have short of biological meanings. In most approaches, the contiguous regions, which recombinations have LD coefficient |D'| and then tagSNP selection step is performed. And MarSel guarantees the minimum tagSNP selection using entropy-based optimal selection algorithm when tagSNPs are chosen in each block, and enables chromosome-level association studies using efficient memory management technique when input is very large-scale dataset that is impossible to be processed in the existing systems.
This paper presents a method that registers a lymphoscintigraphy to the real image captured by a CMOS camera, which helps surgeons to easily and precisely detect sentinel lymph nodes for sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast cancer patients. The proposed method consists of two steps: pre-matching and image registration. In the first step, we localize fiducial markers in a lymphoscintigraphy and a real image of a four quadrant bar phantom by using image processing techniques, and then determines perspective transformation parameters by matching with the corresponding marker points. In the second step, we register a lymphoscintigraphy to a real images of patients by using the perspective transformation of pre-matching. To examine the accuracy of the proposed method, we conducted an experiment with a chest mock-up with radioactive markers. As a result, the euclidean distance between corresponding markers was less than 3mm. In conclusion, the present method can be used to accurately align lymphoscintigraphy and real images of patients without attached markers to patients, and then provide useful anatomical information on sentinel lymph node biopsy.
