  • Motivated mainly by certain interesting recent extensions of the generalized hypergeometric function [Integral Transforms Spec. Funct. 23 (2012), 659-683] and the second Appell function [Appl. Math. Comput. 219 (2013), 8332-8337] by means of the incomplete Pochhammer symbols $({\lambda};{\kappa})_{\nu}$ and $[{\lambda};{\kappa}]_{\nu}$, we introduce here the family of the incomplete generalized ${\tau}$-hypergeometric functions $2{\gamma}_1^{\tau}(z)$ and $2{\Gamma}_1^{\tau}(z)$. The main object of this paper is to study these extensions and investigate their several properties including, for example, their integral representations, derivative formulas, Euler-Beta transform and associated with certain fractional calculus operators. Further, we introduce and investigate the family of incomplete second ${\tau}$-Appell hypergeometric functions ${\Gamma}_2^{{\tau}_1,{\tau}_2}$ and ${\gamma}_2^{{\tau}_1,{\tau}_2}$ of two variables. Relevant connections of certain special cases of the main results presented here with some known identities are also pointed out.

  • Fox [2] presented an interesting identity for $_pF_q$ which is expressed in terms of a finite summation of $_pF_q$'s whose involved numerator and denominator parameters are different from those in the starting one. Moreover Fox [2] found a very interesting and general summation formula for $_3F_2(1/2)$ as a special case of his above-mentioned general identity with the help of Kummer's second summation theorem for $_2F_1(1/2)$. Here, in this paper, we show how two general summation formulas for $$_3F_2\[\array{\hspace{110}{\alpha},{\beta},{\gamma};\\{\alpha}-m,\;\frac{1}{2}({\beta}+{\gamma}+i+1);}\;{\frac{1}{2}}\]$$, m being a nonnegative integer and i any integer, can be easily established by suitably specializing the above-mentioned Fox's general identity with, here, the aid of generalizations of Kummer's second summation theorem for $_2F_1(1/2)$ obtained recently by Rakha and Rathie [7]. Several known results are also seen to be certain special cases of our main identities.

  • A fire fighting characteristic by a single evaporating droplet in the case of a fire of military enclosure space was studied experimentally. Transient cooling of solid surface by water droplet evaporation has been investigated through controlled experiments using a heated brass cylinder. Quantitative predictions of droplet evaporation time and in-depth transient temperature distribution in solid have been made. The particular interest was in the removal of thermal energy from the heated cylinder by evaporative cooling. A $10{\mu}1$ single droplet is deposited on a horizontal brass surface with initial temperatures in the range of $90^{\circ}C{\sim}130^{\circ}C.$ The results can be summarized as follows; Evaporating droplet was divided into three different configuration. Evaporation time was predicted as a function of initial surface temperature ($t_c=492.62-6.89T_{s0}+0.0248T_{s0}^2).$ The contact temperature was predicted as a function of initial surface temperature( $T_{i}$=0.94 $T_{s0}$+1.4), The parameter ${\beta}_o$ was predicted as a function of initial surface temperature( ${\beta}_0$ : 0.O0312 $T_{s0}+0.932$)>)>)

  • Background: Estrogen signaling pathways are modulated by exogenous factors. Panax ginseng exerts multiple activities in biological systems and is classified as an adaptogen. Zearalenol is a potent mycoestrogen that may be present in herbs and crops arising from contamination or endophytic association. The goal of this study was to investigate the impact of P. ginseng, zearalenol and estradiol in tests on spermatozoal function. Methods: The affinity of these compounds for estrogen receptor (ER)-alpha and beta ($ER{\alpha}$ and $ER{\beta}$)-was assessed in receptor binding assays. Functional tests on boar spermatozoa motility, movement and kinematic parameters were conducted using a computer-assisted sperm analyzer. Tests for capacitation, acrosome reaction (AR), and chromatin decondensation in spermatozoa were performed using microscopic analysis. Results: Zearalenol-but not estradiol ($E_2$)- or ginseng-treated spermatozoa-decreased the percentage of overall, progressive, and rapid motile cells. Zearalenol also decreased spontaneous AR and increased chromatin decondensation. Ginseng decreased chromatin decondensation in response to calcium ionophore and decreased AR in response to progesterone ($P_4$) and ionophore. Conclusion: Zearalenol has adverse effects on sperm motility and function by targeting multiple signaling cascades, including $P_4$, $E_2$, and calcium pathways. Ginseng protects against chromatin damage and thus may be beneficial to reproductive fitness.

  • Based on the typhoon paths landed on the southern coast of Korea, the distribution of typhoon moving directions follow the Beta probability density function and that of pressure drops in typhoon eyes follow the Rayleigh probability density function. Consequently, the extreme typhoon simulation scenarios for six landing positions are determined as most probable one in moving direction and extreme one of Typhoon Maemi level in pressure drop. The variation of storm surges in Masan bay associated with simulated typhoon landing position is analyzed through the numerical experiments in the next paper as the second part.

  • This paper compares the performance of several tracking filters, namely, alpha-beta filter, Kalman filter and TBM tracking filter for ballistic target tracking problem using multi-function radar. Every of three tracking filters suggested was tested on simulator developed in accordance with TBM trajectory and MFR RSP measurement. The result shows the method using TBM tracking filter gives 75.3 % decreased velocity RMS error than alpha-beta filter. After initialization, the RMS error of range and velocity of the proposed filter is also smaller than the Kalman filter. Finally the proposed filter is suitable for high-speed TBM tracking due to the stable angle tracking accuracy.

  • We obtain the conditions on ${\beta}$ so that $1+{\beta}zp^{\prime}(z){\prec}1+4z/3+2z^2/3$ implies p(z) ${\prec}$ (2+z)/(2-z), $1+(1-{\alpha})z$, $(1+(1-2{\alpha})z)/(1-z)$, ($0{\leq}{\alpha}$<1), exp(z) or ${\sqrt{1+z}}$. Similar results are obtained by considering the expressions $1+{\beta}zp^{\prime}(z)/p(z)$, $1+{\beta}zp^{\prime}(z)/p^2(z)$ and $p(z)+{\beta}zp^{\prime}(z)/p(z)$. These results are applied to obtain sufficient conditions for normalized analytic function f to belong to various subclasses of starlike functions, or to satisfy the condition ${\mid}log(zf^{\prime}(z)/f(z)){\mid}$ < 1 or ${\mid}(zf^{\prime}(z)/f(z))^2-1{\mid}$ < 1 or zf'(z)/f(z) lying in the region bounded by the cardioid $(9x^2+9y^2-18x+5)^2-16(9x^2+9y^2-6x+1)=0$.

  • The electrical resistivity and mechanical properties of the hot-pressed and annealed ${\beta}$-SiC+39vol.%$ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as a function of the liquid forming additives of $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$(6:4wt%). In this microstructures. no reactions were observed between $\beta$-SiC and $ZrB_2$, and the relative density is over 97.6% of the theoretical density. Phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed mostly of a $\alpha$-SiC(6H, 4H), $ZrB_2$ and weakly $\beta$-SiC(15R) phase. The fracture toughness decreased with increased $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ contents and showed the highest for composite added with 4wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ additives. The electrical resistivity increased with increased $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ contents because of the increasing tendency of pore formation according to amount of liquid forming additives $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$. The electrical resistivity of composites is all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) against temperature up to $700^{\circ}C$.

  • An airborne alpha beta detection system using passivated implanted planar silicon (PIPS) detector was modeled with the MCNP6 code and its resolution and detection efficiency were analyzed. Simulation of the resolution performed using the Gaussian energy broadening (GEB) function showed that the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 35.214 keV for alpha particles was within 34-38 KeV, which is the FWHM range of the actual detector, and the FWHM of 15.1 keV for beta particles was constructed with a similar model to 17 keV, which is the FWHM range of an actual detector. In addition, the detection efficiency and the resolution were simulated according to the distance between the detector and the air filter. When the distance was decreased to 0.2 cm from 0.8 cm, the efficiency of the alpha and beta particles detection decreased from 5.33% to 4.89% and from 5.64% to 4.27%, respectively, and the FWHM of the alpha and beta particles improved from 40.9 KeV to 29.84 keV and 25.76 keV-13.27 keV, respectively.

  • Amyloid ${\beta}$-peptide ($A{\beta}$-peptide)-induced oxidative stress is thought to be a critical component of the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD). New chalcone derivatives, the Chana series, were recently synthesized from the retrochalcones of licorice. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of the Chana series against neurodegenerative changes in vitro and in vivo. Among the Chana series, Chana 30 showed the highest free radical scavenging activity (90.7%) in the 1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl assay. Chana 30 also protected against $A{\beta}$-induced neural cell injury in vitro. Furthermore, Chana 30 reduced the learning and memory deficits of $A{\beta}_{1-42}$-peptide injected mice. Taken together, these results suggest that Chana 30 may be a promising candidate as a potent therapeutic agent against neurodegenerative diseases.
