In this paper, we study Finsler metrics of constant S-curvature. First we produce infinitely many Randers metrics with non-zero (constant) S-curvature which have vanishing H-curvature. They are counterexamples to Theorem 1.2 in [20]. Then we show that the existence of (${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$)-metrics with arbitrary constant S-curvature in each dimension which is not Randers type by extending Li-Shen' construction.
We consider a MAR model with ARCH type conditional heteroscedasticity. MAR-ARCH model can be derived as a smoothed version of the double threshold AR-ARCH model by adding a random error to the threshold parameters. Easy to check sufficient conditions for strict stationarity, ${\beta}-mixing$ property and existence of moments of the model are given via Markovian representation technique.
In this paper we investigate a generalization of the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability for a functional equation of the form $f(\varphi(X))\;=\;\phi(X)f(X)$, where X lie in n-variables. As a consequence, we obtain a stability result in the sense of Hyers, Ulam, Rassias, and Gavruta for many other equations such as the gamma, beta, Schroder, iterative, and G-function type's equations.

Glutathione S-transferase genotypes GSTT1, GSTM1 and GSTP1 were characterized in 104 healthy male and female subjects and compared with parameters of oxidative stress at the level of DNA and lipids, with antioxidant enzymes, and with plasma antioxidants in smokers and non.smokers. Of the 104 subjects studied, 57.4% were GSTT1 present and 47.6% were GSTM1 present. The GSTP1 polymorphisms a and b were represented as follows: a/a, 75.5%; a/b, 21.6%; b/b type, 2.9%. The GSTT1 null genotype was associated with decreased glutathione in erythrocytes and elevated lymphocytes DNA damage. GST-Px was higher in GSTT1 null compared with GSTT1 present type. The homozygous GSTP1 genotype was not associated with any antioxidant status or DNA damage. The difference in plasma ${\alpha}$-carotene and erythrocytes GSH-Px and GST activities between smokers and non-smokers was detected in the GSTT1 null genotype. Plasma ${\gamma}$-tocopherol and ${\beta}$-carotene decreased significantly in smokers having GSTM1 null genotype. When GSTT1 and GSTM1 were combined, plasma lycopene and erythrocyte GST were reduced in smokers in both null types of these genes. As for GSTP1 genotype, plasma ${\alpha}$-carotene and erythrocytes GSH-Px decreased significantly in smokers with GSTP1 b/b, while erythrocytes GSH-Px activities decreased in smokers with GSTP1 a/b. The different ${\beta}$-carotene level between smokers and non-smokers was seen with both GSTP1 a/a and a/b genotype. It seems that polymorphisms in the phase II metabolizing enzyme glutathione S-transferase may be important determinants of commonly measured biomarkers.

Conformational change during chain propagation of alanine oligomer was investigated by quantum chemical calculation(QCC) using 2~5mers(${\times}=2{\sim}5$) models. For estimation of the end group effects, two types of end group. "amide type" ($CH_3CONH-and-CONHCH_3$) and "methyl type" ($CH_3CONH-and-CONHCH_3$), were prepared as both ends(N-and-C). Conformers optimized for 5-mer converged to three types of ${\Phi}/{\Psi}$ : ${\alpha}$-helix(g+/g+, or g-/g-), PPII-like(extended helix-like, g+/g-, or g-/g+), and ${\beta}$-extended (t+/t-, or t-/t+), in the order of lower energy, and the energies of left- and right- handed conformers were the same (5-mer. amide type ${\Delta}E=-1.05$, right type ${\Delta}E=-1.62$). Energies of the monomer unit(${\Delta}E$) of ${\alpha}$-helix decreased with increases of monomer.

${\beta}$-(1,3)-D-Glucans have been known to exhibit antitumor and antimicrobial activities. The presence of dectin-1,${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$-glucan receptor of dendritic cell, on macrophage has been controvertial. RT-PCR analysis led to the detection of dectin-1${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ in murine macrophage Raw264.7 cell line. Among the various organs of mouse, dectin-1${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ were detected in the thymus, lung, spleen, stomach and intestine. To analyze gene expression modulated by ${\beta}$-glucan treated murine Raw264.7 macrophage, total mRNA was applied to cDNA microarray to interrogate the expression of 7,000 known genes. cDNA chip analysis showed that ${\beta}$-glucan of P. osteatus increased gene expressions of immunomodulating genes, membrane antigenic proteins, chemokine ligands, complements, cytokines, various kinases, lectin associated genes and oncogenes in Raw 264.7 cell line. When treated with ${\beta}$-glucan of P. osteatus and LPS, induction of gene expression of TNF-${\alpha}$ and IFN-R1 was confirmed by RT-PCR analysis. Induction of TNF-R type II expression was confirmed by FACS analysis. IL-6 expression was abolished by EDTA in ${\beta}$-glucan and LPS treated Raw264.7 cell line, indicating that ${\beta}$-glucan binds to dectin-l in a Ca$\^$++/ -dependent manner. To increase antitumor efficacy of ${\beta}$-glucan, ginsenoside Rh2 (GRh2) was co-treated with ${\beta}$-glucan in vivo and in vitro tests. IC$\sub$50/ values of GRh2 were 20 and 25 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ in SNU-1 and B16 melanoma F10 cell line, respectively. Co-treatment with ${\beta}$-glucan and GRh2 showed synergistic antitumor activity with cisplatin and mitomycin C both in vitro and in vivo. Single or co-treatment with ${\beta}$-glucan and GRh2 increased tumor bearing mouse life span. Co-treatment with ${\beta}$-glucan and GRh2 showed more increased life span with mitomycin C than that with cisplatin. Antitumor activities were 67% and 72 % by co-injection with ${\beta}$-glucan and GRh2 in the absence or presence of mitomycin C, respectively.

In this study, we evaluated the anti-cancer activity and potential molecular mechanism of 70% ethanol extracts of branches from Taxillus yadoriki parasitic to Neolitsea sericea (TN-NS-B) against human lung cancer cells, A549. TY-NS-B dose-dependently suppressed the growth of A549 cells. TY-NS-B decreased ${\beta}$-catenin protein level, but not mRNA level in A549 cells. The downregulation of ${\beta}$-catenin protein level by TY-NS-B was attenuated in the presence of MG132. Although TY-NS-B phosphorylated ${\beta}$-catenin protein, the inhibition of $GSK3{\beta}$ by LiCl did not blocked the reduction of ${\beta}$-catenin by TY-NS-B. In addition, TY-NS-B decreased ${\beta}$-catenin protein in A549 cells transfected with Flag-tagged wild type ${\beta}$-catenin or Flag-tagged S33/S37/T41 mutant ${\beta}$-catenin construct. Our results suggested that TN-NS-B may downregulate ${\beta}$-catenin protein level independent on $GSK3{\beta}$-induced ${\beta}$-catenin phosphorylation. Based on these findings, TY-NS-B may be a potential candidate for the development of chemopreventive or therapeutic agents for human lung cancer.
The purpose of this study is to examine the healthy degree of the rural families and the variables that affect it, as well as the differences between husband and wife perceptions on the healthiness of rural families. One hundred and ninety six couples (three hundred and ninety two individuals) were surveyed for this study The following findings were obtained from the analysis of the data. First, the degree of the healthiness of rural families was quantified as about 71 points out of 100 possible maximum points. Second, family type ($\beta$=.17), the wife's self-esteem ($\beta$ =.22), the husband's self-esteem ($\beta$ =.17), wife's marital satisfaction ($\beta$ =.32), and husband's marital satisfaction ($\beta$=.15) were the only variables that significantly affected the healthiness of rural families. Third, social-psychological variables (for example, self-esteem and marital satisfaction of the couple) had more explanatory power than material and farming-related variables. From the results of this study, it is suggested that in order to enhance the healthiness of rural families, systematic educational programs that can improve social-psychological interactions among family members should be developed.
By a sequential action of ${\beta}$-ketothiolase and acetoacetyl-CoA reductase, two molecules of acetyl-CoA re converted into D-3-hydroxybutyryl-CoA, a substrate for PHB synthase to form poly-3-hydroxybutyryl-CoA, a substrate for PHB synthase to form poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) of rhodobacter sphaeroides. The ${\beta}$-ketothiolase gene, phbA, and acetoacetyl-CoA reductase gene, phbB, were cloned and analyzed for their expression. Enzyme activities of ${\beta}$-ketothiolase and acetoacetyl-CoA reductase showed constitutive levels during aerobic and photoheterotrophic growth of R. sphaeroides. In addition, no difference of each enzyme activity was observed between cells grown aerobically and photoheterotrophically. The constitutive level of the enzyme activities are regulated according to the growth phases along with growth conditions. Thus, phbAB expression is not determinative in regulating the PB content. On the other hand, phbA-deleted cell AZI accumulated only $10\%$ PHB of the wild-type, and an elevated dosage of phbAB in trans in R. sphaeroides resulted in a higher content of PHB, indicating that phbAB codes for the enzymes responsible for providing the main supply of subsyrate for PHB synthase. PHB formation by an alternative pathway that does not does not depend on the phbA-and phbB-coding enzymes is also proposed.
Of 143 clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae collected from Korean non-tertiary hospitals, 24 (16.8%) showed an extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase-positive phenotype. PCR and sequence analysis revealed the presence of TEM-116 (n=13), CTX-M-3 (n=5), CTX-M-14 (n=2), CTX-M-15 (n=3), and SHV-12 (n=16). Each of the 24 isolates encoded more than one ${\beta}$-lactamase, and seven isolates (29%) harbored two different SHV-type ${\beta}$-lactamase genes ($bla_{SHV-11}$ and $bla_{SHV-12}$) bounded by insertion sequence IS26 in a single transferable plasmid.
