This paper presents the hydrodynamic effect by the journal speed, eccentricity and source positions in order to overcome the defects of air bearing such as low stiffness and damping coefficient. Choosing the two row source position of air bearing is different from existing investigations in the side of pressure distribution of air film because of the high speed of journal and the wedge effects by the eccentricity. These optimal choices of the two row source positions enable us to improve the performance of the film reaction force and loading force as making the high-speed spindle. In this paper, The pressure behavior in theory of air film in high speed region of journal according to the eccentricity of journal and the source positions analyzed. The theoretical analysis has been identified by experiments. The results of investigated characteristics may be applied to precision devices like ultra-precision grinding machine and ultra high-speed milling.
This paper is concerned with the natural periods of ambient vibration and eigenvalue analysis. Ambient vibration tests were conducted to four bearing-wall reinforced concrete buildings ranging from twelve to nineteen stories. The performance of modeling in eigenvalue analysis was investigated using consideration of rigidity out of the plane in the slab and the non-structural bearing wall. Measured natural period was also compared with the value by the KBC2005. Natural period of the short direction in eigenvalue analysis is well fitted with the measured one. In the other hand, Natural period of the long direction in eigenvalue analysis is slightly more overestimated than the measured one. Natural period of the long direction in eigenvalue analysis was found to be enhanced by considering the effect of the stiffness out of the plane of the slab and non-structural wall in the structural modeling.
Air dynamic bearings are inherently unstable in dynamic behavior due to the varying angle of a force produced and the nonlinear characteristics of stiffness. In this study, such dynamic behavior is obtained and compared with experimental results. A body axis coordinate system is employed to avoid the change of a moment of inertia. FDM is used to calculate the pressure distribution on the bearing surface and then the force acting on the rotor was calculated by integrating the pressure distribution. By integrating accelerations which are calculated from the equations of motion using the 4th order Runge-Kutta method, the pose of the bearing at each time step is obtained.
This paper presents the identification of rotor dynamic parameters. The solution of the system equation can be obtained using least square method. The sensitivity analysis is performed to extract optimized solution, which is considered to be insensitive to inherent measurement errors. The cosine and sine term of orbit shapes can be obtained by experiment the orbit analysis at a different speed after doing orbit analysis at an arbitrary selected speed. This values measured time domain used to search the stiffness and damping coefficients of rotor bearing.
Hydrostatic Bearings have been applied to ultra high precision machine tools and precision instruments, because of their low friction characteristic, high load carrying capacity and high moving accuracy at all range of speed. In regard to realizing the Hydrostatic Bearing, various restrictors such as capillary, orifice, diaphram valve, spool valve, and etc can be used. However, their stiffness and flexibility are not sufficient in practical use for ultra precision machine tool elements. In this study dynamic equations were derived and the dynamic characteristics were simulated for both orifice and flow control servo valve. Simulation was carried out on the condition that static and sinusoidal dynamic loads were applied to the table of CNC jig Boring machine. The simulation results indicate the improvement of the performance of the Bearing system when flow control servo valve has been used as restrictor of Hydrostatic Bearing.

We propose a new miniature air-bearing stage with a moving-magnet slotless linear motor. This stage was developed to achieve the precise positioning required for submicron-level machining and miniaturization by introducing air bearings and a linear motor sufficient for mesoscale precision machine tools. The linear motor contained two permanent magnets and was designed to generate a preload force for the vertical air bearings and a thrust force for the stage movement. The characteristics of the air bearings, which used porous pads, were analyzed with numerical methods, and a magnetic circuit model was derived for the linear motor to calculate the required preload and thrust forces. A prototype of a single-axis miniature stage with dimensions of $120\;(W)\;{\times}\;120\;(L)\;{\times}\;50\;(H)\;mm$ was designed and fabricated, and its performance was examined, including its vertical stiffness, load capacity, thrust force, and positioning resolution.
This paper proposes a method to calculate the stiffness and the damping coefficients of the coupled journal and thrust bearings. The Reynolds equations and their perturbation equations are transformed to the finite element equations by considering the continuity of pressure and flow at the interface between bearings. The Reynolds boundary condition is used in the numerical analysis to simulate the cavitation phenomena. The dynamic coefficients of the proposed method are compared with those of the numerical differentiation of the loads with respect to finite displacements and velocities of bearing center. It shows that the proposed method is more accurate and efficient than the differentiation method.
A procedure to analyse the space frame structure fixed at base as well as resting on sliding bearing using total or absolute displacement in dynamic equation is developed. In the present method, the effect of ground acceleration is not considered as equivalent force. Instead, the ground acceleration is considered as a known value in the acceleration vector at degree of freedom corresponding to base of the structure when the structure is in non-sliding phase. When the structure is in sliding phase, only a force equal to the maximum frictional resistance is applied at base. Also, in this method, the stiffness matrix, mass matrix and the damping matrix will not change when the structure enters from one phase to another. The results obtained from the present method using absolute displacement approach are compared with the results obtained from the analysis of structure using relative displacement approach. The applicability of the analysis is also demonstrated to obtain the response of the structure resting on sliding bearing with restoring force device.
Form the application of long rail system the non-ballast steel plate bridges, fatigue strength increase and rail noise reduction can be expected. This is mainly form the reduction of the rail impact at the rail joint locations which already made to behave together from welds. In the high speed rail, application of long rail system is essential because without long rail system, the required serviceability level can not be achieved. But even with this long rail systems, the thermal expansion from the girder can not be absorbed in the normal bearing systems, and these expansion cause between girder and rail. Also unexpected rail buckling and fracture through rail thermal tension may happen. It was found through numerical analysis and field measurement that these problems can be avoided by semi-fixed bearing system. In this study, the benefits of non-ballast plate bridge through long rail system, especially at the point of girder stability, girder stiffness increase and bearing maintenance will be reviewed.
Air-Lubricated tilting pad journal bearing that has high stability is analyzed by using the direct method, and this bearing is usually used to need high precision. The pressure that supports the shaft is occured by the differences between the shaft and pads radii of curvatures. So the characteristics of load capacity for their variable values is important. In this paper the load capacity is compared with some of the eccentricity ratio values. The large load oapacity comes form large eccentricity ratio, high bearing number and high preload. But if the preload becomes too high, the shaft comes into contact with the pads. Stiffness and damping coefficients are compared with some of the preload, too. The coefficients decreased along compressibility number with constant load.
