In the northwest Okcheon metamorphic belt, the metaigneous rocks in the Gyemyeongsan Formation have wider chemical ranges for major, trace and REE elements compared with metaigneous rocks in the Munjuri Formation and do not represent bimodal igneous activity which is characteristic for a continental rifting. The metaigneous rocks in the Munjuri Formation are regarded as products of single magmatic evolution, whereas those in the Gyemyeongsan Formation may be formed through multiple magmatic episodes. The felsic metavolcanic rocks in the Gyemyeongsan Formation show weaker Eu negative anomalies compared with those in the Munjuri Formation but those in both formations show similar degrees of enrichment from LREE to HREE. The metabasites in the Munjuri Formation do not show Eu anomalies but those in the Gyemyeongsan Formation show both positive and negative Eu anomalies(0.59
We conducted a fundamental study on geological and rock detection via drone-based hyperspectral imaging on various types of small rock samples and interpreted the obtained information to compare and classify rocks. Further, we performed hyperspectral imaging on ten rocks, and compared the peak data value and reflectance of rocks. Results showed a difference in the reflectance and data value of the rocks, indicating that the rock colors and minerals vary or the reflectance is different owing to the luster of the surface. Among the rocks, limestone used for hyperspectral imaging is grayish white, inverted rock contains various sizes and colors in the dark red matrix, and granite comprises colorless minerals, such as white, black, gray, and colored minerals, resulting in a difference in reflectance. The reflectance of the visible ray range in ten rocks was 16.00~85.78%, in the near infrared ray range, the average reflectance was 23.94~86.43%, the lowest in basalt and highest in marble in both cases. This is because of the pores in basalt, which caused the difference in reflectance.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the classifying ability of the igneous rocks with the naked eye for 36 preservice science teachers. For this, we selected six specimens of igneous rocks that consisted of rhyolite, andesite, basalt, granite, diorite, and gabbro, and performed the questionnaire with them. Preservice science teachers needed the average of 3 tools to classify the rocks. Most of the selected tools were loupe, streak plate, hammer and Mohs’ hardness scale. Many preservice science teachers selected basalt and granite samples to classify igneous rocks among 6 kinds of the rocks which were exhibited. However, the results of the identification with the naked eye showed that the right answer rate was significantly different based on what rock sample had been selected. Nobody gave the right answer among 10 students who chose the rhyolite sample, but all of 36 students who picked the basalt sample answered correctly. And $62\%$ of 8 students who chose the andesite sample, 62% of 32 student choosing granite, $7\%$ of 13 students choosing diorite and $44\%$ of 9 students choosing gabbro were correctly answered. In identifying igneous rock samples with the naked eye, most subjects relied on vesicular texture to basalt, and they used textural, color and empirical characters to granite. But, some felt more or less difficulty to distinguish between intermediate and light colors and to recognize porphyry.

High performance functional fibers are demanded increasingly in the modern industries, while the inorganic fibers such as carbon fibers, glass fibers, and metal fibers are representative among them in that they have high strength, consistent properties in a broad temperature change, etc.. This paper reports on the experimental trial to apply the microwave furnace on melting the natural basalt rock that spreads overall on the global surface and is supposed to be used as the raw material for the inorganic high performance fiber. Results showed that the new method to use the microwave as the heating source to melt the basalt rock was feasible. The crucible spinning could effectively applied for producing the basalt fibers up to 10 micrometer diameter, when the crushed basalt rocks were used. For drawing the molten basalt the drawing roller surface feature was a very important factor.
Eoil basalt in the Eoil basin and Yeonil basalt and its related volcanic rocks in Guryongpo and Daebo area were researched and analyzed to purse the tectonic settings and magma characteristics of those Tertiary volcanic rocks in the south-east Korean peninsula. It is highly suggested that zoning, resorption and sieve texture in plagioclase and reaction rim in pyroxene indicate unstable tectonic environments and complex volcanism in the study area. Volcanic rocks from Janggi basin are identified as basalt and basaltic andesite in TAS diagram and sub-alkaline series in terms of magma differentiation. $Na_2O$ and $K_2O$ show positive trend however FeO, CaO, MgO and $P_2O_5$ indicate negative trend in Harker variation diagram with $SiO_2$. Basaltic rocks from Eoil area are identified as calc-alkaline series in AFM diagram and show medium K series calc-alkaline in $K_2O-SiO_2$ diagram. Compatible trace elements of Co, Ni, V, Zn, and Sc in Yeonil basalt show negative trend with crystallization but incompatible trace element of Ba, Rb show positive trend with $SiO_2$ 0.81~1.00 of $Eu/Eu^*$ value suggests minor effect of plagioclase fractionation in Yeonil basaltic rocks. Plagioclase composition of Eoil basalt ranges from $An_{63.46-98.38}\;Ab_{1.62-32.96}\;Or_{0-3.58}$ (anorthite-labradorite) in core to $An_{40.89-82.44}\;Ab_{17.10-46.43}\;Or_{0-12.68}$ (bytownite-labradorite) in rim. $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ and 143Nd;t44Nd ranges 0.704090~0.704717 and 0.512705~0.512822 respectively. Negative linear trends in 87Sr/86Sr and $^{143}Nd/^{144}Nd$ correlation diagram indicate that magma produced Yeonil basalt and basaltic andesite has been originated as partial melting product of mantle wedge by subducting Pacific plate affected by oceanic crust with less effect of continental crust indicating calc-alkaline magma characteristics.
The purpose of this study was to compare characteristics of students lived in volcanic region or not while observing the igneous rocks basalt and granite. For the study we recruited 68 fifth-grade students in Jeju Island, 29 fifthgrade students in Ulleung Island and 61 fifth-grade students in inland area area. This study was conducted as follows: After observing of granite and basalt, the students wrote observations. At the end of observation they also wrote all knowledges about granite and basalt except for the observations. The results are as follows: First, igneous rocks observations did not show a statistically significant difference between regional characteristics variables. Second, the amount of knowledge that students knew about granite and basalt except for the observation facts also did not show significant differences. Third, in the results of qualitative analysis for knowledges about granite and basalt except for the observation facts, many students knew about the igneous origin and about the substance but there were few statements that reflected the characteristics of the location. This results will provide a meaningful implication that the science class must consist of the use a various examples associated with a real-life.
Petrographical and petrochemical analyses for late Miocene basalts in Goseong-gun area. Gangwon province, were carried out to interpret the characteristics and the origin of magma. The basaltic rocks occurred as plug-dome in the summit of several small mountain and developed columnar jointing with pyroxene-megacryst bearing porphyritic texture. And the basalt contains xenoliths of biotite granite (basement rocks), gabbro (lower crustal origin) and Iherzolite(upper mantle origin). The basalts belong to the alkaline basalt field in TAS diagram and partly belong to picrobasalt and trachybasalt field. On the tectonomagmatic discrimination diagram f3r basalt in the Goseong-gun area. they fall into the fields for the within plate and oceanic island basalt. The characteristics of trace elements and REEs shows that primary magma for the basalt magma would have been derived from partial melting of garnet-peridotite mantle. This late Miocene basalt volcanism is related to the hot spot within the palte.

Inorganic basalt fiber (BF) is a novel sort of commercial concrete fiber which is made with basalt rocks. Previous studies have not sufficiently handled the behavior of self-compacted concrete, at elevated temperature, containing basalt fiber. Present endeavor covers experimental work to examine the characteristics of this material at high temperature considering different fiber content and applied temperature. Different tests were carried out to measure the mechanical properties such as compressive strength (fc), modulus of elasticity (E), Poisson's ratio, splitting tensile strength (fsplit), flexural strength (fflex), and slant shear strength (fslant) of HSC and hybrid concrete. Gene expression programming (GEP) was employed to propose new constitutive relationships depending on experimental data. It was noticed from the testing records that there is no remarkable effect of BF on the Poisson's ratio and modulus of elasticity of self-compacted concrete. The flexural strength of basalt fiber self-compacted concrete was not sensitive to temperature in comparison to other mechanical properties of concrete. Fiber volume fraction of 0.25% was found to be the optimum to some extend according to degradation of strength. The proposed GEP models were in good matching with the experimental results.

In this paper, an experimental program was undertaken to test the analysis on Component and mechanical characteristics for crushed stone of excavated Rocks from Sandstone, Shale, Mudstone, for use as a new source of aggregate. Physical and mechanical properties, required for aggregate materials, of major constituents of rock wastes including Sandstone, Shale, Mudstone, Felsite, Basalt, Marl were measured in the laboratory Test results showed that the Shale, Felsite, Basalt tested in this study might possibly be used for construction aggregates. In case of Sandstone and Mudstone, some physical properties such as rock strength were generally adoptable but the aggregate characteristics were lower than required.
There are three scoria cones and their eruptive materials in Sarabong-Byeoldobong-Hwabukbong area Cheju Island. And they made complicated volcanic stratigraphy. In Byeoldobong tuff, basalt and granite xenoliths are present. It is presumed that the granite is a kind of basement of Cheju island. And Biseokgeori hawaiite has many kaersutite phenocrysts. Therefore, this area is very important for the study about history of volcanic activity of Cheju island. The lowest beds are Shinheung basalt and Byeoldobong tuff. Byeoldobong tuff has xenoliths of granite and phenocrystalline basalt. After the formation of these rocks, the Hwabukbong volcanism commenced. First of all this volcanism formed Biseokgeori hawaiite that has lots of kaersutite, a member of amphibole group, characteristically. Over this rock, Hwabukbong scoria cone was formed. The next Sarabong volcanism effused Keonipdong hawaiite that has lots of plagioclase and olivine phenocrysts and then Sarabong scoria cone was made up. Basalt xenolith in Byeoldobong tuff is different from Shinheungri basalt with regard to petrography, therefore this offers suggestion about existence of another basalt between basement and Shinheungri basalt. Granite xenolith derived from the basement of this area has features of the Jurassic granite in the Korea Peninsula, for example a lot of myrmekitic texture, microcline, and absolute age (172.4 Ma) by K-Ar method.
