  • The NMR chemical shift arising from 4d electron angular momentum and 4d electron angular momentum and 4d electron spin dipolar-nuclear spin angular momentum interactions for a $4d^1$ system in a strong crystal field environment of trigonal symmetry, when the threefold axis is chosen to be the axis of quantization axis, has been examined. A general expression using the nonmultipole expansion method (exact method) is derived for the NMR chemical shift. From this expression all the multipolar terms are determined. We observe that along the (100), (010), (110), and (111) axes the NMR chemical shifts are positive while along the (001) axis, it is negative. We observe that the dipolar term (1/R3) is the dominant contribution to the NMR chemical shift except for along the (111) axis. A comparison of the multipolar terms with the exact values shows also that the multipolar results are exactly in agreement with the exact values around $R{\geqslant}0.2$ nm. The temperature dependence analysis on the NMR chemical shifts may imply that along the (111) axis the contribution to the NMR chemical shift is dominantly pseudo contact interaction. Separation of the contributions of the Fermi and the pseudo contact interactions would correctly imply that the dipolar interaction is the dominant contribution to the NMR chemical shifts along the (100), (010), (001), and (110) axes, but along the (111) axis the Fermi contact interaction is incorrectly the dominant contribution to the NMR chemical shift.

  • Recently, technologies to help the elderly or disabled people who have difficulty in walking are being developed. In order to develop these technologies, it is necessary to construct a system that gathers the gait data of people and analysis of these data is also important. In this research, we constructed the development of sensor system which consists of pressure sensor, three-axis accelerometer and two-axis gyro sensor. We used k-means clustering algorithm to classify the data for characterization, and then calculated the symmetry index with histogram which was produced from each cluster. We collected gait data from sensors attached on two subjects. The experiment was conducted for two kinds of gait status. One is walking with normal gait; the other is walking with abnormal gait (abnormal gait means that the subject walks by dragging the right leg intentionally). With the result from the analysis of acceleration component, we were able to confirm that the analysis technique of this data could be used to determine gait symmetry. In addition, by adding gyro components in the analysis, we could find that the symmetry index was appropriate to express symmetry better.

  • The NMR shift arising from the electron angular momentum and electron spin dipolar-nuclear spin angular momentum interactions has been investigated for a $4d^1$system in a strong crystal field environment of tetragonal symmetry. A general formula for NMR shift is used to compute the NMR shifts along the (100), (010), (001), (110) and (111) axes. We find that from the computed results, the NMR shift along the (100) and (010) axes is consistent with each other in a strong crystal field environment of tetragonal symmetry, but the NMR shift along the (001) axis is about triply greater in magnitude than those along the (100) and (010) axes and is opposite in sign to those along (100) and (010) axes. In this work, we express the expansion coefficients $a_1^{(i)}$ and $b_1^{(i)}$ of $A_i$ and $B_i$ in terms of $g_m^{(i)}$ and $h_m^{(i)}$ and two matrices $c_{lm}$ and $d_{lm}$ of radial dependence. The NMR shift is also separated into the contributions of multipolar terms. We find that $1/R^3$ term contributes dominantly to the NMR shift along the (100), (010), (001) and (110) axes while along the (111) axis $1/R^5$ term dominantly contributes. However, the contribtions of the other terms may not be negligible.

  • In this paper. we analyse and present electro-mechanical dynamic characteristics of a micro-machined vibrating silicon ring gyroscope which can measure angular velocities about three orthogonal axes. The ring gyroscope has a ring connected to the gyroscope main body by support-ligaments which are arranged with cyclic symmetry. The natural modes of its vibration can be distinguished into the in-plane motion and the out-of-plane motion which are coupled by the gyro-effect due to the rotation of the gyroscope main body. The motions of the ring are electro-statically derived. sensed and balanced by electrodes. The equations of motion are formulated. The measuring method of angular velocities by force-to-rebalance is presented. The dynamic characteristics of a ring gyroscope are calculated and compared.

  • A method to calculate the magnetic moments for $d^1$ and $d^2$ complexes in a strong crystal field of trigonal symmetry has been developed in this work choosing the trigonal axis (Ⅲ) as the quantization axis. The calculated magnetic moments using this method for $d^1$ and $d^2$ complexes in a strong trigonal ligand field fall in the range of the experimental values. The dipolar shifts for $d^1$ and $d^2$ complexes in a strong trigonal ligand field are also calculated using the calculated magnetic susceptibility components. The calculated values of the dipolar shifts also fall in the reasonable range.

  • The NMR chemical shift arising from 3d electron spin dipolar nuclear spin angular momentum interactions for a 3d$^2$ system in a strong crystal field environment of octahedral symmetry has been investigated when the fourfold axis is chosen to be our axis of quantization. The NMR shift is separated into the contribution of 1/R$^5$ and 1/R$^7$ terms. A comparision of the multipolar terms with nonmultipolar results shows that the 1/R$^5$ term contributes dominantly to the NMR shift and there is in good agreement between the exact solution and the multipolar results when R ${\ge}$ 0.25. A temperature dependence analysis may lead to the results that the 1/T$^2$ term has the dominant contribution to the NMR shift for a paramagnetic 3d$^2$ system but the contribution of the 1/T term may not be negligible.

  • In this study, ground reaction force(GRF), absolute symmetry index(ASI) and coefficient of variation(CV) of fixed, single-axis and multi-axis prosthetic ankle assemblies were investigated to show the biomechanical evaluation for above knee amputees. In the experiments, 37 normal male volunteers, two male and two female AK amputees were tested with fixed, single-axis and multi-axis prosthetic ankle assembly. A gait analysis was carried out to derive the ratio of GRF to weight as the percentage of total stance phase for ten points. The results showed that fixed-axis ankle was superior to the other two ankle assemblies for the characteristic of forwarding and breaking forces. Multi-axis ankle was relatively superior to the other two ankle assemblies for gait balancing and movement of the center for mass. single-axis ankle was relatively superior to the other two ankle assemblies for CV and ASI of GRF.
