  • Nerve growth factor (NGF) is a protein plays a major role in the development and maintenance of central and peripheral nervous system. Recent data suggest that reduced availability of NGF may play a significant role in the pathogenesis of diabetic $polyneuropathy.^{1)}$ In our previous study, steroidal saponin from Liriope platyphylla showed neurotrophic effect by stimulation of NGF synthesis and activation of tyrosine kinase $signaling.^{2)}$ In this study, we examined the neurotrophic effect of Liriope platyphylla (LP); which was from Mylyang(MYL) and Cheongyang(CHE), and Ophiopogon japonicus (CHI) on in vitro and in vivo model for the comparison of their NGF induction. We quantitatively analyzed spicatoside A in the LP and CHI by HPLC. And we investigated the correlation between the contents of spicatoside A and NGF induction efficacy on PC 12 cells and mouse serum. These results suggest that spicatoside A may enhance NGF induction in animal model.

  • The ionic conductivity in glassy systems were calculated as functions of temperature and ion concentration using Monte-Carol method considering interaction between neighbouring ion-site occupancies, {{{{ rho }}'s. Also the vacancy availability factor, V, the effective jump frequency factor, W, and the charge correlation factor, fc, have been investigated. The Arrhenius plot could be obtained from the ln {{{{ sigma }}T vs. 1/T* plots and was in exellent agreement with the experimental observations. The effects of the various types of potential well on the ionic conductivity have been considered. The activation energy Eg for ion motion in the glass was 1.3│ε│from the ln {{{{ sigma }}T vs. 1/T* plots.

  • This study shows the comparison between expected and actual capacity factors of a wind farm through wind resource analyzation. The expected capacity factor comes from an 'automatic weather system' run by the Korean national weather service and a 'meteorological mast' run by a project owner. Based on this comparison and analysis, the importance of meteorological mast micro-siting and selection of wind turbine class and type, will be studied along with presenting important implications for wind farm expansion and development.

  • This paper explores a rational investment decision model in sequential capital allocation process under capital rationing. A method is proposed for measuring the new investment decision factor which is the flexibility that describes the future availability of invested funds. This flexibility is important in sequential decision process. Also presented is a multiobjective (MO) decision model into which flexibility is incorporated with the profit and risk factors. The effectiveness of this criterion is compared with the expected present value and the mean-semivariance criteria through a simulation model.

  • A simple linear model to test the hypothesis based on one-on-one relationship has been used to find the causative factors of diseases. However, we now know that not just one, but many factors from different systems such as chemical exposure, genes, epigenetic changes, and proteins are involved in the pathogenesis of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. So, with availability of modern technologies to understand the intricate nature of relations among complex systems, we need to move forward to the future by taking complex systems model.

  • This research suggests a criterion, security quality, which is a unifying principle in computer network security that has the lack of a unifying principle. The security quality includes secrecy, integrity, recording, and availability among the factors that represent the security evaluation of the computer system. So, we defined the security quality, which is a basis for determining the security level, as the grand total of evaluation about each factor.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to provide data in order to develop effective family planning programs by analyzing the factors which affect contraceptive use among women in Ethiopia. Methods: The community health survey was conducted on women of childbearing age. The research model was developed based on Andersen's Model. A total of 320 respondents were analyzed through Chi-square analysis, t-tests and logistic regression analysis. Results: Contraceptive prevalence rate was 43.1% and most of them were using modern and short-term methods. Among three factor categories, the need factor(unwanted pregnancy experience) was revealed as the most important factor, following enabling factor which was knowing the FP services in health center. Conclusions: These results lead to several conclusions. First, the results imply that programs should focus on women who are in the over 30yr. as well as the poorer economic group and urban residents. Second, to improve the effectiveness of the program, it is important to help them to be motivated themselves and to promote knowledge on various methods. Third, in terms of service delivery, community health workers are expected to take a crucial role. To improve the availability of services, they should provide practical services as those in health center.

  • As port functions change to act as an economic catalyst and take on a central position in industries engaged in international trade, port hinterland has become a significant component in international shipping. The success of port hinterland as a strategic base of logistic activities critically depends on location selection factor for international distribution center that links elements of global supply chain management. By examining multi-measurement items empirically, this paper analyzed location selection factor for international logistics distribution center in port hinterland, and evaluated Busan new port hinterland from the user's perspective. Employing exploratory factor analysis, the results revealed that the model structured around five factors incorporating geo-location and accessibility, availability, political supports, cost factors, and quality of business environment is valid and reliable in the context of the location selection factors for logistics distribution center in the context of port hinterland operations. The evaluation of Busan new port hinterland provides useful insights for strategic improvement to accommodate the users' expectation. Further, the model offers both a descriptive and diagnostic strategic management tool for port hinterland development and operations, to guide future improvement.

  • For the PBL contract, it is necessary for the contracting parties to share information regarding the reasonable inventory-level and the cost of its repair parts for the estimated demand. There are various models which can be used for this purpose. Among them, V-METRIC model is considered to be the most efficient and is most frequently applied. However, this model is usually used for optimizing the inventory level of the repair parts of the system under operation. The model uses a time series forecast model to determine the demand rate, which is a mandatory input factor for the model, based on past field data. However, since the system at the deployment stage has no operational performance record, it is necessary to find another alternative to be used as the demand rate of the model application. This research applies the V-METRIC model to find the optimal inventory level and cost estimation for repairable items to meet the target operational availability, which is a key performance indicator, at the time of the PBL contract for the deployment system. This study uses the calculated value based on the allocated MTBF to the system as the demand rate, which is used as input data for the model. Also, we would like to examine changes in inventory level and cost according to the changes in target operational availability and MTBF allocation.
