This paper discusses a reference pattern creation for a speaker-independent Korean isolated word by using the clustering. Tn this paper we permitted to top 3 clusters and created reference pattern by Minimax Criterion. The features parameter used the LPC Coefficients and Autocorrelation and simple Itakura distance measure was used to measure similarity between patterns. With word reference patterns obtained as described above the recognition rate was within one choice only $55.9\%$, two choice only $76.9\%$, three choice only $89.5\%$.

This paper presents a speaker dependent isolated digit recognition algorithm using the Mellin transform. Since the Mellin transform converts a scale information into a phase information, attempts have been made to utilize this scale invariance property of the Mellin transform in order to alleviate a time-normalization procedure required for a speech recognition. It has been found that good results can be obtained by taking the Mellin transform to the features such as a ZCR, log energy, normalized autocorrelation coefficients, first predictor coefficient and normalized prediction error. We employed a difference function for evaluating a similarity between two patterns. When the proposed algorithm was tested on Korean digit words, a recognition rate of 83.3% was obtained. The recognition accuracy is not compatible with the other technique such as LPC distance however, it is believed that the Mellin transform can effectively perform the time-normalization processing for the speech recognition.

The main purpose of this study is to address flooding resilient land use management strategy based on the distributional characteristics of storm damage areas in Gyeonggi-do. The employed methods are 1) Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) to understand the spatial patterns of storm damage areas occurred from 2005 to 2009, 2) Local Indicator of Spatial Association (LISA) to examine spatial autocorrelation existed in storm damage areas for the year of 2009. The results show that 1) crop land damage is very sensitive to heavy precipitation, 2) damaged buildings are found in all over the Gyeonggi areas, but relatively more damages are in the regions closed to the City of Seoul, 3) damaged roads-bridges, streams, and reaches are found in mostly rural areas, 4) building and crop land damage occurs mostly in lowlands with different spatial patterns. These findings imply that 1) it will be useful to consider the average distances and slopes of damaged building and crop lands from streams for the decision making of land use management strategy, 2) further management efforts are required in the north, east, and south regions of Gyeonggi areas to prevent roads-bridge, stream, and reach damages, 3) the present land use pattern needs to be carefully investigated by considering the damage clustered areas for the year of 2009 based on watershed and municipality boundaries.
Berchemia racemosa var. magna is only found in Anmyeon Island of South Korea. Genetic diversity and the spatial genetic structure of B. racemosa var. magna in Anmyeon Island were studied by I-SSR marker system. Fifty I-SSR amplicons were produced from 8 selected primers. We used 13 polymorphic markers to analyze the genetic structure. Distribution of 39 individuals in the study plot($90m{\times}70m$) showed aggregate pattern (aggregation index = 0.706). Total 21 genets were observed from 39 individuals through I-SSR genotyping. Proportion of distinguishable genotype (G/N), genotype diversity (D) and genotype evenness (E) were 53.8%, 0.966 and 0.946, respectively. In spite of the small number and the narrow distribution, Shannon's diversity index (I = 0.598) was relatively high as compared with those of the other plant species. For ex situ genetic conservation of B. racemosa var. magna, the sampling strategy based on spatial autocorrelation using Tanimoto distance is efficient at choosing the conserved individuals with a 6 meter interval between individual trees.
We studied the influence certain environmental factors (proximity of roosting site, roads, and residential areas) have on the spatial distribution of cranes in the Cheorwon, Korea. Using a range finder and GPS, data were collected from January to February 2007 and were subsequently evaluated with ArcGIS. The size of the cranes' wintering habitat was estimated to be 7$76.9km^2$. Five hundred and fifty-five flocks of cranes were observed and detailed distributions were collected. Feeding distribution of the cranes showed clustered distribution, however, no tendencies of spatial autocorrelation were apparent. Adjacent regions with paved roads and residences showed lower densities than other areas. Distances at which paved roads and residential areas induced changes in feeding flock densities were 1500m and 1750m, respectively. Feeding flock density decreased with increased distance from roosting site. Feeding flock density of the two crane species did not increase as distance from roads increased, however, the density of individuals showed a significant increasing tendency with increased distance from roads. In both species, density of feeding flocks and individuals significantly increased with increasing distance from residential areas. In Red-crowned Cranes, the density of feeding flocks and individuals significantly decreased with increasing distance from roosting site, however, in the case of White-naped Cranes, there was an even distribution in density of feeding flocks and individuals.

This paper proposes a fault detection method for low-speed rolling element bearings of an induction motor using acoustic emission signals and histogram modeling. The proposed method performs envelop modeling of the histogram of normalized fault signals. It then extracts and selects significant features of each fault using partial autocorrelation coefficients and distance evaluation technique, respectively. Finally, using the extracted features as inputs, the support vector regression (SVR) classifies bearing's inner, outer, and roller faults. To obtain optimal classification performance, we evaluate the proposed method with varying an adjustable parameter of the Gaussian radial basis function of SVR from 0.01 to 1.0 and the number of features from 2 to 150. Experimental results show that the proposed fault identification method using 0.64-0.65 of the adjustable parameter and 75 features achieves 91% in classification performance and outperforms conventional fault diagnosis methods as well.
Genetic variation and structure of 9 subpopulations of Symplocarpus renifolius Schott ex Tzvelev on Mt. Cheonma, in Korea, were determined via starch-gel electrophoresis. The genetic diversity at 10 loci for 8 isozymes ($P_{99}=66%,\;A=2.26,\;H_o=0.212,\;H_e=0.230$) was found to be considerably higher than that seen in other long-lived perennial plants. On the whole, the genotype frequencies were in accordance with Hardy-Weinberg expectations. Approximately 5%($\theta=0.049$) of the total variability was among subpopulations. The high levels of observed genetic diversity in S. renifolius were attributed to a universal outcrossing system and other specific factors like differences in age classes and widely scattered individuals around the main distribution. Heterozygosity was highest at a mid-range of elevation($450m{\sim}600m$). The lowest heterozygosity at lower elevation was attributed to the possible origin of seeds transported by water from upstream regions during the monsoon season. Spatial structure in a subpopulation evidenced a strong autocorrelation between closer individuals within $3{\sim}4m$ of distance. This was assumed to be attributable to the restricted seed dispersal characteristics of S. renifolius. In accordance with the findings generated in this study, some implications regarding the conservation of S. renifolius at the Mt. Cheonma were also presented.

The social influence of the elderly population will accelerate in a rapidly aging society. The purpose of this study is to establish a methodology for extracting vulnerable districts of the welfare of the aged through machine learning(ML), artificial neural network(ANN) and geospatial analysis. In order to establish the direction of analysis, this progressed after an interview with volunteers who over 65-year old people, public officer and the manager of the aged welfare facility. The indicators are the geographic distance capacity, elderly welfare enjoyment, officially assessed land price and mobile communication based on old people activities where 500 m vector areal unit within 15 minutes in Yongin-city, Gyeonggi-do. As a result, the prediction accuracy of 83.2% in the support vector machine(SVM) of ML using the RBF kernel algorithm was obtained in simulation. Furthermore, the correlation result(0.63) was derived from ANN using backpropagation algorithm. A geographically weighted regression(GWR) was also performed to analyze spatial autocorrelation within variables. As a result of this analysis, the coefficient of determination was 70.1%, which showed good explanatory power. Moran's I and Getis-Ord Gi coefficients are analyzed to investigate spatially outlier as well as distribution patterns. This study can be used to solve the welfare imbalance of the aged considering the local conditions of the government recently.
Pinus pumila, which occurs in the northeast Asia, is found limitedly in Daecheongbong area of Mt. Seorak in the South Korea. This population was chosen to study spatial pattern, genetic diversity and spatial genetic structure. There were 48 polymorphic and 30 monomorphic I-SSR markers. A total of 65 individuals which distributed in the study site (40 m ${\times}$ 70 m) showed weakly aggregate distribution (Aggregate Index = 0.871). A total of 40 genets were observed from 65 individuals through I-SSR genotype comparison. Proportion of distinguishable genotype (G/N), genotype diversity (D) and genotype evenness (E) were 61.5%, 0.977 and 0.909, respectively. In spite of the small number and the limited distribution, Shannon's diversity index (I = 0.567) was relatively high as compared with those of other plant species. Spatial autocorrelation using Tanimoto's distance showed that the genetic patch was established within 12 m. Based on Mantel tests, there was relatively low correlation between genetic distance and geographic distance. Therefore, it seems the P. pumila population was formed by many parent trees in early stage. For ex situ genetic conservation of P. pumila, the sampling strategy is efficient at least above 12 m between individual trees.
The purpose of this paper was to describe a statistical analysis for the spatial distribution of geographical distances of Erythronium japonicum at Mt. Geumjeong in Korea. The spatial pattern of E. japonicum was analyzed according to the nearest neighbor rule, population aggregation under different plot sizes by dispersion indices, and spatial autocorrelation. Most natural plots of E. japonicum were uniformly distributed in the forest community. Disturbed plots were aggregately distributed within 5 m × 5 m of one another. Neighboring patches of E. japonicum were predominantly 7.5~10 m apart on average. If the natural populations of E. japonicum were disturbed by human activities, then the aggregation occurred in a shorter distance than the 7.5~10 m distance scale. The Morisita index (IM) is related to the patchiness index (PAI) that showed the 2.5 m × 5 m plot had an overly steep slope at the west and south areas when the area was smaller than 5 m × 5 m. When the patch size was one 2.5 m × 5 m quadrat at the west distributed area of Mt. Geumjeong, the cluster was determined by both species characteristics and environmental factors. The comparison of Moran's I values to a logistic regression indicated that individuals in E. japonicum populations at Mt. Geumjeong could be explained by isolation by distance.
