  • The purpose of this study was to examine how college students' attitudes toward the use of money and credit cards have affected their financial management practices. The data were collected from 231 college students in Seoul using by a self administered questionnaire. Frequencies, factor analyses, t-tests, ANOVA, and multiple regression were conducted using by SPSSWIN 12.0. The results from this study were as follows. First, results of the factor analysis of attitudes toward the use of money were divided into 5 dimensions such as instrument of ostentation, sufficiency of desire, source of anxiety, diligence and economy, and instrument of preparation for the future. Attitudes toward the uses of credit cards were divided into 3 dimensions, such as positive affection, cognition of reverse function, and attitudes of use-behavior. Financial management practices were divided into 2 dimensions: planning and performing. Second, social-demographical & economical factors, among such as gender, allowance, financial stress, number of credit -cards possessed, and expenses of credit -cards totals each month were significant in the regression analyses for the financial management practices. The results indicate that attitudes toward the use of money have a bigger effect on financial management practices than attitudes towards credit cards. Specifically, attitudes toward the use of money as an instrument of preparation for the future had the most effect on the financial management practices. These results imply that for sound financial management practices to take place, there needs to be education on attitudes toward the use of money.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in adolescents' conspicuous consumption, and their attitude toward and purchasing behaviors for the imported luxuries and the famous brand clothing. A questionnaire survey was conducted to 570 high school students in Seoul; 538 were used for final data analysis. Factor analysis, cluster analysis, $\chi$$^2$-analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Range test were used for the statistical analyses. In terms of conspicuous consumption, three factors were formulated: brand and fashion orientation, others orientations, and prize and import orientation. Based on the factor scores, three clusters were identified: the inconspicuous, the others-oriented conspicuous, and the brand-oriented conspicuous. Regarding attitudes toward the products, significant differences were found in all attitudes. The brand-oriented conspicuous showed more favorable attitude toward the products than the other groups. Significant differences were also found in purchasing behaviors except the companions for shopping and purchase time. The brand-oriented conspicuous tended to purchase more, spend more money, prefer department stores, consider brand name and customer service as the most important criteria, and use impersonal informations sources when shopping the products. The other-oriented conspicuous tended to buy bogus products the most, use personal information and consider price and others' perception as important criteria. The inconspicuous were less likely to buy and spend money for the products.

Differences in attitudes toward fashion were also investigated among the groups determined by demographic characteristics. Data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire survey to 600 high school girls living in Seoul, and 480 were used for the data analysis. Cluster analysis, Chi-sguare analysis, ANOVA, and Duncan\`s multiple range test were used for data analysis. Technical school students and those who spending higher amount of monthly allowances showed favorable attitudes toward fashion. Based on the attitudes toward fashion, respondents were classified into 3 groups : fashion-oriented(32.3%), fashion-conformed(47.3%), and unconcerned(20.4%). Among the 3 groups, the Fashion-oriented tended to make purchase decision for clothing based on there own, or peer\`s opinions, to use personal sources for information search, to spend more money for clothing, and to consider design and brand names as the most important criteria when purchasing apparel products than the less fashion-oriented did. • Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the length of exposure to smartphone and its association with dietary behavior toward snacks, lifestyle, and nutrition knowledge in elementary school students. Methods: Subjects were 372 5th and 6th grade schoolchildren in Cheongju, Korea, and data was collected by a self-administered questionnaire. They were divided into two groups by the time spent using smartphone: moderate (< 2 hours/day) and overexposure (${\geq}2$ hours/day). Data was analyzed using frequency analysis, ${\chi}^2$-test, and independent t-test as well as analysis of covariance when necessary. Results: Approximately half of subjects (41.4%) reported spending ${\geq}2$ hours/day using smartphone. That habit was more frequent among students in the 6th grade, those who received more monthly allowance, and who has a working mother. 63.4% of the subjects reported that they consumed snacks while watching television, using a computer and/or a smartphone and 48.1% said that they consumed snacks while they use a smartphone. Both situations were most prevalent among those with overexposure to smartphone (${\geq}2$ hours/day). We also observed that a higher percentage of subjects from the overexposure group spent more money on snack foods with the preference for ice cream, fast food, and carbonated drinks. Further, those in the overexposure group consumed more ice cream, cookies, and carbonated drinks. In addition, they had less desirable dietary behavior and health-related lifestyle (sleep duration and frequency of regular exercise) compared to those with moderate smartphone usage (< 2 hours/day). However, there was no statistical difference in nutrition knowledge among children with different degrees of smartphone usage. Conclusions: Our results showed that longer smartphone use was associated with less desirable snack preference/consumption and other dietary behavior in elementary school students. Thus interest and positive attitudes towards healthy snacks and diet should be reinforced in nutrition education programs, especially for those who are prone to use smartphones.
