  • Developing accurate prediction models for deterioration behavior represents a challenging but essential task in comprehensive Infrastructure Management Systems. The challenge may be a result of the lack of historical data, impact of unforeseen parameters, and/or the past repair/maintenance practices. These realities contribute heavily to the noticeable variability in deterioration behavior even among similar components. This paper introduces a novel approach to predict the deterioration of any infrastructure component. The approach is general as it fits any component, however the prediction is custom for a specific item to consider the inherent impacts of expected and unexpected parameters that affect its unique deterioration behavior.

  • Mobile devices are the most important equipment for accessing various kinds of services. These services are accessed using wireless signals, the same used for mobile calls. Today mobile services provide a fast and excellent way to access all kinds of information via mobile phones. Mobile service providers are interested to know the access behavior pattern of the users from different locations at different timings. In this paper, we have introduced an associated tree for analyzing user behavior patterns while moving from one location to another. We have used four different parameters, namely user, location, dwell time, and services. These parameters provide stronger frequent accessing patterns by matching joins. These generated patterns are valuable for improving web services, recommending new services, and predicting useful services for individuals or groups of users. In addition, an experimental evaluation has been conducted on simulated data. Finally, performance of the proposed approach has been measured in terms of efficiency and scalability. The proposed approach produces excellent results.

  • This paper presents a displacement-based numerical methodology following the Euler-Bernoulli theory to simulate the 2 nonlinear behavior of steel structures. It is worth emphasizing the adoption of co-rotational finite element formulations considering large displacements and rotations and an inelastic material behavior. The numerical procedures proposed considers plasticity concentrated at the finite elements nodes, and the simulation of the steel nonlinear behavior is approached via the Strain Compatibility Method (SCM), where the material constitutive relation is used explicitly. The SCM is also applied in determining the sections bearing capacity. Moreover, the present numerical approach is not limited to a specific structural member cross-sectional typology, with the residual stress models introduced explicitly in subareas of steel cross-sections generated by a 2D discretization. Finally, results consistent with the literature and with low processing time are presented.

  • This article examines the cost of pressure to achieve in Korea, which is the theme of the special issue focusing on the psychological dynamics and factors influencing delinquent behavior among Korea adolescents. This article reviews empirical studies of delinquent behavior among Korean adolescent and articulate policy and programs necessary to prevent the rising trend. First, in order to prevent delinquent behavior and enhance their self-efficacy, programs need to be developed to allow them to succeed in non-academic areas. Second, adolescents who engage in delinquent behavior are likely to experience problems in interpersonal, such as parental rejection, social exclusion from friends and hostility from teachers. Third, adolescents delinquent behaviors are influenced by negative parental socialization practices, delinquent behavior of their peers, moral disengagement and their previous participation in delinquent behavior. Fourth, the importance of indigenous psychological approach to increase the quality of life for adolescents who engage in delinquent behavior is outlined.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of two different characteristics of music(tempo) and advertising photograph(type) in a fashion store on consumers' emotional responses and approach behavior and to suggest competitive in-store atmospheric strategies. To test the conceptual model, this study used a video simulation method. Researchers selected a fashion casual wear retail store for young people and videotaped to provide realistic store settings. Two different levels of background music(fast, slow) and advertising photograph(sexy, cheerful) were inserted into the video clip generating four stimuli. Including a stimulus for the control group, 5 video clips were created. A total of 289 subjects answered the questionnaire after viewing a two-minute video clips. The results are as follows: First, advertising photograph in a store had a significant effect on consumers' in-store emotional state, whereas musical tempo did not. Second, the effect of in-store consumers' emotional state on behavioral reponses were investigated. Results showed that consumers' positive emotional state lead to consumers' approach behavior. The results of this study indicated that background music and advertising photograph in a fashion store affected consumers' in-store emotional state, and ultimately these affected consumers' positive approach behavior. Thus retailer should try to create a pleasant store environment using effective store atmospheric factors like background music and advertising photograph.

  • This paper presents a linear state feedback control approach to the stabilization of discrete-time uncertain systems with bounded uncertain parameters. The approach is based on the LQ(linear quadratic) regulator theory and Lyapunov's stability analysis. Asymptotically stable behavior is guaranteed in the presence of parameter uncertainties, and the upper bound of the performance index is determined.

  • An anisotropic damage mechanics approach is introduced which models the static and dynamic behavior of mass concrete in 3D space. The introduced numerical approach is able to model non-uniform cracking within the cracked element due to cracking in Gaussian points of elements. The validity of the proposed model is considered using available experimental and theoretical results under the static and dynamic loads. No instability and stress locking is observed in the conducted analyses. The Morrow Point dam is analyzed including dam-reservoir interaction effects to consider the nonlinear seismic behavior of the dam. It is found that the resulting crack profiles are in good agreement with those obtained from the smeared crack approach. It is concluded that the proposed model can be used in nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of concrete dams in 3D space and enables engineers to define the damage level of these infrastructures. The performance level of the considered system is used to assess the static and seismic safety using the defined performance based criteria.

  • An energy-based approach for determining earthquake safety of reinforced concrete frame structures is presented. The developed approach is based on comparison of plastic energy capacities of the structures with plastic energy demands obtained for selected earthquake records. Plastic energy capacities of the selected reinforced concrete frames are determined graphically by analyzing plastic hinge regions with the developed equations. Seven earthquake records are chosen to perform the nonlinear time history analyses. Earthquake plastic energy demands are determined from nonlinear time history analyses and hysteretic behavior of earthquakes is converted to monotonic behavior by using nonlinear moment-rotation relations of plastic hinges and plastic axial deformations in columns. Earthquake safety of selected reinforced concrete frames is assessed by using plastic energy capacity graphs and earthquake plastic energy demands. The plastic energy dissipation capacities of the frame structures are examined whether these capacities can withstand the plastic energy demands for selected earthquakes or not. The displacements correspond to the mean plastic energy demands are obtained quite close to the displacements determined by using the procedures given in different seismic design codes.
