In this study, the content and level of the elements of Computational Thinking in the Software Education area of elementary practical textbooks were analyzed, and also the computing ratio for each textbook learning activity was analyzed. The elements of Computational Thinking were defined based on the components and definitions of Computational Thinking skills suggested by the Ministry of Education. The contents of Software Education area in practical arts textbooks published by six publishers were analyzed. As a result of analyzing the elements of Computational Thinking for each textbook according to the achievement criteria, there was a difference in whether sub-elements of Computational Thinking were included for each textbook. Second, as a result of analyzing the level of Computing of learning content, the proportion of textbooks presenting Abstract activities connected to Computing was relatively low. When the curriculum is reorganized or the textbook is revised in the future, it is necessary to complement the elements of Computational Thinking in a balanced way, and to include general Abstraction activities and Abstraction activities that can lead to Automation.

As the importance of visual media has been highlighted, the proportion of the animation curriculum is growing in middle school curriculum. However, the analysis of errors in the textbook is very important for the authentic education. The present art textbooks were authorized as 7 kinds-total 21 books of the 7th curriculum and have been used in junior high schools since 2001. As an analysis configuration or errors in the animation section of art textbooks, the problems were as follows. Firstly, the animation section has considerable differences depend on the contents and the authors of the textbooks. Secondly, the most practical contents are at the first stage of the production of video equipment. In addition, ineffective picture process, incorrect concepts and terminology are presented. There were also errors in using them.

This study was to analyze how elementary school science textbooks explain dissolution and to examine the patterns of elementary school teachers' conceptions on dissolution and the teaching practices on dissolution of elementary school teachers. According to the result of the textbook analysis, the textbooks based on the 7th curriculum didn't explain dissolution very differently from those based on the 6th curriculum. The contents dealing with dissolution in the textbooks of 7th curriculum became difficult gradually as the year went up, but the connected organization of the contents made students learn it easily. For example, in order to learn dissolution introduced first in the 3rd year 2nd semester textbook, students would tell soluble substance in water from insoluble substance in water as they put powdered substance in water. In the 5th year 1st semester textbook students were supposed to acquire the knowledge related to dissolution through the designed activities such as comparing solubility produced by different solvents and defining a solvent, a solute, dissolution, and a solution. In addition, teachers' guide for 5th year 1st semester textbook elucidated the principle of dissolution using attraction concept that was scientific. The result of the survey on teachers showed that 90% of elementary school teachers understood the dissolution of salt in water just as millet particles' filling the space between bean particles and they responded that they demonstrated millet particles' filling the space between been particles when they taught the dissolution of salt in water. When it comes to teachers who had the right idea on dissolution as the attraction conception, understanding was one thing and teaching was another, because they often instructed dissolution as the space conception in the real teaching.

The purpose of this study was to find out how much home economics(HE) textbook was focused on what kind of factors in career education, by analyzing the HE textbooks from the 7th grade(1st grade of the middle school) to the 10th grade(1st grade of high school), which were developed by applying the 7th educational process. 12 textbooks which were published by three publishers were randomly selected by grade. This study used the instrument developed by Korea Research Institute for Vacational Education & Training(2001) as an analysis frame, along with a content analysis system. The results of this study were as follows. The publishers of HE textbook stressed similar points in each section of career education, evenly reflecting the objectives and contents of career education. Three kinds of publishers also placed the same weight on the factors of career education in each unit, and suggested the contents related to career education in the whole units. HE textbook was designed to lead learners to understand self and have interest in varied occupations. Additionally, it provided the learners with a chance to consider their career and occupation by means of detailed job information, and its contents including learning of occupational ability for job selection were useful to plan and prepare for career. Accordingly, as HE textbook is most effective to promote connection between work and learning and contains proper factors of career guidance, it is one of the most appropriate textbooks to deal with career education.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the inscription of North Korean Higher-Level Middle School 1 chemistry textbooks in the era of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to understand North Korean chemistry education. The types and functions of inscription for each unit of the North Korean Higher-Level Middle School 1 Chemistry textbook were analyzed and compared with the inscription of the 'Chemistry I' textbook in South Korea. Inscriptions were analyzed by constructing an analysis frame based on previous studies. The analysis results were as follows. First, as for the types of inscription used in North Korean textbooks, photographs and illustrations were used the most, and graphs were used the least. Second, the functions of inscription used in North Korean textbooks had many exploratory and exemplary functions, and decorative functions were used the least. Third, there was no significant difference in type and function of textbook inscriptions from North and South Korea. The results of this study may be helpful in understanding North Korean chemistry education.

Illustration, which is shown in the textbook for educational purpose is used to explain basic educational theory, rather than carrying meaning itself. It has proper educational value when presented appropriately according to the process of knowledge acquirement. This research organized new analyzing criterion for the frame and content analysis subjected on 4 sanitation textbooks of middle school, moreover looked into actual situation by convergent analysis. This is for political suggestion that is helpful to further textbook development; by understanding improvement point required in reaching educational purpose presented in health education course manual. Results are as following. First, in the aspect of frame, diagrams with proper function to explain principle of health and sanitary activities should be more frequently suggested. Second in the aspect of content, illustrations for simple data providing or for decoration should be reduced while illustrations suggesting experimental results should be added, to reorganize health textbook according to the purpose of health education course.

Illustrations and letters are two components of school textbooks. In the case of low grades of elementary school, textbook's illustrations play an important role in learning because many parts of curriculums(lessons) are represented by the visual forms through illustrations. So elementary mathematics textbook's illustrations have to make clear mathematical concepts and principles by visual simplification and bring out of the interest and motivation of elementary school students' learning. In this paper, we analysed the external and content aspects of textbook's illustrations, focusing on the textbook of the second grade. We investigated number, kindness, size, ratio, and clearness of illustrations in regard to external aspects. On the aspects of content, we analysed the role of illustrations and the degree of agreement with contents. Also we classified types of error in the textbook's illustrations and presented examples of errors which was found.

The purpose of this study is to develop and applicate the elementary environmental textbook in order to solve its problem and to improve attitude related to the Asian dust. The results in this research are as follows. First, it was showed that three groups who composed of teachers, parents and students in the elementary school had recognized the serosities and problems caused by the Asian dust form TV, and that such problems was associated with increase of the desertification and the global warming. Especially the student group insist that the cause in Asian dust is due to the natural phenomena or industrialization. Second, as a result in analysis on the Asian dust through both textbooks on the 7th elementary curriculum and subsidiary textbooks, contents concerning Asian dusts was little or noting. In addition, in the subjects of Science, Society and Health for the 5th and 6th grade students in the elementary school, they were explained partially as one of the air pollutants. Third, the elementary environmental textbook on the Asian dust was developed for the 5th and 6th grade students. The textbook is composed of four contents on the material which is harmful of the human health and life in Asian dust, the special news of Asian dust, and the best answer to solve Asian dust as well as the cause and the source of Asian dust. Forth, as a result in classes using the environmental textbook developed by four themes about the Asian dust, its application is meaningful in the level of p value in the view of knowledge, awareness and attitude of the experiment group. They was more improved in 37%, 14%, and 15%, respectively, than the comparative group. In conclusion, the environmental textbook related to Asian dust will play an important role in useful tool to understand the right knowledge, awareness, and attitude which makes an effort on its effective management in the elementary school.

The present study examined the inquiry type, process, and context of activities presented in the matter field of the 7th grade science textbook based on the 7th curriculum. It was to investigate for educational suggestions in instruction and development of science textbook. Three units of ‘three states of matter', ‘motion of molecule', ‘the state change and energy' were analyzed. The result indicated that the types, processes and skills, and context of inquiry were not balanced, and learners should be educated with complementary inquiry activities. It is proposed that the inquiry activities presented in science textbooks be examined, and the framework to evaluate inquiry activities be reflected on the standard of science textbook authorization for development of the science textbook to accord with aims and objectives of curriculum.

This study aims to find out the meaning of characters used in science textbooks by analyzing the roles of the characters on the 2009 revised science textbooks and the extracted sentences and see if there are indications referable to compiling future science textbooks by finding out where the characters are efficiently used and where supplement is needed. Target textbooks among those developed for the 2009 revised elementary school science textbooks are the first and second semester of the 4th-grade. Methods used include analysis on the roles of character-containing questions using character role analysis whose illustration analysis frame is more supplemented/adjusted than those used in the foregoing studies, analysis on character-containing questions using the existing analysis frame, analysis/survey on good cases and cases needing supplement through consultation with a science education expert, two teachers, etc. The result shows that among types of character roles, motivation and material provision are more used than experiment guide, experiment, and observation results. Result of analyzing in-textbook characters by field shows that life sphere is more used than free exploration, energy, material, and earth. Result of analyzing question types shows the order of expanding, anticipatory, transferable and personal questions and there were no reminiscent and evaluative questions. Based on the result of this study, indications on how to use in-science textbook characters more efficiently and developmentally are needed.
