The Effects of the Smoking Cessation Program of Life Skill Training Using Flipped Learning for Middle School Male Students (남자중학생 대상 플립드러닝 적용 생활기술훈련 금연 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose: The study is examined the effects of the smoking cessation program of life skills training using flipped learning for male middle school students. Methods: The study was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design. The Smoking Cessation Program of life skills training using flipped learning is a Smoking Cessation Program that applied 5 stages of flipped learning such as before class, introductory class, during class, after class, and during work. Participants were 32 male students attending a middle school in D city, with 16 in the control group and 16 in the experiment group. Data collection was conducted from February 26, 2019 to May 14, 2019 for the control group, and from May 28, 2019 to August 19, 2019 for the experiment group. The collected smoking knowledge, smoking attitude, self-efficacy, basic psychological needs, and urine cotinine were analyzed by x2 test, independent t-test, two-way repeated measured ANOVA, and Fishers exact test using the SPSS 25.0 program. Results: The experimental group showed higher smoking knowledge, smoking attitude, self-efficacy, basic psychological need, and urine cotinine negative response than the control group, and there were significant differences. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the Smoking Cessation Program of life skill training using flipped learning is an effective intervention for cessation of middle school male students, and it has a positive effect on the increase in urine cotinine, and a physiological indicator of the cessation effect, and is effective in the success of smoking cessation.

The Effects of Environmental Education Program using Action Learning on the Environmental Literacy and Self-efficacy of Elementary Students (액션러닝을 활용한 환경교육 프로그램이 초등학생의 환경소양과 자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of environmental education programs using action learning on elementary school students' environmental literacy and self-efficacy. To this end, an environmental education program using action learning was applied to 22 sixth graders of 'A' Elementary School in Busan. The results of this study were as follows. First, environmental education programs using action learning were effective in improving the environmental literacy of elementary school students. After implementing the environmental education program using action learning, students' environmental values, cognitive, and procedural ability changed positively. Environmental issues awareness and ecological knowledge improved, and there was a significant increase in environmental behavior and environmental function. Second, environmental education programs using action learning were effective in enhancing the self-efficacy of elementary school students. After implementing environmental education programs using action learning, students' confidence in problem solving and their ability to judge their behaviors improved. Third, elementary school students showed active participation and interest when conducting environmental education programs using action learning. Students have become open to protecting the environment when they find problems, devise solutions, and practice them. After reflection, it was confirmed that students' immersion and satisfaction in class were high as a solution was reached, leading to efforts to sell items they did not use and donate profits to environmental protection organizations.

Development and Application of the STEAM Teaching-Learning Program in 'Earth & Moon' Unit for Science Gifted Elementary School Students (초등과학영재를 위한 '지구와 달' 단원의 STEAM 교수·학습 프로그램 개발 및 적용)

  • This study is aimed to find out the effect after the development and application of the STEAM teaching-learning program for science gifted elementary school students. The validity of the developed program was verified by three experts. The program consists of a total of eight classes and eight days were carried out. Recorded lessons, class observation journal, and recorded interview transcription data were measured and then analyzed the effect. 'Present situation' is a very important step was confirmed. The degree of understanding of a given situation affected to task commitment, the formation of scientific concepts, creative design and deliverable.

A Case Study of the Use of Artificial Intelligence in a Problem-Based Learning Program for the Prevention of School Violence (학교폭력 예방을 위한 가정과 AI 기반 문제중심학습 수업 사례연구)

  • The aim of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate the use of Artificial Intelligence in the prevention of violence among middle-school students. The sample for this study consisted of 20 first-year middle-school students who participated in theme selection activities in a free semester program as part of their home economics studies. The data for the study consisted of nine class observation logs, four group activity outputs, 30 class results, an online survey, and in-depth interviews with three students. A program called "R.U.OK" was developed by setting problematic situation for school violence prevention linked to the contents of the Home Economics Education(HEE) curriculum. After the program was implemented, the survey on the students' class satisfaction content elements, with AI-based learning activities and PBL and interest, displayed high points, with an average of 4.0 or higher. Our qualitative analysis produced four significant results. First, students' concerns about school violence had increased and they showed a change in attitude, having more empathy with friends and more interest in their surroundings. Second, digital and AI literacy had improved, and students' interest in digital media learning had increased. Third, there had been an improvement in problem-solving ability in terms of being able to think more critically and independently. Fourth, the results also demonstrated that there had been a positive effect on self-direction and an improved capacity for teamwork. This study was significant in demonstrating the effectiveness of a program for the prevention of school violence based on the use of digital technology in the educational environment.

The Effects of Out-of-Class Environmental Experience Learning on Elementary Students' Environmental Literacy (체험형 환경학습 프로그램이 초등학생의 환경소양에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was to find out the effects of out-of-class environmental experience learning on elementary students' environmental literacy. For this study, we developed and applied environmental education program utilizing out-of-class facilities and ecological park for the 5th-grade students. The subjects of this study were the 5th grade students of an elementary school located in Si-hung city. The study was carried out for two groups, an experiment group of 29 students and control group of 29 students. The education program using out-of-class environmental experience learning was provided to the experiment group while lecture-oriented education program was provided to the control group. The questionnaire used in this study to assess the environmental literacy of the study objects consists of 41 questions under 4 domains (knowledge, emotion, skill, behavior). After observing and analyzing the effects of out-of-class environmental experience learning on students' environmental literacy, we found that the program using the out-of-class environmental experience learning posed greater impacts than lecture-oriented program. By domains, environmental literacy in 3 domains illustrated positive improvement. In particular, skill domain illustrated much more improvement in environmental literacy. But, domain of behavior didn't illustrated improvement in environmental literacy. The result of this study signified that the out-of-class environmental experience learning has positive and effective impact on the environmental literacy. And out-of-class environmental experience learning is more suitable to improve the skill domain of the environmental literacy than lecture-oriented learning. But, it is couldn't improve the domain of behavior. Therefore, in order to improve behavior domain, the program must apply with effective evaluation and home training.

Effects of basketball training program for 12 weeks of after school on physical abilities and learning related factors in middle school students (중학생들의 12주간 방과 후 농구 훈련 프로그램 참여가 신체활동능력과 학습관련요인에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to examine the effects of an after-school basketball training program of 12 weeks on physical abilities (grip strength, endurance, and flexibility) and learning-related factors (cognition strength, cognition speed, concentration, and mental workload) in middle school students. Middle school students (Males, N=20) were recruited for use in this study and were randomly divided into either a basketball training group (n = 10, BT) or a non-exercise control group (n = 10, CON). Two-way repeated measures ANOVA with post-hoc testing was used for data analysis. Results found endurance and flexibility in the BT group were significantly increased, but not in the CON group. In addition, cognition strength, speed, and concentration in the BT group increased and mental workload in the BT group slightly decreased. In contrast, the CON group showed a significant increase in mental workload. Our findings show that participation in after-school physical education activities (e.g., basketball training program) positively improves physical abilities and increases brain functions for learning.

Development and Effect of Math-Tour to improve Mathematics Study Attitude (수학 학습에 대한 긍정적 태도 신장을 위한 매쓰투어(Math-Tour) 개발 및 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to prove the effect of Mathematics field experience trip program on students' attitude in learning Mathematics. For this we developed Jejumok-Gwanna Math-Tour program in 2019 for students which would make them to walk and experience mathematics in the field. In that program, we suggested several Mathematics examples about natural objects and artifacts in Jejumok-Gwanna. After that, we let A middle school students within Jeju to experience this program in order to see the effect of this program. We asked participants to write pre- and past- questionnaire, have an interview, and write review. After analyzing those, this study concluded that the effect of Jejumok-Gwanna Math-Tour on student's attitude in learning mathematics was statically significant. The result of this study suggested that Mathematics Field Experience Study Program could be useful to improve student's attitude in learning mathematics.

The Effects of Brain-Based STEAM Teaching-Learning Program on Creativity and Emotional Intelligence of the Science-Gifted Elementary Students and General Students (뇌 기반 STEAM 교수-학습 프로그램이 초등과학영재와 초등일반학생의 창의성과 정서지능에 미치는 효과)

  • The creative thinking and emotional trainings are very important educational issues in the knowledge-information-based future society. Recently STEAM education is suggested as one of the educational solutions to prepare the future society. The aims of this study are to develop STEAM teaching-learning program and analyze its effects on the creativity and emotional intelligence of science-gifted and general students in elementary school. Four different subject matters based on the 2007-revised curriculum were selected to construct the brain-based STEAM teaching-learning program consisting of 12 class hours. The program was applied to 50 elementary general students and 19 science-gifted elementary students. The findings of this research are as follows. The brain-based STEAM programs is effective to improve the creativity and emotional intelligence of science-gifted and general elementary students after class. The creativity of two groups was not statistically different before the class. However after class, the creativity of gifted-science students is significantly higher than that of general students. The emotional intelligence of gifted-science students was higher than that of general students before the class. Therefore in oder to analyze the different effects of the program on two groups in emotional intelligence, the test results of both group of students were analyzed by ANCOVA after class. This analysis also showed that the program is more effective in gifted-science students to improve the emotional intelligence compared to general students.

A study of the efficient application of Discretion activity in Mathematics curriculum (수학 교과 재량활동시간의 효율적인 운영에 관한 연구)

  • For the efficient application of curriculum discretion activity, I developed the program, 'Let's go together', so that curriculum discretion activity can be applied in the classroom. The program consists of several experiences, which are <Man to man paired study>, <the learning materials for Mathematics in our lives>, <the cooperative study in the class> and <the variety experiences about Mathematics>. This study shows the following results: First, T-test about the students' learning attitude and interest in Mathematics, there was dramatic change in students' desire, interest and attitude for mathematics learning. Second, as the role of Baewomi & Dowomi in 'Man to man paired study', Baewomi & Dowomi provided students with confidence of mathematics learning. We were able to ensure this fact from students' essay after the class. Third, teachers found that the number of students who had positive attitude with Self-directed study increased. And students tried to solve mathematical problems by themselves and the time using self-directed learning experience was also increased. This study suggests that there needs more development for learning materials for mathematics in our lives.

Research on a statistics education program utilizing deep learning predictions in high school mathematics (고등학교 수학에서 딥러닝 예측을 이용한 통계교육 프로그램 연구)

  • The education sector is undergoing significant changes due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the advancement of artificial intelligence. Particularly, the importance of education based on artificial intelligence is being emphasized. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to develop a statistics education program using deep learning prediction in high school mathematics and to examine the impact of such statistically problem-solvingcentered statistics education programs on high school students' statistical literacy and computational thinking. To achieve this goal, a statistics education program using deep learning prediction applicable to high school mathematics was developed. The analysis revealed that students' understanding of context improved through experiencing how data was generated and collected. Additionally, they enhanced their comprehension of data variability while exploring and analyzing various datasets. Moreover, they demonstrated the ability to critically analyze data during the process of validating its reliability. In order to analyze the impact of the statistics education program on high school students' computational thinking, a paired sample t-test was conducted, confirming a statistically significant difference in computational thinking between before and after classes (t=-11.657, p<0.001).
