The purpose of this study is to conduct a case study on the current status of financial and non-financial retirement preparation of the small and medium-sized company workers. Many pre-retirees worry that their retirement savings may not generate enough income in retirement, and the level of benefits paid in public pension is inadequate. Second, they are preparing for retirement in the areas of finance, health, working after retirement and social activity. Third, they are realistic and practical in retirement decisions makings. they are considering household budget downsizing, cutting education costs, the low-waged job choice and cash flow preference in retirement. The safety and reality in preparation for retirement are top considerations. In conclusion, this case study shows that pre-retirees of small and medium-sized companies are seeking diverse retirement solutions. We need to design integrated and practical retirement planning programs to support their specific retirement needs.

This paper is aimed to study on residential choice after retirement. For this reason, this study is analyzed in three aspects ; the factors of residential choice, preferred house types and scales, the characterization of residential mobility. This study reached several conclusions. Firstly, Korea baby boomers are likely to select their residence with different factors after retirement, and they are likely to choose their residence in the view of comfort and convenience. Secondly, apartment resident ratio is shown to be reduced after retirement, and the preference for the country houses and town houses is shown to be increased. Thirdly, the baby boomers don't reduce their residential scale in batches, while they are to show a different appearance depending on the retention scale of housing. Fourthly, The 62.4% of Korean baby boomers is to plan move their residences after retirement, 52.3% of movers, more than half of them, is to go to the different residential area. Fifth, it is analyzed that different variables are to influence on the local and regional of residential mobility of the baby boomers in Korea.
Recently, there is a growing interest in housing policy to prepare for the aging society. The purpose of this study is exploring the factors that explain housing consumption and adjustment of pre-retirees after retirement. 1,351 samples were collected from A bank and analyzed. There categories of housing consumption adjustment were considered including downsizing, maintain, and upsizing. Gender, educational level, housing size, housing type, asset size, and willingness to work after retirement were examined to see if they can explain the housing consumption adjustment of pre-retirees using orderd- probit model. The finding of this study is that housing size, asset size, and willingness to work after retirement statistically significantly explain the housing consumption adjustment. At specific, firstly, if the current size of the housing is relatively large, it is highly likely to downsize housing after retirement. Second, pre-retiree whose assets exceeded 1 billion won were more likely to scale up housing than assets of over 300 million to less than 500 million won. Lastly, unless there is absolutely no willingness to work after retirement, it is indicated that it intends to up-sizing consumption rather than down-sizing adjustment. The results of this study can provide useful information for the housing policy in order to prepare for the (post) aged society.
This study was to examine the effects of economic, social, psychological, and marital resources on the relationship between retirement related stress and life satisfaction among the retired husbands and their wives. Economic resources included actual income, the amount of reduced income after retirement, and perceived adequacy of income, while social resources consisted of the supports from children, relatives, friends and neighbors. Psychological resources constituted sense of mastery and marital resource was measured by the emotional supports from the spouse. Data from 178 couples in Seoul revealed that retirees and their spouse perceived retirement as a very stressful extent, with husbands viewing their retirement as more stressful than their wives. The retirement related stress was found to be the most significant predictor on the life satisfaction of the couples. For retired husbands, life satisfaction was closely associated to sense of mastery and supports from children and relatives. The health status, perceived adequacy of income, sense of mastery, and supports from children and relatives were related to life satisfaction for wives. Therefore, the effects of personal resources on life satisfaction were smarter than that of retirement related stress for both retired husbands and their wives. Along with discussions, implications for retirement education and suggestions for future study are provided.
In this study we propose a model of optimal retirement, consumption and portfolio choice of an individual agent, which encompasses a large class of the models in the literature, and provide a methodology to solve the model. Different from the traditional approach, we consider the problems before and after retirement simultaneously and identify the difference in the dual value functions as the utility value of lifetime labor. The utility value has an option nature, namely, it is the maximized value of choosing the retirement time optimally and we discover it by solving a variational inequality. Then, we discover the dual value functions by using the utility value. We discover the value function and optimal policies by establishing a duality between the value function and the dual value function. The model and approach offer a significant advantage for computation of optimal policies for a large class of problems.

Purpose: Many people recognize the fact that women are basically poor at financial and retirement planning. A small number of scholars have explored the factors and situations that influence the level of awareness of pre-retirement women and men with regards to planning for their retirement years. In most developing countries, including Malaysia, there are more men in the younger segment of the population and more women in the older segment, since women tend to live longer than men due to having jobs of relatively lower risk, their behaviors, and activities. Research design, data and methodology: Given that it is hard to predict whether they will be healthy in old age, women may require additional resources to obtain the care and assistance that they need. The transition from career life into retirement is a long process for people to go through. Some may be able to prepare for the next stage of life, and some may not be able to prepare due to personal reasons. Planning for future retirement is important because it will affect the quality of a woman's life after a certain age. Results: Without proper planning, women may face financial instability, depression, and poor psychological well-being. However, many women are unaware of their financial status or do not know their family's financial status, such as tracking the main income, budget, and expenses, financial commitments and have no proper record of assets owned, loans owed, or updated loan balances. Conclusions: The findings of this research have led to the conclusion that pre-retiree women are likely to regard their retirement savings as sufficient without realizing that they should have at least several types of savings instead of just one, and the grave consequences of not having any savings at all for their retirement years.
This study investigated the experiences of baby boomers' social participation through social contribution jobs after retirement, using content analysis. The baby boomers who participated in social contribution jobs after retirement showed a strong desire to work, and were provided with rewarding and self-development, which resulted in family members viewing job participation positively. In addition, through self-help groups and communities, they shared information for the program and formed a social relationship. However, they expressed dissatisfaction with the instability and discontinuity of the job with low salary, with job interview repeated every year. As for the future direction, it is necessary that jobs utilize the skills and expertise of the baby boomers, the bridging jobs as an income guarantee after retirement, and the promotion of industries with marketability and publicness through institutional and regulatory reform. It is emphasized that the human resources of the retired baby boomers should be actively utilized with the governmental support.
The purpose of this study was to identify some residential characteristics of Post-retirement and characteristics of the Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) favored by those baby-boomer generations soon retiring. A web-based online survey was conducted with middle-class baby-boomers living in the Seoul-Incheon-Gyengki capital area and the five metropolitan cities of Korea between 9th and 20th of February in 2017. A total 0f 507 responses were valid for statistical analysis. The findings obtained that they preferred living Urban outskirts after retirement; Desired area of post-retirement was differentiated depending on asset and educational attainment; 63.4% of respondents had no intentions to live with adult child; a combination of independent living and assisted living was the most preferred form of the CCRCs; Over 80% of respondents had intention to live in independent living, assisted living and nursing home; and Intention to live in assisted living and nursing home was differentiated depending on Intention to live with adult child. Among the four Community-linked types, the Hospital-based one was most popular. The University-based and Religion-based ones were then preferred by females than males. The results obtained here can be used for reflecting the residents needs when planning the CCRCs in Korea.
This study examined the psychological and social factors of middle-aged conglomerate executives in Korea for successful adaptation after their involuntary retirement. For this, in-depth interviews on 13 retired executives (male, average age 58.2) including changes over time and their assessment or interpretation on them were conducted, and the contents were analyzed in phenomenological methods. As a result, 'financial preparation' and 'spousal support' were predisposing factors of adaptation. The starting point of adaptation was 'acceptance of reality', which consisted of subfactors such as reevaluating the past life, acknowledging various changes and deviating from the past, accepting themselves as common retiree in the 50s, living with anxiety, and the need of proper time. Next, they made cognitive and emotional reevaluations and reevaluated the value of life, and reestablished 'psychological reconstruction' and 'ego identity' through new activities that they chose. Their retirement and adaptation processes after retirement are the conflicting process from their experience as a conglomerate executive that satisfied psychological and social capital and the consequent story on maladaptive coping style, as well as a narration in cognitive, emotional and behavioral perspectives to overcome such disharmony. Results of this study provides implications for corporations, nation and retirees on handling retirement.
