  • In this paper, we address the tracking problem caused by camera motion and rolling shutter effects associated with CMOS sensors in consumer handheld cameras, such as mobile cameras, digital cameras, and digital camcorders. A modified particle filtering method is proposed for simultaneously tracking objects and compensating for the effects of camera motion. The proposed method uses an elastic registration algorithm (ER) that considers the global affine motion as well as the brightness and contrast between images, assuming that camera motion results in an affine transform of the image between two successive frames. By assuming that the camera motion is modeled globally by an affine transform, only the global affine model instead of the local model was considered. Only the brightness parameter was used in intensity variation. The contrast parameters used in the original ER algorithm were ignored because the change in illumination is small enough between temporally adjacent frames. The proposed particle filtering consists of the following four steps: (i) prediction step, (ii) compensating prediction state error based on camera motion estimation, (iii) update step and (iv) re-sampling step. A larger number of particles are needed when camera motion generates a prediction state error of an object at the prediction step. The proposed method robustly tracks the object of interest by compensating for the prediction state error using the affine motion model estimated from ER. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional particle filter, and can track moving objects robustly in consumer handheld imaging devices.

  • This paper presents an adaptive control against uncertainties in tail-controlled STT (Skid-to-Turn) missiles. We derive an analytic uncertainty model from a parametric affine missile model developed by the authors. Based on this analytic model, an adaptive feedback linearizing control law accompanied by a sliding mode control law is proposed. We provide analyses of stability and output tracking performance of the overall adaptive missile system. The performance and validity of the proposed adaptive control scheme are demonstrated by simulation.

Abstract This paper presents an elegant method, an affine-model based approach, that can qualitatively estimate the information of camera motion. We define various types of camera motion by means of parameters of an affine-model. To get those parameters from images, we fit an affine-model to the field of instantaneous velocities, rather than raw images. We correlate consecutive images to get instantaneous velocities. The size filtering of the velocities are applied to remove noisy components, and the regression approach is employed for the fitting procedure. The fitted values of the parameters are examined to get the estimates of camera motion. The experimental results show that the suggested approach can yield the qualitative information of camera motion successfully.

  • This paper presents a new compression method (or ECG data using iterated contractive transformations. The method represents any range of ECG signal by piecewise self-afrine fractal Interpolation (PSAFI). The piecewise self-afrine rractal model is used where a discrete data set is viewed as being composed of contractive arfine transformation of pieces of itself. This algorithm was evaluated using MIT/BIH arrhythmia database. PSAFI is found to yield a relatively low reconstruction error for a given compression ratio than conventional direct compression methods. The compression ratio achieved was 883.9 bits per second (bps) - an average percent rms difference (AFRD) of 5.39 percent -with the original 12b ECG samples digitized at 400 Hz.

  • In this paper, we construct a new approach of affine scaling interior algorithm using the affine scaling conjugate gradient and Lanczos methods for bound constrained nonlinear optimization. We get the iterative direction by solving quadratic model via affine scaling conjugate gradient and Lanczos methods. By using the line search backtracking technique, we will find an acceptable trial step length along this direction which makes the iterate point strictly feasible and the objective function nonmonotonically decreasing. Global convergence and local superlinear convergence rate of the proposed algorithm are established under some reasonable conditions. Finally, we present some numerical results to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we develop an algorithm of soccer image sequences mosaicing using reverse affine transform. The continuous mosaic images of soccer ground field allows the user/viewer to view a “wide picture” of the player’s actions The first step of our algorithm is to automatic detection and tracking player, ball and some lines such as center circle, sideline, penalty line and so on. For this purpose, we use the ground field extraction algorithm using color information and player and line detection algorithm using four P-rules and two L-rules. The second step is Affine transform to map the points from image to model coordinate using predefined and pre-detected four points. General Affine transformation has many holes in target image. In order to delete these holes, we use reverse Affine transform. We tested our method in real image sequence and the experimental results are given.

  • The aim of this research is comparing the existing approximation models (e.g. Affine Transformation and Direct Linear Transformation) with Rational Function Model as a substitute of rigorous sensor model of linear array scanner, especially push-broom sensor. To do so, this research investigates the mathematical model of each approximation method. This is followed by the assessments of accuracy of transformation from object space to image space by using simulated data generated by collinearity equations which incorporate or depict the physical aspects of linear array sensor.

  • This paper develops a stability analysis and controller synthesis methodology for a continuous-time affine Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with parametric uncertainties. Affine T-S fuzzy system can be an advantage because it may be able to approximate nonlinear functions to high accuracy with fewer rules than the homogeneous T-S fuzzy systems with linear consequents only. The analysis is based on Lyapunov functions that are continuous and piecewise quadratic. The search for a piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function can be represented in terms of bilinear matrix inequalities (BMIs). A simulation example is given to illustrate the application of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes a stability condition in discrete-time affine Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with parametric uncertainties and then, introduces the design method of a fuzzy-model-based controller which guarantees the stability. The analysis is based on Lyapunov functions that are continuous and piecewise quadratic. The search for a piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function can be represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).
